Wait, which KotR are you talking about? For all intents and purposes, KotR '96 was the most brilliantly booked show ever.

Could someone actually point out some folks who are being misbooked these days?

I will say the guy I wish I could see more of personally is Damien Sandow. I don't think the WWE is going out of their way to bury the guy or diminish him in any way; I'd also have to wager he has a bit of job security seeing as how his fellow alumni is HHH. I just think that he hasn't broken out yet as something the fans refuse to ignore.

HHH's self-aware irony in shilling the network is straight out of the 1990s. Granted, for a WWE gimmick that may be relatively fresh, but as a marketing strategy targeted at the Cenation, probably suboptimal.

If you take out all of the $9.99 references and keep RAW solely on the Beat the Clock, Reigns/Orton and Steph/Brie build, you'd have a really good two-hour RAW.
As usual, right?

Not quite the same point, and maybe this is just me, but it feels like the layout of Raw is a lot more transparent now that it's three hours. The big top-of-the-hour anchor segments are (even) more predictable, and the filler (which since there's an extra hour to fill is already more drawn-out, which often means tedious) is more obviously filler. When you know what's coming, it's harder to maintain the illusion that anything can happen in the World Wrestling Federation. At least on Mondays. I find it hard to watch unless I'm invested in the people trying to get over. Maybe that's the genius of NXT.

Things were looking pretty damn good show wise six months ago when The Network was launched, now look where we are. So many broken and directionless characters, guys and storylines spinning their wheels everywhere. It can be fixed, but it's hard to believe they drove themselves this far into the ditch (I also don't think they know how to fix it, it is probably going to take more dumb luck.)

I am actually surprised they haven't done a harder sell on me yet, the guy who still hasn't reupped his subscription.

At least it is almost football season.

Zach Ryder. The money was printing money for them and they gave him one of the worst six months I have seen in a wrestlers career that wasn't fired after it. Even Jericho thought WWE was doing it intentionally.

YES. I got the email that my sub rubs out in a month and I turned auto renewal off, and all I could think is how I need to wait as long enough as possible to see what crazy things WWE does to try get me to renew. I don't want WWE Shop credit, I want JBL to send me a personal Tout begging me to reconsider, I want a Best of Velocity Blu Ray, and I want a promise they won't screw up Kalisto. I'm willing to let it expire for a few days just to see what happens.

Cesaro. He won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and since then every time it starts to look like he's getting a push, they start jobbing him out left and right. To say nothing of last week's "Hey Paul, I just broke up with you but I'm gonna come out and defend your honor for no reason."

Booking a contract signing as a 'main event' is something they've done many times before (and it never really works), but for a third-tier match nobody cares about, just because it's the boss' daughter? Horrible booking and I'd like to see just how far their ratings plummeted on the overrun.

Zack Ryder, as lotjx pointed out. All because he got himself over instead of waiting for 'Creative' to try and push him.

Imagining that anyone gives a flying fuck about Fandango/Diego, much less three matches in as many shows.

That enough examples of booking incompetence for you? Those are just the ones that come immediately to mind. I'm sure I can think of a few more if I try.

strong win for my man Dolph Ziggler oh god, it's gotten that bad for Cesaro. You have to figure the three most exciting things coming out of the world-acclaimed post-Mania Raw were Daniel Bryan, the Shield, and Cesaro. Just four months later, all we've got is groovin' Dean Ambrose. Thank god for him.

WAIT! I HAVE A BRAIN IDEA. Cesaro puts on the mask and becomes the new demon Kane.

Stephanie's pedigrees were pretty sweet. I like the feud but it was amazing arrogance to make that the main event again after it tanked last week's rating, only to see the same thing happen again. It's that kind of cognitive dissonance in a nutshell that leads to, well, everything we get frustrated by.

I would pay big Network subscripts if they built up to Fandango vs. all his many tormentors in a Doomsday Cage match, where Fandango finally defeats The Alliance to End ChaChaLaLaMania.

This is where I am, too. I'm almost ready to give up September at this point to see what it might get me. I mean, I LIKE watching old Saturday Night's Main Events, but at this point I could easily give it up for a month (or more) just to "send a message" (which won't be received, or understood, unless maybe they'd send me a questionnaire or something).

Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

    Hour one: 4.08 million
    Hour two: 4.19 milion
    Hour three: 3.88 million

You could also make the argument that bating and switching the Rollins/Van Dam match that they had hyped for the better part of three hours might have left a few fans sour, too.

I'm really curious what the numbers were on the overrun, since nobody who had anything else to watch was going to stick around for 5 minutes of Stephanie putting the Pedigree on Bree Bella. If they wanted to keep viewers in the overrun, they should have had Rollins/Slater as the main event and done the Bella stuff somewhere earlier in the night. Like I said, having that as the overrun made it *real* easy for me to decide to switch over to Stewart.

Funny to see Brie Bella list all the wrestlers that the Authority screwed over and the crowd chants CM Punk. Having seen Punk in San Diego for the Nerdist live podcast, he looks well rested and happy to be retired. There were a couple of opportunities for him to talk shit about TripleH or anyone from WWE but he did not burn any bridges.

I was so annoyed by that special. First, they edit out all the fun parts of the opening interview segment, then they pipe in their fake crowd noises at the end of Undertaker/Lesnar, so you get shots of people in stunned silence accompanied by the audio of raucous booing.

You're right. My memory failed me there. It certainly *seems* like a hog pen match should be a punishment for something.

But HHH had originally been booked to win King of the Ring '96 before the Madison Square Garden incident. Thanks to him getting all of the punishment for that night (since Michaels was champion and Hall & Nash were gone), Steve Austin was given the spot instead, popped off the Austin 3:16 line and became one of the three biggest names in the history of the business. In fact, maybe that's it... maybe punishing people isn't about the punishment at all. Maybe they're hoping that whoever accidentally gets pushed as a result will become the next Stone Cold.

As has already been mentioned, Cesaro is the biggest misfire right now.

I'd also say Bray Wyatt is being mishandled. He went from being super hot at The Royal Rumble, beating the fan favorite Daniel Bryan, then defeating The Shield at the following PPV and then getting the crowd to sing children's hymnals to being made to look like an idiot by losing to John Cena at Wrestlemania, barely beating Cena at Extreme Rules because of his henchmen, then being punked out again at Payback. He had a decent showing at Money in the Bank but then lost to Jericho at Battleground. Sure, he'll probably win at SummerSlam, but unless it's a decisive domination, his steam has dissipated.

Big E started to get some footing, then they just sort of forgot about him. Cody Rhodes has been just on the verge of greatness on multiple occasions, then they yank the rug out from under him. Fandango got a surprising underdog victory at Wrestlemania 29, got the crowd into his theme song, then they did nothing with him and now he's a comedy act.

It would be one thing if they gave someone a legitimate push and it failed, so they dialed it back a bit, but they seem to be operating under the assumption that if someone isn't a megasuccess immediately, then they're destined for failure and don't give characters time to build momentum.

Where are the Nation of Domination v2.0? Since their formation on Raw a couple of weeks ago, we haven't heard a single word from them (I don't watch Smackdown, so I might've missed something there). I think they were shown watching the Usos last week but this week there were totally MIA.

Y'know what would help WWE Network numbers? Using the two other hour long Network exclusive shows to primarily promote the midcard and not use them as secondary RAW recap show. Anyone who watches Main Event and Superstars knows they spend half of those shows playing a full recap of the week's Raw Main event match/segment as well as any other major story segments. They take up about 15 to 30 minutes of the show. Why oh why would they use up this time to show use in entirety things we've just saw on the top WWE show of the week? The show should be used only to promote those who don't get time to be on overcrowded RAW, the PPV and Smackdown.

Anything involving any major story should be lightly mentioned during match commentary or edited into minute long vignettes. With the way the production team plays long replays of segments that happened on the same show sometimes several times in the same show, recaps of RAW on Smackdown, recaps of events from several weeks ago shown over and over again sometimes a month later, plus the constant reminder of the price of The Network am I the only one who believes the minds behind this company thinks the majority of this company fans have the attention span of fruit flys?

Spot on. What the WWE (and wrestling as a whole) doesn't seem to understand is that exclusivity creates demand. Example, amongst people who go to clubs, the more exclusive the club the more people want to get in. When the nWo was white hot, they had three members and there was rampant speculation about who the fourth member was. It made the fans feel like they were in on something, especially with the use of slang and hand signs. They lost their mystique as the roster ballooned to the point that fans were offended by who was joining because those members weren't cool enough to be nWo, but somehow they were in. Then the whole thing fell apart. What WWE should do is stop recapping their own program on other programs and, especially, on the same program. You missed what happened earlier? Tough shit, you should've been watching. When the viewer starts to feel that they can't miss one minute of Raw because they might miss something and there are no recaps, the numbers will grow. That and make the product good again.

Since I'm already in fantasy land, here's another. Blow the whole thing up, bring out all of the wrestlers, strip them of their gimmicks/characters, and ask them who they are (using Rock and SCSA logic that the most successful characters are extensions of the performers personality). Go with whatever the wrestlers say and let the fans decide who they push. If certain guys want to keep their created gimmick, that's fine too. But I think we would have one hell of a more compelling product in the end. That and hold the writers to a high standard of logic and continuity.

This might be too close to a brand split, but I wonder if a modified system of soccer's relegation might be feasible. You want to play with the big boys on Raw and Smackdown? Prove your worth on Main Event and Superstars. Once every so often -- maybe every quarter -- you can plug special episodes where wrestlers get the chance to move up to the big show. And maybe you can have midcard feuds over being able to send someone down to the lower shows and he has to work his way back up. Might keep things somewhat fresher.

Thing is, that's basically already what they're doing on NXT. They do a great job of getting over the fact that guys who are on the main roster are better, and that really the only guy on the roster who's equal to a RAW guy is the champion. The current story with Kidd and Gabriel as guys who couldn't cut it on the main roster and got bumped down and are deeply resentful is a byproduct of this overall philosophy. It's actually really, really good.

I've been saying this for years, and they are gently edging closer to it with stuff on the app, even though 3/4 of the time they still replay those clips on tv anyway. This is especially galling, because you'd cut about 30-45 minutes of each show if you got rid of the recaps, leaving time for more matches/promos/guys/etc.
