I'm going to quote a great New Yorker article (newyorker.com) that nicely outlines all of the things wrong with this perspective

We all know this fan: this is the Bad Fan who didn’t see it as abusive when Walt lied to Skyler nonstop; or when he sexually assaulted her in the kitchen; or when he overrode her restraining order and forced himself back into her home; or when he turned Walt, Jr., against her. These fans didn’t see it as abusive when Skyler had that tragic showdown at the pool, trying and failing to negotiate with Walt to keep their kids safe. They certainly didn’t see it as abusive when Walt continued to lie, long after Skyler had finally agreed to become, as they say in the wedding vows, his partner in crime.

But wait, there's more...

You mean after she fought to protect her son from the man she believes murdered her brother-in-law (unless Skyler is somehow unintentionally responsible for Hank's death as well).

But going back to the phone call, he decided to save her because he's solely responsible for destroying their family, and it's the only minimal shot at even the slightest bit of redemption he has. The game is up - he's lost everything, and it's the only gift he has left to give. But more to the point, again, the New Yorker...

There was the part that was directed at the Bad Fan who hates Skyler, and who has written entire posts on Reddit indistinguishable from what Walt said, and who now got his own language shoved back in his face, labelled “abuser-talk.” And there was the part that was designed to sucker the Prissy Progressive Fan (me) who was all too eager to see Skyler as a pure victim, not merely of abusive Walt, but also of the Bad Fan.

Actually, the bills would've paid themselves (via Elliott and Gretchen) way back in the first season, if Walt hadn't been so bitter and vain. All of the "providing for my family" talk from Walt is nothing but his ego talking.

I had to take a few days to let this episode sink in before commenting.

First off, there should be a clean sweep of all EMMY Awards for this show - acting, writing, directing - as thsi season has seen nothing but extreme top notch performances in all areas.

As for the show, I was sorry to see Hank die but I am glad he went out like a man. It is funny, in the first season I thought he was a bit of a dick. By the shows end I loved him and was psyched for him when he finally caught Walt.

As for Walt, he told Jesse about Jane because Jesse had betrayed Walt. He went to the police and ruined everything for Walt. Through the whole time Walt always had Jesse's back (at least in Walt's head). Now, Jesse did not have his. And when he involved his brother-in-law, it made it 100% worse.

As for the phone call, I thought it was Walt's way of telling Skylar he was sorry for everything and that he loved her and this was his parting gift to her. All the blame for everything is on him and none of it is on her. It was like her reward for sticking by him and not turning him him.

I was happy to see Walt Jr., stick up for his mom since he had always been 100% in Walt's court. Him finally realizing the monster his Dad is and calling the cops on him was a life altering moment for him.

I never really warmed up to Marie the entire series. But I did agree with her that Skylar needed to tell Walter Jr. about his dad so he would not hear about it from the media. Although I do think she had ulterior motives for doing so.

So now Walt heads (presumably) to New Hampshire to start a new life, Jesse is stuck cooking for Todd and friends for the rest of his until Walt comes back and saves the day. I do think Walt guns down Todd and friends, helps Jesse escape, and then takes the Ricin himself. This has to end with Walt dying and the only one who can kill Walt is Walt.

My conflicting emotions over excitment for the next episode and sadness over the series ending continues to battle within me!

Life is hilariously cruel.

Josh gives a different take on the Jane bomb, Joe talks about the sound of silence and we discuss if $70 million dollars is enough to hide from Lydia.

I agree to a point. I had a thought on the way to work this morning. What if Walt's plan is that after he off's Jack, Todd, and company, he takes the ricin to keep the world from having access to HIS formula. He presumes Jessie to be dead (or soon to be at the point he left for NH, that is), and even if he wasn't, his life has turned to shit because of Walt and the blue meth. He won't cook again, by choice.

Both decent theories, but I was thinking about something else: Why can't Walt just make more ricin? There has to be a deep, personal reason he wants to use THAT ricin.

Walt is sentimental. He may have gone back to just see his house.

I cast my votes for Marcus, but I'd be surprised if he won. The audience didn't get to see him do standup *at all* between the semifinals and this week's show, and then he went early in the show this time. Big disadvantages.
