Oh my god, I am so happy and surprised by this. Honestly, I never thought a Bond movie could make that much bank, but by god, he did it.
Skyfall surpassed Phantom Menace on the all Time Box Office charts bring it's total up to $1,032.9 million. Never did I imagine Daniel Craig being able to do something like this. I was one of the 'James Blond' naysayers back before Casino Royale even came out. Boy was I totally wrong about him.
$1,032.9 million is what I like to translate to $1.0329 billion, but hey, whatever works.
Skyfall was a brilliant film; in my opinion the best Bond film since From Russia With Love, though On Her Majesty's Secret Service deserves consideration as well. I agree: I couldn't be happier that it's been so successful.
Although it got robbed by not having a Best Picture nomination or one for Best Supporting Actor. Guess The Dark Knight hasn't completely broken the glass ceiling.

You might be correct if the decimal point was three digits to the left, but since it is not, you are not correct. It was a cut and paste, so...
Before Casino Royale came out, all the news stories about it were that Craig was terrible, he couldn't drive an Aston Martin(stick shift), he got beat up filming a fight scene, and he just did not look the part at all (Hence the 'James Blond' nickname), all of which I agreed with at the time. After finally seeing him in the film, I was proven wrong but I'll still call him James Blond cause it's funny.

Casino Royale – How Daniel Craig’s Bond triumphed over expectations.
Daniel Craig wasn’t what you might call born to play the part. He was blond for a start, which prompted the tabloids to quip, “No Mr. Bond, we expect you to dye!” He was also an inch or so below the regulation six feet, and for many people was that was an unforgivable sin. It wasn’t helped by the fact that at the press conference announcing his introduction as the new James Bond, Daniel Craig, nestled amongst several Royal Marine Commandos, seemed to be rather gaunt and ill-at-ease. Not only that, but, on this auspicious occasion, he was criticised for wearing a life jacket on his trip across the Thames – despite a Royal Marine insisting that he wear it.
In fact, so against archetype was Daniel Craig, that the tabloid press had a field day, and it seemed not a week went by during the filming of Casino Royale without some derogatory article hitting the headlines, making insinuations about his less than Bond-like credentials. Amongst Craig’s host of apparent sins were that he hated guns, he lost a tooth in a fight with a stunt man, he had heat stroke, he was afraid of water, and could not drive a manual car.
All this was compounded by the fact that the producers had bravely decided to reboot the franchise and have Bond start afresh with a newly-minted OO7. Of course, to die-hard fans, this was too much to take. Ordinarily, the fans are fairly positive and encouraging when it comes to the introduction of a new Bond, but this time there was undisguised hatred. A website called DanielCraigIsNotBond.com was launched and was instantly picked up upon by the tabloid press.Even though the released image of Craig in the tux looked great, and the reports from the set were very favourable, many people expected, nay, demanded, that Casino Royale should be a flop. Certainly, no one in Fleet Street expected to be eating quite so much humble pie.
"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." - Winston Churchill
If fans were in such an uproar about Craig being blond and 5'10", imagine what'll happen when Idris Elba becomes the next Bond.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

This confuses me. One-thousand-million equals one-billion. Correct? Isn't that what Eke was saying? If so, how is he wrong? Granted, math was never a strong suit. Or maybe I should just leave this one alone.

Only reason DK got the win was because Ledger died.

If Ledger didn't die, who would you have given the nod to? Who had a better, more complex performance?

On topic, loved Skyfall.
We may be having difficulty between the long-scale and short-scale numbering systems. In the short scale, used in America, a billion is a one followed by 9 zeroes, or a thousand-million, as noted. In the long scale, traditionally used in the UK (though they officially switched to the short scale in 1974), a billion is a one followed by 12 zeroes or a million-million. The long scale is still used many parts of the world (that are not English-speaking or Arabic speaking), including our neighbors in Mexico and Quebec.

Over the Christmas holidays, a friend introduced me to the British film Layer Cake, where Craig plays a drug dealer. From what I was told, this was the role that helped propel him to the Bond franchise. It's really quite good, so if you get the chance, I'd recommend it.
(Plus the nerd in me loved that one of his henchmen in the movie was Tom Hardy/Bane.)
Ledger won for supporting actor(deservedly so) but the Dark Knight was not even nominated so I'm not sure how the topic even got on TDK and breaking the glass ceiling.
I guess you could make the argument that the TDK uproar was part of the reason for expanding to 10 nominees but I'm not sure it's helped much. The first 2 years there were a few movies that otherwise might not have gotten nominated (District 9, Up, Toy Story 3, Inception) but the last two years they seem to have gone back to the same "Oscar-type" movies, they just choose 10 of them instead of 5.
As for Skyfall, the overseas numbers are impressive, beat all the Harry Potters except for Deathly Hallows Part 2.
