According to multiple reports, that sonamagun announced his retirement at a Toronto house show earlier today, due to his latest neck injury. Santino of course, is actually Canadian and apparently wanted to retire in his home and native land (and be introduced with his real home town for once).

Well that sucks for him. It also sucks for people who like wrestler who take somewhat shitty gimmicks and get them more over than they have any right too. Cena/Santio was a better Mania idea than Miz/Cena at WM27.

None of this would've happened if people just went to his party.

I just watched Top Ten Debuts on the WWE Network earlier today. As it happened when I was on a hiatus from wrestling, I had no idea that Santino made his debut by beating Umaga for the Intercontinental Championship.

Looking through his Wikipedia article, he had a lot of fun angles that I had forgotten about. Counting OVW, he spent 9 years of his 11 year career employed by the WWE. That's a record a whole lot of much bigger stars probably wish they could come close to matching.

To be fair, yeah, this party looked fun...

But then again, most of Santino's parties haven't ended well.

For a comedy wrestler, I don't think anyone ever got in as many sympathy spots as Santino. It's actually all that much more infuriating that they didn't just let him win the 2011 Rumble.

I almost forgot how much fun Kozlov and Santino were together. Thanks for the reminder.

That thing with Sheamus was awesome.

He definitely made the best of what options they gave him.
Sometimes I'd fast forward to the matches (depending on the angle/opponent) but his promos were always great.

I hope he saved up for now, and that we'll see a few appearances in the future.

He co-opened Battle Arts Academy last year, which teaches MMA, pro wrestling, and general strength training/fitness, so I think he'll be fine from a financial perspective.

I think it was the WWE Dating Game when he said he was in great pain. That was when he caught me off-guard with his humor. I liked him before that as a burgeoning submission-style wrestler.

Ha! I always thought that was Matt Striker. *makes eye doctor appointment*

They always stuck Santino in the dumbest scenarios, but he performed with such sheer joy that I always ended up liking it.

He had Ric Flair there a couple weeks ago and has many appearances. Sounds like it is working for him

It's from when he was doing "Marella At The Movies", spcifically reveiwing "The Condemned", making a face at Stone Cold's acting ability. I always loved that face.

He always did whatever they had him do with gusto. Injuries suck and when you can't do what you love anymore it gets to you. Hope they have a production job or something for him to keep doing but the other project is a good thing at least.

He and Beth Phoenix were fantastic. When Glamarella won a Slammy for best couple and Santino starts crying during his speech while you hear Beth off camera yelling "Santino don't cry!" I flipping lost it. Also the pop he got when he almost won the Rumble (he would of been miles more entertaining than the chosen path), as well as when it came down to him almost beating Daniel Bryan during the 2012 Elimination Chamber and the crowd ate the whole thing up. 2011 to 2012 was a good year for Santino.

Him making fun of Batista's (or as he called him Baptista) intro, him building up to the debut of the Cobra by everyone stopping him until he mastered the technique and finally landed it, the "rusty trombone" victory dance. We don't know what we got till it's gone.

Sad to hear that I hope WWE gives him a shout-out on Main Event or Smackdown, though since they didn't mention him on RAW tonight, they probably will let it go past unremarked. Yeah, he was wallowing at the bottom of the card as a comedic sideshow, but he always seemed to love what he was doing and did the best with whatever shitty gimmick he got handed by Creative. I always kinda wondered what Mic Foley thought of the second wrestler to use a sock puppet as a finisher (that I know of, sock puppets might have a long and storied history in pro wrestling). I'm sure he got a kick out of him.

Wonder where this will leave Emma? Maybe they'll ship her back down to NXT until they can come up with something to do with her. I still want her to be feuding with Paige or AJ (or both) for the Diva's title at some point.

I think in Santino's honor I'm going to use my free week of the Network to go back and view some of his greatest moments that I missed out on while I was on one of my hiatuses from wrestling. Apparently the 2012 Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber were high points in his career.

I enjoyed Big Show in the first tag match. He came in to work over a weakened JTG and did a nice ground-n-pound move: a stretch while slapping him in the sternum. That's just mean.
