As my following list has crept up and up, I decided I'd embark on a project to document EVERY follower I'm following once I hit the 500 mark. I did that last Wednesday when I found that everybody except for one guy on the Timberwolves Summer League roster was on Twitter and followed all of them.

Consider it an extended, "me only" version of this old thread (The W) (which is also quite amusing and contains SPOILERS for this thread)

My goals with this project:

1. Make you suffer through a giant list
2. But maybe you'll find somebody interesting to follow
3. Or follow me again, why not
4. Hopefully *I* will find some people to prune out of my timeline so it becomes a little more manageable and/or full of stuff I actually enjoy reading instead of some of the tortuous slog I really shouldn't be

I joined Twitter in September 2007, according to my profile page (twitter.com). (Trivia: @CRZ had already been taken, but I managed to pull a "trademark" claim after it fell inactive - that probably wouldn't work in 2014, but it did back in 2009!) Before I DID snag @CRZ, I wasn't too active myself, so I have a feeling these early accounts will represent much of my first few years on Twitter.

I think I'm going to do ten at a time, so we'll see over 50 groups by the time this is done. You have been warned!

I am also embedding their latest tweet (unless it's a retweet, in which case I'll go back and find their latest non-retweet) which may give you an indication of what they NORMALLY tweet, or may not, or may be amusing, or may not. It's all left to chance!

LET'S GO

Naturally, the first person I followed was...

...my wife! She joined about two months after I did. Her timeline consists almost exclusively of retweets of other people with the occasional observation about the Timberwolves. (This photo was taken last week after an open scrimmage with the Summer League roster and season ticket holder availability with themwhere we had a delightful chat with Mr. Shved and I got lots of autographs of people I'll never see in the Association... but may follow on Twitter forever.)

I think Cubs was probably the earliest adopter out of the people I knew online. Most of his Twitter activity ends up on another account but this is the one he uses for RAW and to heckle mutual acquaintances. The old thread says I followed HIM first (and Kim sixth) so I wonder if I ever "reorganized" my list back in the day. (Also, my ENTIRE list back then was 21 people - yowza)

We rigged our newsfeed to autopost to Twitter in April 2008 (The W) but I don't totally remember if we snagged the account months before or not. (Also, didn't we have some hilarious opinions we of Twitter back then?)

A former coworker, now in New York doing something terribly important - doesn't tweet much

Current coworker - usually tweets wonderful photos of his cabin

Old online acquaintance, now superstar at (most recently) Comic Book Resources - still occasionally slums it over here. Also the only reason I use the #yogurtoftheday hashtag on my yogurt tweets

Famous Canadian, moderator here. We have touched. Retweets a lot of animal accounts for some reason

Old friend from Modesto - doesn't tweet too much (and gave up on me after an early RAW livetweeting session) and seems to do most of his posting on Facebook - I think he's a volunteer photographer for the local roller derby team for...whichever Oregon area he landed in

They pays the bills. Lots of retweets of my coworkers. Criminally underused account, but after seeing other brands' "social" attempts, too few is almost always preferable to way too many. I try not to do a lot of (or any) work stuff through my own account, but very occasionally I'll use it to publicize really, really important stuff.

The first "artist" (sorry Kim) I followed way back when...I think they (or whichever one of them used this account) mostly gave up on Twitter as well - mostly info about their TV scoring projects

So... this is how I'm spending my summer. ENJOY

I never thought about it but I guess that's true. I just enjoy militant birds and philosophical bears. And pictures of hippos and otters. I retweet Ken Jennings and @XFilesButEmoji a lot too.

Let's do another 10 while I'm here and burn through the list in the other thread. (Hey Bucs, did you leave Twitter or did I get fed up reading the wrong political thing at the wrong time and unfollow you in a fit of pique?)

It's Jane! Friend from New York; she has had a series of fascinating media jobs, each more intriguing than the last. Had a GREAT blog gig for MSG a couple years ago. Now working for [redacted] as a producer. She was a member of the ezboard, I am told, but lost interest before we opened this place.

OlbermannWatch was a website dedicated to ripping apart Keith Olbermann's MSNBC show. Their Twitter was mostly a substitute for RSS for me. Fell inactive after he was bounced from MSNBC, didn't really recover with the Current gig and is pretty silent (almost a year) now that he's on ESPN2. (Did you know Olbermann's on ESPN2?) I could unfollow them but they never tweet, so my timeline wouldn't look any different, so why bother?

(Now) MediaBistro's TVNewser feed - I still click here more than I don't when I see their tweets, although they never seem to have any actual INTERESTING news for me. Over-politicized commenters have really dropped the intelligence level over there. (I know that that applies to practically every web site.)

I originally followed them to get a pointer to the Free MP3 of the Day which I would end up posting over on the Music board. This is probably the first account I'm listing where I feel like I could probably get away with unfollowing and not really losing anything of value from my timeline.

We created the account for The 7 as soon as it started populating in December 2008 (although we didn't officially launch The 7 until our "official" anniversary of 1/2/09); same deal with its autofeed. I am always relieved to see it's still running without me paying much attention to it. Usually good for a few interesting callbacks a year.

Aw, geez, this guy with his family. I'd unfollow him but that would just give him the excuse he needs to stop following ME! And he actually reads my RAW tweets, so I NEED him following me!

Another friend from New York - I had no idea 99% of her tweets are retweets, but she doesn't even retweet that often.

Probably inactive website (it's still up!) made up solely of an endless loop of Flash animations going from 0% to 100% - whenever I see somebody who hasn't tweeted for years, I'm always tempted to @ them and see if I can con them into breaking their silence - but it seems like I'm never as bored as I used to be...

Host of Fox News' "MediaBuzz" after leaving CNN (or not getting renewed, maybe?) and "Reliable Sources" - I really, really, really liked "Reliable Sources" years ago but I just can't get into "MediaBuzz" - Kurtz has made some really strange choices over the past couple years and I think they all have something to do with Lauren Ashburn - I'd unfollow him but he may still be good for a couple clicks (this not being a good example) and it's a good way to keep tabs on what's on his show without actually watching it...Sunday mornings are slow on Twitter anyway

They share lots of actual clickworthy content - it's probably like what listening to them is like if I ever listened to the radio in New York...or online...or anywhere. I retweet them probably once a month.

I gave up on Twitter a couple of years ago because I got hacked a couple of times and tweeted so rarely that it wasn't worth the cost of someone using my identity to send out spam, so I deleted it. You are literally the first person to ever notice, so thanks for that!

The sad part is I now think I even asked you this before and just totally forgot about it. (Probably on Facebook? Yep, last October.) So now I'm the first AND second person to notice!

It still cracks me up that we were interacting on Twitter for at least a year before I realized you were TBF. (One mention of USF, though, and I knew it instantly.) I did notice your absence, for the record.

The-W users in my first 10 are CRZ, James, Albert, and Cubs, with King of Keith and Brian Dermody just outside the top 10.

I've noticed that over the last few years I've wound up with a 200-person limit, give or take. It's not a conscience decision to unfollow when I follow, but when my timeline gets backlogged I tend to make a couple of cuts. Despite the same number of people followed, though, my timeline has defintiely expanded, as I kept adding people that tweet-to-much (cough, Bomani Jones, cough).

See, I've already skipped a day. So much for my discipline routine!

Mixmag is a UK dance music magazine - good for discovering new Soundcloud tracks, but they occasionally fall into the trap of tweeting the same story multiple times over a few days - seriously, I didn't miss it by the third "in case you missed it" tweet and you're just aggravating me now

Tweeted Onion-style headlines which were marginally amusing - fallen VERY inactive over the past few years, though.

aka Leroy - mostly musical content, lots of retweets

Originally a Huffington Post contributor I saw on "FOX News Watch" a few times, I think I followed her around the time she joined Mediaite - she's long gone from there now. She now floats from startup to startup asking them why they don't employ more women. (That's a gross oversimplification, but pretty well describes her tweetstream.) And if I don't tell you The Goon took her to prom, he'll write a reply reminding you. ;-)

As part of her MSG gig, Jane (with Dollie) started this account as a tie-in to their Rangers coverage - I believe there was an associated blog as well, but you can tell that after the season ended, nothing happened - and now nothing's happened here for five years...again, I COULD unfollow, but it's not damaging my timeline to keep 'em around, and you never know when I might get shocked by a sudden burst of new activity (but more likely, they'll just disappear one day)

Current KARE-TV sunrise meterologist - My first local media follow, apparently, which I think means he was an early adopter (joined April 2009) as far as local media went. Alternates weather tweets with pictures of his nights out, boyfriend, other male friends, way more trips to Israel than you'd expect for a Norwegian guy, Judaism and stories about his goats. In other words, the perfect follow if you live in my metropolitan area.

KARE sportscaster - usually sticks to sports. I think I'm in one of his Google Plus circles! Fun to heckle... gives as good as he gets

I must have been on a KARE following spree in 2009! Current KARE sports director - used to do the "wacky" stuff for the sportscast and still occasionally does - loves to Vine and send pictures of himself looking goofy, his stuff is definitely polarizing and/or an acquired taste - finally, "son of Jack Perkins" which will never NOT blow the mind of anyone who knows who Jack Perkins is

Former WCCO chief meterologist, dropped when they decided they couldn't afford him anymore and didn't renew his contract. He's founded several WX-related startups and is now mainly associated with WeatherNation. Usually sticks to weather in his tweets. Don't get him started about climate change, I beg you

The Essential Mix airs Friday night into Saturday morning on BBC1. (I grab a webrip for the iPod every week.) They mostly stick to telling you who's on the show, and occasionally will live tweet track lists as their show airs.

I'm a little shocked you still follow me, actually, so HUZZAH to that. I keep making plans to develop more of an online presence, but then life gets in the way and whatever project I envision doing keeps getting pushed back. That, coupled with no longer working in radio, means I'm just another schmuck with a Twitter account instead of a schmuck with a Twitter account AND a radio show.

Oh, and if you haven't listened to that Comcast call, you're really missing out....

What we will discover as this series progresses is that I never unfollow ANYBODY unless they seriously annoy me. Part of me doing this is to see if I can actually discover some accounts to unfollow. (I'm probably repeating myself.)

I think the closest you ever got to an unfollow was your nth consecutive day of wishing Happy Birthday to some long dead musical person. ;-)

(I THINK that was you? You have very impressively wiped out your entire twitstream except for the past few months and removed all possible evidence)

One thing I forgot about Mixmag, but was reminded repeatedly of today, is whenever they have a "guest resident" DJ performing in house, they will relentlessly shill their web stream and then retweet up to hundreds of people tweeting about what they're experiencing on the web stream. Meanwhile, I'm trying to WORK (which really means "get through Twitter while I'm at work").

I STILL feel like the positives I get out of following them outweigh the negatives, but on days like today it's a tough call.

A gimmick I thoroughly enjoyed doing, as it required some research and whatnot, but yet was so universally panned that I still take shit from a few friends for having done it.

Not for the above, but I decided that a fresh 'Twitter' start was in order.

The underpromoted ability to turn off retweets from a user (go to one of their posts on Twitter.com itself and click the gear icon) is very helpful in those situations. More so if you find yourself following someone who mostly uses Twitter once a week to RT every nice mention they can find.

Just like how I can't unfollow them, I just can't bring myself to disable their retweets because I'm more concerned about missing the important retweets (of artists announcing songs and whatnot) than I'm annoyed by the long stream of promotion via retweet.

Former WCCO anchor/reporter is now back home in on the California coast working for KSBY in San Luis Obispo (along with a few other former WCCO talent). One of the side effects of my never unfollowing anybody is I open a window into other media markets. Trompy also used to blog and she did it very well, but doesn't do it as much any more. She doesn't do much non-news tweeting any more either, which is a little sad.

KARE reporter who occasionally reads the sports on weekends, doesn't appear to enjoy being single... but also can't seem to settle on a sexual orientation, so... it's complicated

KARE reporter - tweeted maybe three times a year before this year, but has really gotten good about promoting his upcoming stories...I suspect that KARE put everybody through some kind of training, and it paid off

Toby Marks IS Banco de Gaia. He doesn't use this account (this was his last tweet and also only tweet in 2012)...

...not that the official Banco de Gaia Twitter sees much more action. Almost exclusively retweets unless he's got some product to announce, but I need those product announcements, so I'm happy to follow

"Howard Jones is on Twitter and I'm not following him?!" was probablly what I thought to myself. I love this dude!

The next generation of The Family - I see we've moved from the "local media" phase to the "musical artists I enjoy" phase

I LOVE Sheila, but she is a relentless, relentless self-promoter and serial retweeter and she also shares the occasional offbeat political opinion and... I think I'm actually going to unfollow her. (That wasn't easy)

Former KARE anchor, now working for Fox Sports San Diego, mostly on Padres hosting/coverage

Former driver of the Specialty Racing #61 car in the Nationwide series - left in 2009, failed to get a new ride and became very depressed after leaving the sport - doesn't tweet much (in fact it's always a surprise when I see him in my timeline) but when he does, it's usually about surfing - doesn't seem overly jealous of his cousin Cole - I think I was like his fourth or fifth follower. Hey whoa both he and Pom are surfing in San Diego, isn't it weird how it took years for that coincidence to emerge?

Well, we're through 40 and I've unfollowed one. Hey, that's 2.5%, though! I bet my timeline's already decreased by way more than 2.5%. I suspect business will REALLY start to pick up in another batch or two....if you're still reading, thanks for tagging along.

My sister llives in Tulsa, but every time she's home, she needs to watch Sven. I got her a Sven tshirt for Christmas two years ago that she wears proudly around Oklahoma. I did not know he has a boyfriend. Doesn't change my liking of him. How can anyone not like Sven.
Did you know (copyright WWE) that Paul Douglas was head meteorologist at KARE 25 years ago, back when it was WTCN? (I remember when they were ABC). He started "The Backyard". Left for the Windy City, came back and jumped to 'CCO, pissing a lot of locals off? When he got "not re-signed", not a lot of teears fell for him, but time has passed, and he's back to being beloved Paul.
(Looked up Paul's wiki and his real name is Douglas Paul Kruhoeffer?!?! WTF? I never knew that. Also, he lived in Stamford, CT from 82-83? Wonder if he rubbed elbows with a young VKM.)
I miss Pomeranz, but miss Paul Magers even more. HE cracked me up.
I'm with ya on Jordahl.
My wife can't stand Perk. I don't mind him.
Allen Costantini has some great bits.
I like it when Dave Schwartz does the sports. Gets right to the meat of it.

OK, enough KARE 11 tidbits.

I went through a real Paul-worship phase early in my time here. I know all about his history with the Backyard as well as his time as "the goof on the roof" in Chicago. I own his book (signed, of course) and was an early adopter to his SMS service (long gone, but he made a lot of money selling out to to some other company). I DID know his birth name as well as the fact that he did A LOT of volunteer work for the Boy Scouts of America - all of which ALMOST balances out his constant preachiness about Our Changing Climate. I kinda gave up on his blog shortly before I never heard about his blog again - I think WeatherNation is keeping him mercifully busy. 'CCO really blew it with their meteorological choices, though - Brian Gotter should be heading things up there yet he's still in Milwaukee. Chris Schaffer is a nice guy but he's a goof - actually, that goes for practically everybody working news over there right now, I guess? I sure miss old Mike Fairbourne.

Basically, I watched a lot of WCCO when Kim worked in their newsroom years ago and then switched to KARE and didn't go back, although I usually watch the WCCO Married News Team replay when I'm too lazy to change the channel after Ferguson. Practically the entire on-air team Kim worked with (mostly the weekend folks, which eventually included Jeanette Trompeter - circling back to Twitter) is long gone...well, as is she, so can it really be a surprise? (Kim's probably got still some really good John Patrick Reger stories...)

I watch KMSP's news on Sundays if I've been watching Animation Domination, and I watch KSTP's after the Oscars and that's about it.

I have one and possibly even two Sven shirts in the closet somewhere, both acquired at State Fairs. I should take them out of the closet. GET IT? But honestly, at this point it's probably more controversial that Sven is Jewish than that he's gay. It's certainly something you never see come up on the air...not that I'm up between 4:30 and 7:30, where Sven's currently holding it down with his fellow metrosexuals and also Kim and Tim - did you know Tim's retiring? That's also kinda sad. By the way, look forward to when I get to Kim Insley! But yeah, Sven is an adorable weather dwarf and I also don't see how anybody could not like him, unless maybe they don't like THE GUNS.

I did not anticipate that this discussion would turn so local!

I heard about Tim a month ago in the Strib. I'm gonna miss that guy. Have he and Kim on every morning while getting ready for work, (if I can get the control before my son turns it to Spongebob).
I've never been a big supporter of 'CCO, especially after Shelby retired. Married couple bug me. I've never liked her and he bugged me when even he was on KARE. I DO like Rosey. My Dad is a staunch KSTP follower, which I tolerate when visiting. ;-)

Twitter compainion to the Automeme site (http://autome.me) - used to randomly insert results from their website into the stream, but croaked right after this tweet. I miss them. They retweeted me once (twitter.com), which was like the only time I ever saw something from them which wasn't autoposted.

I don't think any of the Miss Sprint Cups I originally followed are still around, but they're still good for a photo here and there (and ALL DAY on race day) - too bad this was their latest tweet, but it IS a good reminder that at heart they're meant to be corporate shills above all

Another friend from New York - great taste in music, more questionable taste in underwear brands - when he's not autoposting his horoscope (which is sadly way too often these days as he's super busy with his real job), he's using a lot of emoji and punctuation to get across his point...whatever it may be.

Sniff - I still miss you, Tonight Show Twitter Tracker.

Looks like The Group gave up on Twitter last year. Even when they were active, they were pretty low-information. Oh, the show is airing this week? Like it does every week? Thanks for the note.

Cubs watches lucha so you don't have to - I hope to God someone's paying him under the table to do some of this stuff

AWArulz - wow, I had no idea his stream was like 90% church stuff now. (I'm probably exaggerating.)

I'm too old to still be following Kylie but oh well

He was the token "right winger" at Mediaite when I followed him (his fault I ever watched "Jersey Shore"); since moved on to gigs with CNN Digital (including on as a digital producer on Piers Morgan's show) and now working for The Blaze - wow, he's a VP now? Good for him. Anyway, a good follow if your timeline feels overly liberal but you're still avoiding the really crackpotty cons

NASCAR's AAA series (except when it's full of ringers) - Nationwide's been good to this series; I shudder to think what it'll be like when "Xfinity" takes over

I'm on assignment next week, so I don't know if I'll weigh in as regularly...but I may end up finding I have a lot of downtime as well. STAY TUNED!
