So how do the SEC fans feel about the possibility of expanding and having that expansion be based around Texas A&M? aTm? Really? That just seems weird that A&M would be driving things to lead to an eventual add-on them, Florida State, Clemson, and Missouri (which is the latest variation on expansion I heard today).
When the Pac-10 was looking at going to 16 teams with Texas, Oklahoma and the pupu platter from the rest of the Big XII I wasn't really excited about that (as a Pac-10 fan), and I'm still pretty uninspired about the Pac-12. (Although, I would say that *maybe* I would be more into it if I hadn't reset the Pac-12 back to the Pac-10 in my NCAA football 12 dynasty.) And aside from football what would adding those four schools bring to the table in other sports? Not much from men's hoops, at least.

Of the teams being mentioned as 14 for the SEC, Clemson has always had more the feel of an SEC type program than an ACC program. ACC gets raided, then they probably go for Louisville to keep the league at 12 and actually strengthen themselves in basketball. SEC moves are all about football, and A&M is one of the richest non Ivy League schools in America. Interesting question is does Texas' power cause the Oklahoma schools to send out feelers to the SEC or Pac 12? Could be the deal the Big XII made with Texas to keep them in the conference ends up completely killing the conference.
The SEC gets a foothold in Texas is a big win for them, but Texa A&M will be another Vanderbilt. They can barely compete in the Big 12, they will get embarrassed. I am also not a big fan of the new Presidential candidate announcing it for a cheap publicity stunt. I guess there is nothing else going on in Texas. If they do go, it will be a minor annoyance, but Air Force or BYU would make up for the loss.

You do realize A&M is #9 in the preseason Coaches Poll this season? Not conference, mind you, nationally?
Clemson's football program really needed those NC and Duke games for the football program. Being in the same conference as the University of South Carolina will make that annual game even more of a blood feud.
So who does the ACC have for football now?

From what I understand, Clemson fans expect to contend for a national title every season. Maybe it's that kind of misplaced confidence and loud-mouthed bragging that makes them feel like they belong in the SEC.

Clemson fans are SEC caliber, no doubt. I think just like last year everyone is jumping to conclusions though. FSU, Missouri and Clemson are all saying they haven't even been asked. Word from FSU though is that if they are asked, they'll go. I do know that even if they did decide to, the rules of the ACC make it so that they couldn't leave until after the 2012 season unless the deal is done before 8/15 this year which isn't happening.
I'm guessing the worry would be that if everyone goes to 16 team conferences, better to get in the SEC than be a part of a merged Big East/ACC leftover group. I'd assume the Big 10 would grab a few Big 12 and Big East schools. Pac 12 grabs some Big 12 teams, Texas goes independant so they can show what they want on thier channel.
Or the Big 12 manages to calm the Aggie butthurt yet again and nothing comes from any of this.
The news reports I got on the radio heading home from work were speculating that this was a political statement from the SEC, and that once A&M has their trustee's meeting and whatever else, then things are right back on track for A&M to make the jump
God, A&M is being so retarded here. Screwing themselves just cause they're pissed at Texas for being Texas. You have to figure the SEC schools will love playing a game in Texas every year, having more access to recruits here. But what does A&M get out of it? A tougher conference, when they couldn't win in the Big 12? Do they think they'll now be able to convince Florida kids to leave the beach for College Station? Really?
Maybe the SEC can renegotiate it's TV deal and get A&M more money that way, but last year when this all went down A&M whined until they got a bigger share of the Big 12 money along with Texas and OU, as though A&M was somehow on the same level as those two.
Just seems like the Aggies are crying a lot the past year over made up slights.
