I'm a Calgary Flames fanatic. I'll admit it. I chat occationally on TSN.ca as FlamesFAN. I have a problem... I know...
But the Flames won't suck this year.
Rob Niedermayer is signed Jarome Iginla will sign Hobey Baker winner Jordan Leopold [Best NCAA Defensemen in last decade] is signed Chuck Kobasew is signed Jamie McLennan is signed Mike Vernon is gone Igor Kravchuk is gone Craig Berube is gone
We have better, younger players and mo' money.
Flames for Cup in 2003.
I say this every year, but this is the year!

Sorry man, but I'm a disgruntled former Flames fan, and I can't let this pass. I hate to be negative, but ...
"Rob Niedermayer is signed" 2001 stats -- 57 GP, 6 goals, 14 assists. 6 lousy goals. Rob Niedermayer hasn't had a decent season in 6 years or so ... why will '02-'03 be any different? The only good thing about Rob Niedermayer is his taste in women -- when he played for Florida he dated Niki Taylor (!!!)
"Jarome Iginla will sign." Or Jarome Iginla will hold out like he did the last time his contract ran out, and then he will "regretfully" part ways with the Flames. Honestly, he could get $9 million a year out of the big market American teams ... why would he sign for less in a small Canadian market? The fact that he played for Calgary already cost him the MVP award last year -- the eastern sportwriters just do not vote for western players. Al Macinnis was the best defenseman in the NHL for 5 full seasons in Calgary, and he didn't get the individual recognition he deserved.
"Jordan Leopold is signed". Great name. Maybe one of the best names in pro sports. But he hasn't played a single NHL game yet.
"Chuck Kobasew is signed". Chuck Kobasew is signed??? THE Chuck Kobasew? Wow!!! (Who the fuck is Chuck Kobasew?)
"Jamie McLennan is signed." Please read over the rosters for the Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, LA Kings, or either of the New York teams, and tell me if McLennan could crack any of their rosters? He's a decent major league player, but only that.
Vernon, Kravchuk and Berube are all gone. Wow, that frees up all of $5 million this year. Or HALF of what Detroit is going to pay their replacement for the Dominator.
Sorry Freeway ... the Flames MAY make the playoffs this year. They MAY pull off an upset over Detroit, Colorado or LA. But that is all ... you might as well hope that the Expos or the Blue Jays will win the World Series. Lower those expectations, and success tastes much sweeter.

Well, they're bound to turn around! They've got CuJo in exchange for an 8th round pick!

As if they'll keep him =)
(edited by El Nastio on 1.7.02 0117) On June 27th, 2002, the Montreal Expos (number one on the MLB contraction list) added MONEY to their payroll, aquiring Bartolo Colon. In a time like this, there's two quotes that come to the forefront;
cfgb: "I hate to say it, but Atlanta really needs to be watching their rear ends". And Number Two;
-signed LW Martin Gelinas to a contract -signed RW Chuck Kobasew to a multi-year deal -signed C Rob Niedermayer to a contract -signed D Jordan Leopold to a contract

The goal given up against Maltby when Colorado was on the power play was just horrid. I could see it coming but Patrick couldn't, apparently. And then one off his skate! D'oh! At least they did win. I'm thinking both series are going to go 6-7 games.
