I dunno. This is the second hike he took and I'm wondering if Vince had thought about giving him the pink slip. Don't get me wrong - I like Steve Austin (especially when he was HEEL AUSTIN~!) but I'm starting to wonder if this is grounds enough for termination and release from his contract - despite the fact that he put a tonnage of $$$ in Vince's pockets.

Vince should job Austin to anyone around, and THEN fire him. Just as with Mr. Perfect, this would cool his pop going into whoever else he signed with. Imagine, if he became the NWA Champion. Then the WWE could be like, hey the NWA sucks, because their champion lost to one of our mid-card guys. But then, as you can see, I believe that a) Austin is in the wrong, and 2) you should get revenge whenever possible.

So, Austin will walk out for something relatively small like not liking current storylines, but he'll step RIGHT in line to be humiliated and fired. Riiight. More likely than not, Austin would simply walk away and force Vince to settle the matter in court rather than take any shots to his character.

The fact is, Vince has walked over every wrestler he's ever hired, now he's just being made to eat a bowl of his own shit.

Have really good times doing really bad things
‘Cause the show ain't over ‘til the fat lady sings
Like Elton John with his candle in the wind
It's hard to blow out a flame as big as him

Austin won't show up unless he's promised the world at this point, and certainly not just to job to Jeff Hardy. All they'll do is let him sit at home and let his name value drop day by day, just like they did to Chyna when she pissed Stephanie off (by having the balls to date Triple H before her).

There's a huge world of difference between the name value of Steve Austin, one of the two biggest U.S. wrestling stars ever, and Chyna.

Austin would never let his character be degraded like that. Think about it. As someone said, he would walk before having to job to Perfect or one of the Hardys.

I see this going one of two ways: (1) Austin sits out until everything is eventually smoothed over (probably the most likely scenerio) or (2) ending up in a lawsuit for a contract violation. I don't think he will be fired, and Austin would not allow himself to be punished by jobbing.

If this isn't a work, and he really walked out, then he should be benched until his contract runs out, without another mention on TV. Let him see what that does for his career. Also, that might (*might*) help rein in the NWO's and HHH's of the place from running rampant. McMahon has proven one thing: everyone is expendable in this organization, and no one is above the bottom line but the boss.

BTW, anyone know if WWE owns the trademarks to his character and name, like they do for the Rock?

I think WWE does own the trademark on "Stone Cold," but not "Steve Austin." He was given that name by an indy promoter waaaayyyyy back in the day (due to that Dr. Death guy already working under Steve's REAL name, Steve Williams.)

He kept it in WCW as "Stunning" Steve Austin, and I believe he worked just as plain' ol Steve Austin during his brief ECW run. (I thought I remember Joey Styles voicing over a quick clip of that in a "look-at-the-names-that-have-come-through-Philly-but-ain't-here-no-more" montage for an early episode of ECW on TNN.)

And he can't go back to the "Ringmaster" gimmick...I bet WWE's got that one locked up, too. :-)

It's a job. No matter if he was happy or sad, it's his job. People say he may have walked to not go through a crappy angle. That's not his call. He's paid to wrestle for the WWE.

I don't know. I like SCSA, but as of late, and not because of him leaving shows, I just wish he would leave. Watching him feud with the nWo was horrid. Watching him stunner everyone, Hall more times than I can recall, double stunners, defying all odds, then leaving the ring drinking beer and flipping everyone off. Every show. It makes his character boring, and with so many wrestlers that could put on entertaining matches instead of that, would be a very welcomed change.

I'd say fire him. Under NO circumstnaces should he be able to just walk out like that (unless they put him in a dangerous situation), but like you said Kawshen this is the SECOND time he's done this. Fire him.

Let's look at this thing realistically. How much power over his career does Steve Austin really have? None. There's no union to protect his interests. The wrestling business is so cutthroat, you won't see a walkout on his behalf because the 20 minutes of TV time Austin gets every week gets to go to someone else. Vince McMahon has a long history of vengeful acts against performers who do not follow his every whim.

Should Austin have to do whatever the writing team and bookers come up for him? Absolutely not. If his walk-out was over a request to job for Brock Lesnar, he should have every right to protest such a thing. Who is Brock Lesnar, and what has he done to deserve a win over the biggest star on Raw? It no doubt shoots Brock up the ladder, and Austin probably wouldn't be affected by it in terms of popularity, but storyline-wise, what's the point? Brock was feuding with Bubba Ray Dudley and Austin has his stupid feud with Flair. WWE has no long-term plans, and its obvious seeing how they completely negated the "brand extension" on Raw. Why should Austin trust a writing team that has failed on Invasion, Ric Flair as 50% owner, the NWO invasion, Hulkamania, and the brand extension?

My guess is that Austin is going on strike and will probably be happy to return when he receives a decent storyline.

In wrestling, all the wrestlers have are themselves...let McMahon try to sue him...and watch all of McMahon's former employees come out of the woodwork to talk about what a scumbag he is. Maybe this could even be the beginning of unionization.

Anyone who thinks Austin would ever join the Jarrett group is crazy. Anyone who thinks Vince would LET Austin join that group is crazier.

There is also no way that Vince would let Austin walk. He shit on Bruno long after his name meant anything anymore. He let Hogan go after he believed he squeezed every ounce of $$ out of him. Same applies to Savage, Piper and even Bret Hart. McMahon will never let a guaranteed money maker sit out for an extended period of time. Vince is a businessman. He wants to make money. With the Rock out, Austin is the only proven money making talet.

BDC, who is to say what a decent storyline is? With Austin lately, seemingly the only decent storylines have him drinking beer over someone on a weekly basis. To say he would return with a decent storyline implies that Austin is the sole rightful arbiter of what will and won't work. And while I will admit the writing has been so bad lately that maybe he should be in charge of these things, as of now he is not. Who is to say that, since we're all using this example, an Austin job to Lesnar doesn't jumpstary a hot feud between them for a few months, elevating Lesnar to main event status? Or is no one else allowed at that level since Austin is already there? If we go by the logic that the topcard guys should never job to someone "beneath" them, then we're going to see the same crop of guys on the top (UT, HHH, Hogan, Austin) until they all keel over dead. Sometimes things need to give in order to gain more in the long run, but it sounds like Austin is starting to become Bret Hart like in the level of markdom which he has towards his character.

I wrote this some where else but WHY would you give away the first match between Austin/Lesner on free tv with no hype??? That should be built up for months and put on ppv. Hell, if you want to give it away on free tv like Goldberg/Hogan give it a week's hype!! Why blow your load like that??? That's Vince Russo disease and an easy way to drive a company straight down.

This quote came from Tom Zenk. This was written the 7th, BEFORE all this took place...

Ever get the feeling Steve is feeling left out of the Hollywood scene? After all, how many wrestlers try to segue into movies once their career in wrestling looks like it’s over? Stink, Goldberg, Hogan, Piper.... the list goes on. Austin turned the company around for VKM; VKM kissed his ass for as long as he needed him. Now his body’s ruined and Austin isn’t getting the same quality attention from Vinnie. In fact, maybe Vinnie can't afford him any more, like Bret Hart? Any lie will do. I hope Austin is smart to what’s coming..... Remember how fast Foley disappeared?

Maybe, Austin is smartening up?

Why should he job to Brock? A guy whose been around two months. Brock has faced the Hardys, Stasiak and Buh Buh...straight to Austin. Where is the rest of the cannon fodder? Feed him Raven, Goldust, and Bradshaw.

You have to remember this, it's "GOLDBERG" that the crowd is chanting NOT "Brock". Brock looks lost in the ring at times, but he's big, he's got the look. So did Lex Luger and Billy Gunn and look where they ended up. Shouldn't the guy have to prove his worth first?

I love how everyone wants to throw stones at Austin for walking out. It's the same group that throws them at Vince for *screwing* Bret or for being the evil puppeteer behind the wrestling business.

Austin's right the storylines suck. Whether or not they should feature him is another matter. This coming Smackdown looks to be no better. For once I'll agree with SK on his opening of the RAW Rant...

Get out, Steve. Get out while you can and stay out. Put your millions of dollars into a nice long-term investment plan, buy a house somewhere comfortable, and get out now while you’re still able to walk on your own two feet and still in control of your own career. Be unprofessional, be selfish, bite the hand that feeds you, let down the fans. I don’t care. I’m one of your biggest fans and you won’t let me down at all, because I can what’s coming if you stay, and it’s gonna be “Vince McMahon makes Steve Austin into the biggest martyr since Bret Hart”, and I don’t want to see that. I’ve already had one hero destroyed by a failing company, I don’t need another one. I don’t want another Dynamite Kid, a guy hanging on so long past his physical prime that he’s in a wheelchair and forgotten. I have tapes, I have memories. Find what makes you happy and do it, because obviously this company is no longer that thing, and I’d rather live without Austin than live with an unmotivated Austin. It was a good run, a great run, the best run…but it’s over, and I don’t want to be watching a humilated Rattlesnake in the midcard, fighting hasbeens and neverweres and waiting for the writers to come up with something good again. Because they won’t. And I can’t help but feel if you come back, we’ll all just be disappointed all over again. Or worse, we’ll be talking about where we were the day that Steve Austin got screwed.

Austin isn't soley to blame here, and for those who demand him to vanish, I can only laugh. Here's a guy that can still put on a 5 star match and still be creative and entertaining when givin the chance.

I fully expect the tune of this board to change when we get Triple H crammed down our throat whether we like it or not, and don't think that it's not coming.

You know... I'm starting to agree. That paragraph of the RAW Rant really put things in another perspective for me.

Sure, it's A Very Bad Thing to walk out on the company that made you a name. But we all know the storylines have been crap, and desperation makes people do some really, really stupid things.

But then again, who's not to say that some really, really stupid things didn't happen on RAW anyway? What the hell was the point of writing Flair out of the ownership storyline? The thing is, I knew it was coming as soon as the match was announced-- I knew Vinnie Mac was going to win, of course, as did everyone else watching.

Absolute bullshit.

I agree. Steve Austin can't be the sole decision-maker on what is a good storyline for him. However, I think if he doesn't like what they come up with, its up to the writing team, Vince McMahon and whoever else has influence over Austin to convince him that the things that matter to him--whatever those are--will be enhanced through such a storyline.

It's funny...last week I started a post in regards to McMahon's appearance on Byte This where I thought that his comments about Steve Austin rang so eerily to me that the vibe I got from McMahon was that he was going to treat Austin like he treated Bret Hart. Seems like a lot of people have gotten that feeling as well.
