...the Black Eyed Peas. Ugh. As much as we complain about seeing the oldie acts at halftime, at least they were talented.

Come on, NFL. You REALLY couldn't book Jessica Simpson, just for the comedy value?

Ugh. Here I was actually hoping to hear music during the Halftime Show.

I didn't mind some of their stuff from a few years ago, but anything they've done more recently has annoyed the living shit out of me. Their efforts at performing live also seem to be less than in tune from what I've heard, so yeah, ugh.

I guess the young folks love 'em or something.

Good for them for going young again. No Doubt killed in their halftime show.

Both Kornheiser and Wilbon were singing their praises yesterday, so I think it goes beyond that.

Young folks and older folks trying to sound like they're still down with the kids? I was mostly just being cantankerous though.

I applaud the generational shift after a good few years of oldies, but I boo with gusto the selection of the Black Eyed Peas as the specific means to that general end.

Have the Black Eyed Peas ever actually released anything that wasn't heavily sampled from a much better song? (Rhetorical question).

I always get a kick out of seeing the two other guys for some reason.

"Joints & Jam" is a pretty good original single from 1998. Anything pre-Fergie is fairly tolerable.

Kinda surprised it wasn't Lady GaGa. Whether you like her or not, she definitely fits the criteria of being a big enough performer to do the halftime show.

Just curious, but has Madonna ever done the halftime show?

If this list of every Super Bowl halftime show is correct, then no.

Considering that we got old bands for 5 years because of Janet Jackson's attention seeking wardrobe malfunction, I can't imagine the NFL would let Lady Gaga anywhere near the halftime show.

Plus somehow I just don't see Lady GaGa's target audience having much crossover with the NFL's audience (even if the Super Bowl has a much broader, more diverse viewership).

Prince frowns upon your shenanigans. I'm not even that big of a fan, but damn, yo.

I enjoyed Prince, Petty, Springsteen. All solid performances.

The BEP did the Grey Cup a few years back - that's more their level.

I'm not sure I understand. Isn't the BEP often the top-selling group in the world? They're pretty successful/well-liked...

I have something of an off-again, on-again thing going with Australian Rules Football. I remember one time (had to be the 90's) tuning in late one night for ESPN's live coverage of the Grand Final.

I turn it on a few minutes after they started, to hear a golden oldie coming out of my television - "Georgy Girl" - which was a hit in 1964...

Hold on, turns out I was watching on October 1, 1994. And it's YouTubeable! I'll spare you the embed, but leave a link if you want to hear The Seekers sing something new "I Am Australian", something old "Georgy Girl" and something in case you're feelin' blue "Waltzing Matilda". The singer sounds like she hadn't missed a beat in the 30 years since their heyday.

1994 Aussie Rules Grand Final

Much as I enjoyed this performance, I don't think we should complain too much about the Black Eyed Peas.

Just makes you breathe a slightly bigger sigh of relief that Asante Samuel ended his holdout. Imagine being with BOTH him and Harrison?
