Anyone notice any websites, TV stations, newspapers, or individuals doing anything for April Fool's Day this year? Just started two minutes ago on the East Coast.

Google usually has a funny "news" story, but it hasn't been posted yet.

People aren't sure about it, but AJ Daulerio purportedly posted a copy of his DUI arrest report on Deadspin. Also, The Room.

Ah, here we go, I knew Google wouldn't let me down:

They "announced" that they have changed their name to Topeka, because "all roads lead to Kansas", and because Topeka changed its name to Google early last month. (Which actually happened; the month of March in the city was "Google, Kansas: the capital city of fiber-optics."

We had a few:

Queen St in Melbourne had the signs changed to 'Republic St'.

Again in Melbourne, an initiative was publicised for see through perspex drunk tanks to be placed in public places in the fight against alcohol fueled violence.

In Sydney a radio station announced that David Beckam had been signed as an assistant for the upcoming World Cup campaign, including an interview with the man himself.

The Australian Prime Minister in response to a Robin Williams bit on the Letterman show, gets his own back by insulting the entire state of Alabama.

Former Victorian Police Commissioner Christine Nixon has been appointed to the board of brewing giant Fosters.

(Actually - I think the last 2 are true, but they sound like they should be jokes).

Cheers

The webcomic XKCD is doing a DOS-looking interface for pulling up comics. You actually type "last", "first", "previous", "next" and "random" instead of clicking them. Looks kinda spiffy, actually.

Wikipedia's "In the News" articles on the front page talk about how some of its customers were accidentally sent back to the year 1999 (which was really a PlayStation 3 software bug on March 1); about how the Mystery Monkey of Tampa Bay eluded authorities in St. Petersburg; about how Russia shrank the country in time; how a member of the Rotschild banking family of England set sail for the Great Pacific Garbage Patch on a boat on a boat made from 12,000 plastic bottles; and about how the latest record-breaking experiments at the Large Hadron Collider have not (yet) caused the end of the world as we know it.

They have a whole thing on "Did You Know", too.

Also, Wikipedia's Article of the Day is wife selling, which sounded to me like a joke but apparently it isn't.

The webcomic "Questionable Content" has apparently become the Japanese manga "Magical Love Gentleman" (previously mentioned in the comic) instead.

Here's a list of the top April Fools' Day hoaxes, courtesy of Kim Kommando: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/aprilfool/P0/

There's some pretty funny stuff on there, and quite a few I hadn't heard of.

Linux, actually. And don't forget in-jokes to #149 (xkcd.com), to name one.

I really hate it when news outlets get in on the gag, but, I have to admit, this one made me laugh pretty hard:

Man arrested at Large Hadron Collider claims he's from the future (crave.cnet.co.uk)

The LHC successfully collided particles at record force earlier this week, a milestone Mr Cole was attempting to disrupt by stopping supplies of Mountain Dew to the experiment's vending machines. He also claimed responsibility for the infamous baguette sabotage in November last year.

    ...

Mr Cole was taken to a secure mental health facility in Geneva but later disappeared from his cell. Police are baffled, but not that bothered.

A couple more webcomic related happenings. Comics in general have a history of April Fools related happenings, and webcomics are no different.

Over at LeftHandedToons, they decided to make a crucial change. Going to lefthandedtoons.com redirects you to righthandedtoons.com.

After over three years of drawing everything left-handed, we are giving it up and are going to give you something that we feel is much better. We have redrawn a couple of our comics to fit the new format.

    Warm Regards,

Over at Dinosaur Comics, he's done something really interesting. Dinosaur Comics uses the same picture for every single strip. Only the words change. He's changed the picture not just for today, but for every day in the archive. It looks like the text might be an overlay on the picture, but still pretty amazing. The new picture is from the comic Nedroid, by the way.

Around the Horn just finished their show for the day, running it completely backwards...Woody Paige won? A lot of them tried to play into it with food related objects...

PTI followed suit with a very real sounding story about Tiger wanting to be addressed only as Eldrick going forward, to lead off the show, and which I totally took the bait for.

Usually Pro Football Talk is chocked full of April Fools news stories, but none that I saw today.

Damn them to hell... they got me seven years ago. I forget exactly what the story was; I think something about someone coming back. No one in the class (TV news production) believed it, then someone asked what day it was.

"...oh. Fuck."

PFT did mention Rich Eisen catching Shawne Merriman in an April Fool's joke where Eisen claimed the league was going to start fining players for any premediated celebration, such as his "Light's Out" dance.

EDIT: I really don't need to be posting anymore, so I'll just add here that minorleaguebaseball.com appears to be getting in the spirit, claiming Aroldis Chapman is converting to an outfielder.
