Even though you should probably have seen the show if you clicked on this thread, that finale feels like it needs some spoiler tags. And probably some space to sit back and let it sink it. I don't even know where to start.

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
maybe with "so Dead IS Dead", huh?

Nice parallel of last season ending with a character broken, but using their last big of strength to change the world.

The weird things is the big tease for the next season is along the lines of "What's the status quo NOW?", but it'll be awful tough not let us know by the time ads start turning up in November.

I almost wonder if ABC intentionally leaked the Elizabeth Mitchell cast in V story so that we'd believe her falling into the energy was her demise. I was screaming at the tv when it happened, myself. I even thought during the commercial break, "what exactly IS down there? Maybe she survived..." but I dismissed it. BUT DAY-AMN.

LOVED THE WHITE TITLE CARD.

LOVED Juliet breaking up with Sawyer and LOVED Sawyer trying so hard to save her.

ROSE AND BERNARD ARE RETIRED~!!!

The finale reminded me of season one (boom goes the dynamite), with them saving the explosion until the very end. Funny that it happened in the exact same spot no less. Guess we'll have to wait till next year to see what's in the hatch...

I'm not even going to touch (get it?) the Jacob storyline just yet. All I'll say is that I had a feeling Locke was in the box when Lapidus said "terrific." I really need to watch that whole subplot again.

I wish I were a bear and I could just hibernate until January.

I'm hoping this in some way brings Locke back to life. I'm still waiting to find out how he knew it was going to rain in season one and this may just tie in to that.

So does anyone think that Rose & Bernard may be the skeletons they find in season 1?

I did not see dead John Locke coming. I thought they had a bomb as well.

Who was the man Jacob was talking to in the beginning of the episode?

So, what happens next? 2010 seems so far off.

It made me wonder why Locke had Ben be the one to kill Jacob. I got a Buffy S7 non-corporeal First Evil flashback.

I was right there with you. The more I think about it, the more I think this has to do with whatever happened to Ben after Richard brought him to the Temple. I think once we know more from S6, we'll realize this whole season (if not more of the show) was Not-Locke enacting his plan to kill Jacob. Everything that happened was him working towards creating that loophole, which we know so little about.

Good call on Rose and Bernard as "Adam & Eve". Can we believe that they have a "happily-ever-after" and die peacefully, together? Awwwwww. I got sort of a "mellow Mr. & Mrs. Howe" vibe from their little shack. Nice to see Vincent living with them, too.

I'm guessing the Other Guy (from the opening scene) is the spirit currently controlling Locke. Whereas Jacob had used Christian Shepherd in past episodes.

In that opening scene, Jacob had a white shirt and the other guy had a black shirt. Going back to the black/white duality that was on display with Locke/Walt and Widmore/Ben in previous seasons. I'm guessing the two are brothers in some way and eternal "Agents of Chaos and oOrder" or some shit. They keep experimenting and trying to prove points to each other. Only issue I have with them is that their dialogue seemed WAY too contemporary in that opening scene (the Black Rock crashed in the 1800's... and their speech patterns seemed like something from 1985 or later).

So Sayid gets shot ..and still lives (for awhile, at least). Wow... a LOT of people do not die from close range gunshot blows in this show. See: Young Ben Linus, Locke, Desmond, sure I'm forgetting a few.

Season ends on a big white light...so they could theoretically pick it up anywhere and anytime, next season. C'mon, 2010! Get here! Think I might finally pick up the DVD's and re-watch all the old shit until then (I also wanna' get the Main Chickie into it...since I've been patiently sitting through CSI, Law & Order and Daisy of Love with her).

Yes yes YES. The other others clearly pointed out that Jacob hadn't been in the cabin for YEARS and that some other douchebag was douching it up in there. This is of course the same guy in black who becomes Not-Locke. Who broke the binding? Who knows?

Now we're at the realization that the entire series has basically been boiled down to two beings playing a game of chess (or backgammon if you will) against each other forever. EVERYBODY we've met from Jack to Sawyer to Charles Widmore and Ben have all been pieces of this big overall game.

The funny part is that despite what Frank the Pilot said, both Ben and the other others were "good guys." ...as long as you believe Jacob was a good guy.

Also: Richard at least has a reason to have been looking like he's been transported to bizzaro world. Now we now exactly how Not-Locke knew when Real-Locke was going to pop back into time. Finally, now we know that Richard has every right to question Locke's resurrection given that it never really happened.

Finally also (I have so many thought to write out on this but I really need sleep and another viewing first): Hats off to Terry O'Quinn. Everybody noted how revitalized and smart the new and improved John Locke was. O'Quinn basically played a brand new character inside his old character's body. Plus, he did it just enough to get us to notice how different he was, but not over the top crazy that we would ever doubt his revival.

That's the sickest part of this show in general: We accepted something as ludicrous as resurrection because with all the craziness on this show, why not? Who would've thought the craziest thing to happen would be for a dead character to still be dead?

Yes, I do as well; it occurred to me last week when I was reading something about the skeletons and it mentioned that they had a black stone and a white stone with them, which I had forgotten about and which seemed symbolic and stuff.

I also have to say, if I was a blonde woman, the Island is the last place I'd want to be. They do not fare well there.

I am genuinely not happy at all about the fact that we got a "evil twin" with unexplained but implied ulterior motives storyline with Not Locke or Black Shirt or Loophole Man or whatever the hell he is. His comment as Not Locke to a dying Jacob at the end made me think that it was he as Jacob, not Jacob himself, who helped to shape each of the characters in some way in their earlier life. Though I can't see what giving an Apollo Bar (Hurley would be jealous) to Dr. Jackenstein had to do with anything other than the transference of an object. Something that happened in each segment.

Now I have to question whether all the characters died in 1977 with Juliet setting off the bomb or did the bomb play the role of the Failsafe Key that Desmond turned in Season 2 ? Did the magnetic anomaly/impulse neutralize or centralize the blast into turning the sky purple ?

Assuming the blast worked, where did they wind up ? 2004 at LAX with no knowledge of what happened ? 2004 with knowledge of what happened ? 2007 on the island ? How does this blast effect the killing of Jacob ? Did that now not happen too ?

Rose & Bernard as Adam & Eve ? Sure, why not ? Actually, who cares ? They really have proven to be no more than storyline fillers for writers who never thought they would get past 13 episodes. I did like Bernard's beard and the fact that they gave him Sawyer's trademark "son of a bitch" line.

Dr. Jackenstein's reason to set off the bomb was so selfish that he made himself even less palatable than even I thought possible. Kate has always been his despite her obvious chemistry with Sawyer but Jack's lack of self esteem and his inferiority/daddy complex has kept him from seeing that.

and I am still too angry to discuss Juliet & Sawyer.

Is it next January yet ?

Well at least we got a good look at the statue, which can now be narrowed down to the Egyptian God Sobek, The Repairer of Evil.

A quick look-see on Wiki led me to the story of how Sobek captured the 4 sons of Horace. They all resemble 4 of our most vital characters.

Finally, 20 years after Latin 1 and Latin 2 it finally came to use: "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" - He who will save us.

So Smokey = Locke 2.0. Poor Ben has been duped the whole time by Smokey/Beach guy.

Sigh...2010 is a long ways away.

Jacob didn't give anything to Sayid, Ilana, Jin/Sun, or Locke.

He handed a map to Sayid - He touched Alana and "gave" her a mission - He touched and "gave" his blessing to Jin/Sun and he "gave" Locke his life back (at least it looked that way to me)

(Edit - I should have put "object" in quotes to start)

But he touched those four, didn't he? Funny how they didn't name Not Locke/Black Shirt/Loophole Man at all - he named Jacob in the first scene, but Jacob didn't return the favor for us, so we're stuck using nicknames until 2010...

I'd think that on one hand, any of the non-Oceanic folks (plus Miles) would be the only ones that'd cease to exist in the future since the blast would possibly wipe out the reason, as Daniel predicted, for the plane to crash. On the other hand, then, why bother with the Jacob-getting-stabbed storyline if it was going to be rendered moot by the blast 30 years in the past? Well, unless Richard, Ellie, and Charles Widmore didn't die in the blast, I suppose...

A co-worker of mine believes that there are/were actually two smoke monsters. A white/pale one that Locke saw, and the darker one others did, and were killed by....although besides the mercenaries, was anyone else actually killed by the smoke monster? I was thinking that it almost fit, because it WAS the image of Alex, which appeared to Ben right after Ben saw the smoke monster, that told him to do whatever Locke told him.

Although the whole Christian Shephard thing still makes my brain hurt...

I got the impression that Jacob and loop-hole guy is a God versus Devil or Angel versus Demon type of scenario.

Funniest line of the night for me:

Locke talking to Ben on the beach: "Look behind you."

Ben: "Wow, a door. How about that."

It all hinges on Jacob. We can infer that in Season 6, everything WILL be reset in some way, because Jacob needs to live. Therefore, if Jacob is the ultimate good of this universe and needs to win against Loophole Man, we can assume that Jack's plan to detonate the bomb WAS his real and good destiny, thus saving Jacob.

Wouldn't it be something if this same scenario has played out again and again across the eons, as the opening beach scene seemed to imply? Wouldn't it fry your mind if next season opens with the Black Rock coming ashore and the crew is Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Locke etc. only from an earlier era?

Sing this special song. It's just for you.
I'm guessing the blast blew them to 2009/2010.

Smoke monster fatalities off the top of my head: Eko and Matt Parkman. Or the pilot who wasn't Matt Parkman.

So is it safe to assume that non-Locke has been behind all of Locke's near deaths (the premature birth, the fall from the building) in an attempt to usurp his Destiny and kill Jacob... who was really kind of awesome. "There's only one end, and everything up to that is progress."

Maybe the blast'll knock them far enough in the future to see the Aaron/Walt showdown.

This is going to be a long seven months.

We've been taught all season long that when the screen goes white, there's time travel afoot. And all the castaways stuck in the 70s (minus Miles) were the people visited by Jacob.

"They're coming" indeed.
