Remember when Glee used to be a lighthearted comedy? I'm not sure if I've ever seen an episode of television this offensive/terrible. Just when it seemed that Glee was getting its shit together, they go and pull a stunt like this.

Where to even begin? For starters, the title of this episode: 'Shooting Star.' Strike one.

Even if this episode hadn't featured a school shooting, it still would have been terrible for the simple reason that the glee club sang a song to a cat. In a show that is generally filled with stupid shit, this pretty much takes the cake. Who wrote this episode and actually thought it was a good idea to feature this scene minutes before a gun was fired in the hallway?

The story of Ryder and his Catfish continued this week, and while it was mildly interesting at first, it's now become another excuse for a lame Glee PSA. It feels like they're just looking for social issues that they haven't discussed yet and are shoehorning them into episodes at random. The fact that they're dragging out this story for yet another week is just the icing on top of the shit cake.

The tonal shifts were jarring throughout the episode. In the scene right before the gunshot, Will is joking about what a terrible rapper he is. In the scene following the shooting, Kitty makes a joke about how Ryder looks like a penis. Only on Glee.

If there is one positive note, it's that the acting in this episode was actually pretty solid. One of the few scenes of the episode that actually worked was Sam's freakout in the choir room, and that's because the actor sold the hell out of it. Of course, this powerful moment was undercut immediately afterwords: after telling Sam that nobody can leave the choir room under any circumstance, the next scene features Will roaming the hallways looking for Brittany. This show!

On a final note, if this really is the end of Jane Lynch on Glee, then I'm really going to miss her. She was always able to bring out the best in the worst material. While the twist of Becky bringing the gun to school was somewhat stupid, she was still able to sell the hell out of the moment.

I'm hoping this was just a minor misstep in an otherwise solid fourth season, because it's hard to get excited about the remaining four episodes when all that I can say after this episode is "fuck this show."

Nous ne nous pouvons pas sortir.
I know budget and blah blah blah but characters like Sugar and Joe randomly showing up one episode and then not being there the next three is really annoying. Use them, or don't, and stop keeping all these plates spinning. Jettison the graduates or follow them and forget about the newbies.

The reasoning for the school "shooting" was really lame.

The songs were laughable at best. I'm with Turtle on this - singing to a cat was truly lame. Shark = jumped over.

So Ryder's "catfish" girlfriend is someone in the Glee Club. My guess is that gross guy/girl thing. I get creeped out whenever he/she/it performs or even talks.

May the lords of TV land please end this series - its truly starting to suck again.

I saw it at a free screening a week ago. I enjoyed it, but I was also glad it was free. It reminded me a little of The Simpsons episode when Homer and Ned went to Vegas and ended up marrying a couple of floozies, with Ed Helms as Ned and John C.
