As a former public-access level critic of all things Trekker, I was really excited for the debut of Seth Macfarlane's latest project. Given his past work on his animated shows, I definitely felt like he knew his source material and would pay a proper respect to it with his new series. For the opener, at least, I wasn't let down! There were a few typical Macfarlane-level bathroom humor moments just to remind you he was writing, but he didn't go completely overboard with it, and what he DID bring was a nice way to remind us how sanitized the Roddenberry Original Series could be some times. A lot of the typical tropes were present, but with enough twists to keep me entertained. I'm on board!
This episode will replay on FOX on Tuesday and is probably streaming somewhere even as I type this.
I gave this a chance. Really, I did. I found it to be horrible. Didn't laugh once - not sure if I was supposed to. Seems very formulaic. I love Macfarlane to death, but I have no idea what he was trying to accomplish with this show. It's not funny enough to be a comedy, and the sci-fi content isn't near quality enough to be even a Star Trek ripoff. Always like Victor Garber, though.
I thought it was a decent opener. I am not a huge fan of doing everything in one episode. It set up a nice premise for the show of a bit of drama in with some light comedy. Seth not doing a ton of Family Guy jokes was a good idea. He could have turned it into South Park in space, but he has a to of respect for Star Trek and it showed. I hope it doesn't turn into another interesting Fox show that gets killed early.
Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir. Seth wanted to make a relatively straightforward Trek show with a bit of his humor and a bit of drama, not forcing either.
Unsurprising that critics and mouth breathing Family Guy diehards alike had no idea what to make of it.
Solid pilot. Trailer spoiled most of the laughs, but I'm looking forward to seeing more.
