The NWA Worlds Title picture has been shaping up quite nicely this month with the Briscos, the Villain Club, James Storm, and Eli Drake all posing plausible new challenges to Nick Aldis. Plus we still are owed a Cody Rhodes rematch at some point.

I do wonder what exactly led to the recent National Title and Womens Title changes. It felt as if plotlines were dropped. I'm a lot more excited about the new champions, but I do wonder what got us to this point.

Waiting to see more of the tag champs before I can judge them.

Although AEW's been getting a lot more attention, I will argue that the NWA has been the top promotion of the past year.

I have seen nothing at all of the NWA, or AEW apart from a terrible preshow, but would imagine you would have to work hard to convince people of that. I genuinely hope that is true and there are lots of options out there, but most peoples option of the NWA isn't good anymore.

Do you mean to say you weren't the least bit entertained by the pre-show battle royal at Double or Nothing?

You did well to work that out - just read back my early morning slightly drunk rambling! Yes that was what I meant. The whole pre-show did nothing for me at all.

NWA's been taking a worked documentary approach to their main content medium: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSHCTJS2P4Hvu_reLKtiT6g

Their "10 Pounds of Gold" series has been detailing the return to prominence of the Worlds Championship as told through 15 minute YouTube videos each week or so.

There's no NWA TV show, so for the most part the Worlds Champion shows up to defend the title on Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, Ring of Honor, AEW, House of Hardcore, or various indie shows across the globe.

The opening storyarc telling Tim Storm's story got me hooked. (Storm was the Worlds champion at the time Billy Corgan bought the NWA back in 2017. Think of a cross between Ric Flair and a 52 year old school teacher who wrestles part time.)

This week's episode 56 ("Let Met Talk To You" - approx. 10 minutes) was a sit down interview style promo by new signee Eli Drake. Intermixed with it was footage from the dawn of his career, his training days, and his time in Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. This included clips of his then manager Paul Bearer, Scrap Iron Adam Pierce during his title run, and his former partner a much smaller looking Brian Cage. Made a compelling case that Drake's been honing his skills for a very long time, earning his place at the top of the game today.

July 18! Alright, I find that Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard Beat Demolition in a 2/3 Falls match for the WWF Tag Team Belts in 1989. I like every part of that sentence except "Demolition." Still, Arn and Tully!
