The X-Files are back and its not bad. I am not sure what people were expecting with the first episode, but some retread needs to be done. Granted the opening with old pictures being thrown down got kinda old. A young Fox Mulder dressed up as Spock was great though plus Flukeman.

Mulder and Scully are brought in by Skinner to work with Right Wingnut Ted O'Malley. Ted thinks Bill O'Reilly is an idiot and makes no bones about making cash off of conspiracy nuts. Still, people get in contact with him like Spetha. Spetha was interviewed by Mulder when she was a child about her first abduction. Why Mulder never followed up or why she wants to contact him know while not fully trusting her is sorta weird. I guess the argument could be made Ted decided to bring Fox in when Spetha said his name. Dana is skeptcial and even Fox is more skeptical. Spetha says she has alien DNA and Dana decides to test it.

Ted again knowing people shows Mulder an AR. Alien Replicated vehicle made by some scientist. It runs on zero point energy and has a warp device that allows it cloak. The look on Mulder's face when he touches it, totally makes the episode. Mulder decides to talk to Spetha again and we find out that it wasn't aliens taking her babies, it was men. The government in particular.

At this point, I have to discuss the the 1947 flashback. The flashback is about a crashed saucer that a young doctor is lead to by a man in black. An alien crawls out of the saucer and is shot dead by the military. The doctor takes the alien and is about ready to give it a proper burial when we see him later experiment on it. Mulder, we think, meets the doctor as an older man who is now our Deep Throat or X or Well Manicured Man of this run. He tells Mulder is not really that close and once he has pieced it together, he will give him the truth.

Mulder and Scully discuss the whole crux of their relationship. Mulder goes crusading on this one truth that could save the world as well as himself and Dana will have to sew him back together after he finds out the truth is either wrong, dead or in their child they at least mention in this episode. After a pretty long and crazy kinda on point speech about this shadow government and their plan by Mulder and Ted, Dana screeches everything to a halt when she says Spetha has no Alien DNA. O'Malley is discredited by Spetha in the press, the government blows up the AR and of course the bad guys win, because its the X-Files.

Mulder and Scully have one last meeting where Dana says my bad, Spetha had Alien DNA. How does she know, because she ran it against her own DNA and possibly their son's DNA. Skinner calls them back to work. A UFO tries to kill or does kill Septha at one point. In a final scene, we see a very cancer ridden, Cigarette Smoking Man tell someone the X-Files is open and shit is about to get real.

I liked it. I am not sure what the bitching is about on this one. I could watch David smug his way through this while Gillian rolls her eyes. That is what made the show great. Yes, there is some bad special effects like the UFO attacking the car at the end. Yet, there is some great stuff like showing UFOS in old time footage around the White House or in the mountains where the first government case started.

Granted, its hard to swallow Mulder and Scully as skeptics. Especially all the stuff Scully went through in season eight. Yet, I think part of the skepticism is them thinking O'Mally is bullshitting them which is fine. The old man, lets call him, Roswell Steve from now on, is also cringe worthy. He wants to tell his story before he dies, but Mulder has to complete these ten quests to get it? Come on, Man. Still, its good stuff and if you didn't like this one, we get the monsters of the week back which were always fun.

Can CRZ go back into the archives and find the X-Files logo?

I switched after the RR was over and caught it as Mulder was chatting with Roswell Steve. I dug it. Yeah, the car blowing up was cheesy, but, I'm cool with that. Cigarette Smoking Man is back, and that is all that matters. Also, another new episode tonight? I will be switching back and forth with Raw cuz something big is supposed to happen.

I went back and checked...it doesn't look like we had one! I'll have to work on that.

This was my first episode ever and I only happened to catch it because I fell asleep some time near the end of the game and woke up as it was starting. I liked what I saw and didn't feel lost despite never having seen much of the original show... so I'm in for six easily.

I missed the first episode (because I am old and have to get up early in the mornings), but I did catch episode 2 without watching episode 1. My wife thought it was too gross what with the letter opener into the brain part, but my daughter dug it.

Episode 2 was a nice throwback to the old X-Files. Mulder and Scully are back in FBI wear. We get the basement office as well as Skinner bitching at them while secretly helping them. There is even a dark room light by flashlights with weird shit on the wall. Good comfortable stuff. Even the monster of the week being the alien hybrid twins and the mystery around them was good. I am glad they are keeping the government testing on humans storyline. No Roswell Steve though.

What was not comfortable was the William storyline with the dream sequences. Holy Shit, that was heartbreaking. The Scully scenes were good, but the Mulder one where William is being taken like a Samantha was crushing. Even the scene of them watching 2001 and quoting Kennedy going to the moon was harsh. For long time X-Files fans that had to be one of the most devastating scenes since the Lone Gunmen bit it.

I thought last night's episode was quite good. Funny, sarcastic Mulder is great.

One moment they break your heart and the next they make you laugh out loud. Rhys Darby was fantastic and I like Kumala, the giant X-File nerd who helped get this back got a nice role. The whole Scully part of the story was great.

What do people think of the new Mulder and Scully? I thought it was a pretty decent episode, but am I kind of glad it's only a six episode deal.

After seeing Mulder face off against CSM in the promo, I want more. After seeing the ratings, I am sure there will be more.

So, the finale. We get the picture thing from the first episode with cameos by Well Manicure Man, Krycheck and most of the Syndicate. Which is fine since CSM has gone full Super-Villain. He has helped unleashed a virus that will kill anyone without Alien DNA, not to mention the mask hiding a deformed face. Every Super-Villain has to have a mangled face. Scully, who has Alien DNA thanks to her abduction, races against the clock with Einstein and Miller to find Mulder and save the human race. Does she win, we don't know, because as she is about to cure Miller, the Triangle Spaceship appears above the DC freeway in front all to see.

Big news in this one is Agent Reyes is a traitor. Sorta. She has helped CSM with this plan in exchange for her to receive the Alien DNA. Now, she tells Scully what is going on and how she is safe. So, not a full blown traitor, but you get the feeling she could have killed CSM to at least delay this. Oh yea after these ratings, there will be a next season. The directing was a bit off at times with the Ted O'Malley stuff and the fish eye flashback of Reyes meeting CSM.

The things they can play around with for season 11 is now everyone needs the Alien DNA to live. What the ramifications of that can be fun to see. The quest to find William is now more important than ever since its the only way to save Mulder. Why the Aliens decide now to show up is a massive question. I do think Miller and Einstein are set for an own adventure next year which is fun, but it didn't really work for Doggett and Reyes in Season Nine. Still, if David and Gillian are back who cares.

I kind of took it as Miller and Einstein are the back-up plan to continue the series if Duchovny and Anderson don't feel like doing anymore episodes.

Yes, that's where I am, too. If Anderson/Duchovny don't want to or get too expensive, here's your backup plan.

I finally finished these and I have to say that the Lizard Man episode was probably my favorite, but hi always liked the offbeat episodes more than the global conspiracy episodes. I like the big conspiracy as a back drop, but when it's the focus point it feels like Lost where you know they can never really pay off the build plus this felt rushed, which it was but still.

Well, having seen the "deluxe" edition, we now know that these character's names are all coincidental - I don't think we picked off "C.S. Lewis" (unless Mark was being too clever for me to notice)
