Oh no. I just saw him at a show this winter and he looked and sounded great. He seemed genuinely touched by the reaction he got as well. Piper was one of my first favorites as a boy. RIP Hot Rod.

Well crap. And not that it's hugely important, but it'll seem odd not to have Hogan as part of the remembrances.

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I'm all outta bubblegum."

I first watched Roddy Piper when he was with WCW, as I wasn't a wrestling fan until 1997. Even though he was way past his prime at that point, I loved him. He was crazy-awesome, emphasis on crazy, even though he was terrible at wrestling at that age. (Granted, the man had an artificial hip, and was wrestling against guys like Hogan, so).

I can't believe we lost him and Dusty Rhodes within two months of each other. What a cruel year this has been.

Damn, man.

I just listened to him a few weeks ago on the Adam Carolla Show podcast and he was as great as ever. I was looking forward to him coming back on. I could listen to his stories all day man.

RIP Hot Rod.

I hate this. I also hate that it takes something like this to happen to remind myself that I don't visit here enough.

I hope the rule of threes isn't in effect.

He was my first anti-hero in wrestling. The Wrestlemania III build is my favorite build to a Mania. Piper coming back to destroy the floral shop is still one of my top wrestling moments. He did favorite one of my tweets I sent him which as close to meeting him as I have come. I was able to see him live during the Nexus angle where he gave one of the best promos of all time about a belt he would never have. This is going to be a tough one.

I loved CM Punk, Savage, the Rock, Eddy. But damn if Roddy wasn't my true favorite of all time. He lit up my screen and I couldn't get over the mystique. This one hurts.

Roddy - I saw him before the WWF with UFW ad when he came to WWF I was excited. He rarely disappointed.

the last video I can find of him is on TMZ defending and condemning Hulk.

My very first house show was Roddy Piper Vs. Jimmy Snuka in the Los Angeles Olympic Auditorium. And because it was my favorite song on the album:

Wrestlemania , Rock n Wrestling, and Hulk Hogan becoming Hulk Hogan isn't possible without Piper being the heel to work against.

RIP Roddy Piper.

Somebody post the videos from the NWA days when he was doing great promos about Greg Valentine and the upcoming dog collar match. That's what made me a fan of his to begin with.

This is just saddening. I didn't know what to say after dusty, and same here. It's like if the NBA lost Jerry West(Dusty) and Charles Barkley(Piper) in a two month period.

In my mind the greatest heel of all time. Flair is close, but still second.

He was the absolute perfect foil for Hogan in the mid-80's...a shame he never got a run with the world title.

One of my favorite wrestling memories is being in attendance when he won the Intercontinental title at the 1992 Royal Rumble. Watching it back still gives me goosebumps.

RIP Roddy.

Saddened to say the least. I just got to work with him in California on his new project "Classic Wrestling Revolution". He was a really nice guy to all of us and I got to spend a little personal time chatting, a real class act all around.

I feel like I got into wrestling just after Piper's prime, yet he still had two great memories....

* the entire stretch from the 1992 Royal Rumble to Wrestlemania 8. Piper wins the IC title and is so obviously proud about it, his great stint in the Rumble against Flair and then his great match with Bret Hart where he put Bret over clean (a very rare job for the Hot Rod) in one of the true underrated classics in Mania history.

* Piper during his later "legend" years had far more rambling promos than he had classics, but every once in a while he delivered an all-timer that made you remember why he was a legendary mic worker. Two examples: his promo against Jericho in the leadup to Wrestlemania 25, and his promo imploring Cena to not hand the world title to Wade Barrett (as it would insult the title and insult all the stars like him who were never able to capture the world championship) in the lead-up to Survivor Series 2010.

After over 13 years and 6800 posts, was finally named W of the Day on 3/21/2015. It's now all worth it!

Wow. I just teared up, couldn't help myself.
Piper was always a favorite, and the first anti-hero that I couldn't help but love.
I recall being at his Hall of Fame induction, the same year Hogan went in and I was just so much more stoked to see him go in than Hogan. I didn't even realize up until that moment how much I liked him I think.

So many crazy moments, so many classics. The guy could talk and talk and talk. Sure he was often rambling but it all worked with his character.
And I always loved that cocky look of his. He knew he had us in the palm of his hands and he enjoyed it while still being in character. Fuck I'm gonna miss Hot Rod.

R.I.P.

Edge isn't main event material. Dude has next to no mic skills. His matches are more than predictable. If anyone around deserves a run, it's Angle.
