Saw a commercial for Windows Internet Explorer 8. They seem to
be hyping it's online security.

Has anybody actually downloaded it and tried it out? On my new laptop, it had IE7 and it never once worked. It would always freeze up on me.
Just wondering if it's decent or not. Right now I use either Firefox, or SRWare Iron (google chrome without the spying included). I was just curious if it seems to be faster, and more reliable.

Being the most secure M$ browser isn't really much of a claim.
It's worth the upgrade if you wanted to keep using IE.
Anyone still using IE6 should upgrade NOW.
If you're happy with FF or Chrome-likes stick with them.

IE8 seems to be an improvement over IE7 from what I've used, but there's nothing especially compelling about it if you're comfortable with another browser.

I've had good luck with IE8, when it crashes it just reloads whatever tab caused the problem which has been a great feature. But if you're going to check out IE, why not try 9?

Yeah, I was just about to ask if the OP meant to ask about IE9 because IE8 must have been out for almost a year now.

I'd also add that every new version of IE, from IE6 onward, has been worth downloading if you insist on using IE as your primary browser. Generally speaking Microsoft has been making awful, non-standards-compliant browsers for years. But with every new version that comes out, they come closer to finally getting it right.

Yes, this is a sweet feature and completely intuitive. All my extensions (ForecastFox, StumbleUpon, FasterFox) are all working fine. So far, so good. Viva Firefox!
