Alright everybody, let's get straight to it. We start the show with a WWE.com exclusive: GM Regal responds to Kevin Owens' allegations of misconduct, and his request for a ladder match. Regal rightly says that if he just capitulates, then he's giving KO evidence that he was right. However, he ran the idea past Finn Balor, and since Finn was game, they're going to do the ladder match at Takeover.

Our first match of the night is Solomon Crowe against "Perfect 10" Tye Dillinger. Tye's been working this gimmick on house shows for a while now, but this is the first TV appearance for it. It's actually kind of a lazy, generic " better than you" gimmick, and I'm not in love with him playing it straight. Anyhoo, the match itself is alright. They start off with some hold/counter-hold stuff, then move into a series of running dodges that ends with Crowe on top. Eventually, Dillinger turns it around, and lays in a pretty neat underarm chinlock thing for a rest hold. Crowe gets loose, and uses a bunch of hard shots and clotheslines to go on offense, until Dillinger dumps him outside. Crowe rolls back in, but takes a rolling knee to the temple for his trouble, and that's enough to give the Perfect 10 the win.
Match Rating: Really, More Like A Six. Seven, Tops.

The Hype Bros. have a bit outside the building. Mojo wants to talk about what he was doing in da club last night, but Ryder's pretty standoffish. Like, suspiciously so. At this point, I think Mojo Rawley may only exist so that tag team partners can turn on him.

Baron Corbin's out and blah blah blah.
Match Rating: Blah Blah Blah.
After, some stuff almost happens. He gets on the mic and says nothing of worth, then beats up another jobber. Then, wait, really? Okay. Then Samoa Joe of all people comes out to throw a challenge at him. Corbin awkwardly refuses to get into it tonight, but they wind up coming to blows anyways. Corbin fails to land the End of Days, but Joe responds with a Kokina Clutch to choke this fool out.

Very quick vignette reveals that Bull is tough again now.

Tyler Breeze has some words regarding his upcoming match with Liger, but that's not important. What's important is that he definitely implies that he was the one who took out Hideo Itami. It all makes perfect sense, too, as they had a long-standing blood feud before it happened, and Breeze was going to be fighting Itami and Balor that night for the #1 contendership. Mystery solved, I think.

Marcus Louis! Yay! The monster man is just out to get squashed by Finn Balor in a tune-up match, but that's okay; I just like seeing this guy around. For those of you keeping track, Marcus is actually wearing black slacks and dress shoes as ring gear, just like another Big Monster that you may be familiar with. If they're not just going to replace Kane with this guy, I'd like to see him on RAW as Kane's new intern. Anyhoo, this match is the squash you think it is. Marcus gets in a very nice urinage, but after that it's the Slingblade, the knockback dropkick, and the Coup de Grace.
Match Rating: Thanks For Coming Out Marcus.
After the match, Balor gets immediately jumped by Kevin Owens. He goes for the Apron Bomb, but Balor's able to avoid that fate. He gets the advantage on KO, and even lands a knockback dropkick against the guardrail. He rolls KO into the ring, and that's a mistake. KO's ready, and one Pop-up Powerbomb later, he's the only one standing tall. A signature dickish taunt takes us out of this segment.

The Vaudvillains are backstage to let us know they have a plan for neutralizing Alexa Bliss at Takeover. Bliss, however, is kind of a bitch, so she walks in to slap the two of them around some more. I genuinely want to see her get her comeuppance at Takeover.

We get the same Apollo Crews package from last week. I wonder who he'll kill at Takeover. Maybe Solomon Crowe? I'm pretty sure he's the new CJ Parker.

By the way, CJ Parker is retiring from wrestling, which is kind of sad. His last match is going to be at the end of the month in Enfield, CT. If that's your neck of the woods, you should check it out.

This seems like as good a time as any to run down the card for Takeover: Brooklyn. We've got the Apollo Crews match, Breeze vs. Liger, Joe vs. Corbin has been added, the Vaudvillains against Blake and Murphy, the title match with Balor and Owens, and finally Banks defending against the winner of the upcoming match. Looks like a good card.

Our main event is Bayley against Becky Lynch for the #1 contendership to the Women's championship. Sasha Banks joins us for commentary, which I kind of hate because it means Corey Graves spends the whole time fawning over her instead of calling the match. Do your job, Graves! Anyhoo, this match starts with full main-event style, with both women jockeying for position. They try mixing it up with some running spots, which ends with a pair of armdrags and an elbow that ultimately gives Bayley the early advantage. That last right up until Becky Lynch nails a terrific suplex. I'm not actually sure what you'd call it; maybe a spinning hammerlock suplex? It was cool. That goes right into Lynch working the arm to set up her armbar. No real rest holds here, though. Lynch opts for a series of arm wringers and arm drags, just continuously punishing Bayley's arm. There's even a point where she locks in a hammerlock, and then just throws Bayley against the ropes. Bayley tries to power back into position, but nothing seems to be working. Finally, Lynch goes for a pumphandle slam, but Bayley gets loose and moves into a series of quick covers trying to get a flash pin. Lynch ends that by locking the pumphandle back in, but turning that around into a suplex. She goes for her triple legdrop, but only hits the first two. On the third, Bayley slides out of the way, and counters with a running elbow strike to the back of the head. Bayley loads Lynch up for the top rope hurricanrana, but Lynch powers out of that fate. Thwarted, Bayley instead grabs Lynch off the turnbuckle and drops her with a massive snap powerslam. She's looking good, but it only takes an instant for a match to change, and Lynch locks in her armbar (which I had forgotten was named the Disarmer)! Bayley's right by the ropes as luck would have it, so this match isn't over yet. Bayley gets to her feet and lays in a very nice snap suplex, and looks for the Belly-to-Bayley (my recap, my call). Lynch maneuvers around, and looks to lay in the Disarmer again, but this time Bayley gets the better of her, scoops her up, and gets the win with a schoolboy pin!
Match Rating: Fantastic, And I Will Miss Becky Lynch In NXT.

No surprise on that win, if we're being honest. Bayley and Banks do a staredown to end the show, and I wonder what they're going to pull out at Takeover to try and outshine a ladder match in the main event. Not sure what's on tap for next week, as we still have two shows before Takeover and the card is pretty well set now.

Loved the womens match and Sasha on commentary. I'm glad Bayley is finally getting her shot, and I have a good feeling that Takeover is going to be that show where they put the women on last.

Perfect 10 might grow on me, but it's not there yet. Still miles more interesting than Solomon Crowe is at this point.

I think Solomon Crowes hacker gimmick had potential but neither creative or the performer himself seem to have any idea what to do with it and just reverted to "slap the lightbar" on the side of the ring.

I guess he's just some kind of chaotic "anarchist" now or something.

I'm real interested to see what Joe can do with Corbin. I haven't been overly impressed with Joe the last couple of months, but he hasn't had much reason to kick up to those next couple of levels. It will be interesting to see if Corbin has another gear too.

Corey Graves getting all pissy with the other two announcers at every Sasha slight was hilarious. He came off as a total fanboy, and I know that is the opposite of what he is going for.

The commentary during the Balor match was awful. I know they are trying to get other stuff over, but don't do it during your champion's match.

NXT's weekly show is stuck in a rut. You know where you are going to find the good stuff, but the rest is awfully generic or just not going anywhere. I'd like to see some more new faces.

I'm confused as to why they're doing the next set of tapings tonight. That means one regular episode and three episodes of dancing around the Takeover results. I know they did something similar with Beast in the East, but that was only one match.

Everything is awesome.

This is what you get when people get spoiled by all the indy darlings. It's a developmental league, it's supposed to be for evaluating talent and developing a presence.

Well, that goes without saying, but is also not what I am getting at. Now that you mention it though I'm not noticing a whole lot of development happening outside of the Women's Division either.

The NXT I am seeing now feels a lot more like the main show where guys aren't really allowed to try different things or show personality. Instead we get Create a Wrestler model A, Create a Wrestler Big Guy model B. The whole thing is starting to feel stiff and contained, and while having one central vision might seem to make sense you are a lot more likely to miss out on the next Young Bucks, Dalton Castle or EC3. You'll end up with a pretty good wrestler, but will miss out on 50% of what makes them great and that's just letting them be who they are. If NXT were truly a developmental division I'd like to see them try and fail more often instead of just playing it safe and developing guys to fill out the bottom of their roster.

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
Why turn Bull into an amusing goof if you're just going to undo it almost immediately? I don't mind either step in direction but it feels pretty herky jerky and rushed.

Tye Dillenger has been in development hell for a VERY long time. I first heard of him when Colt Cabana was still in developmental. I was surprised to hear he was fired and then re-hired. It's awesome to see he finally found his "Yes/What?" gimmick and it's catching on fast. Good on him man, dude never gave up and this may actually land him on the main shows with some momentum.

It's impossible for me to give sympathy for CJ Parker retiring from the business in comparison. Dude got his foot in the door and his face on TV with a gimmick giving him heat and fucked off. Oh well, may he find his passion on a new path in life..... By the by Called it (The W)
All it takes is to be ugly and bald and you are deemed a "Monster" in WWE now? At least Kane had a mask and a weave to be seen as intimidating back in the day.

Technically the Bayley Road to Hug-demption story isn't rushed seeing as her story started with Charlotte betraying her to join with Sasha in the old BFF stable. I'm a historian today, thanks wiki!

The CJP thing is now believed to be him retiring the character, but not retiring from wrestling.

I feel Dillinger's gimmick isn't something that will translate well to the main roster. He's supposed to be a heel, right?
A small "Indy" crowd like NXT will still chant 10 for him. A big arena will boo him because "he's the bad guy"

I don't agree with the feeling they're not trying new things.
They (management) seem smart enough though to not throw everything new to the wall at the same time.
Now that the Vaudevillains, Enzo/Cas and team BAMF (is that their name?) are established, they're starting to give a bit more momentum to Wilder/Dawson and Jordan/Gable. And maybe the Hype Bros. It seems every time a tag team leaves (Ascension, Lucha Dragons) they push a new one up the card.

Also, I feel like they're biding time in the singles division because of the injuries there (Zayn, Itami) and thus keep going back to Owens and Balor, Joe vs anyone, Breeze vs who's left. There's plenty talent left in the NXT pool to freshen things up again sooner than later, but for now they're riding high on a small group that knows how to deliver.
Crews should bring in something fun & fresh.

Also how have Big Cass and Enzo not been confirmed to be doing anything in Brooklyn?

I didn't know this until just recently, but he also had a very brief run in the WWE version of ECW as Gavin Spears, where he did nothing of note. At least Damien Sandow got a PPV tag title shot as Idol Stevens.
