I've never liked Jerry "The King" Lawler. When he was replaced with Heyman, I was very pleased, and enjoyed my Monday nights to a greater extent than I have before that time or since then. Lawler is a immature, one-note pervert who brings nothing to the table and serves only to bring down the hard work of the woman's division. I realize that the writers are equally to blame; saddling Molly with such an asinine gimmick (so she's against the T&A of the Divas because she's an "ugly virgin"? What crap! Wouldn't want her to, I dunno, have a valid point or anything, so they go to the character assasination. Be nice if as champ she had moved on to talking to Vince about his drooling sex-fiend antics) and putting Trish in stupid matches against Terri in their underwear are no better.

But it's Lawler who the people see and hear, and who's voice is supposed to represent the WWE to some extent. Hearing him blabber on about his sad love life and Molly's supposedly large ass is degrading and insulting not only to her, but to any woman who has ever wrestled. He just really pissed me off, and they REALLY need to do a segment where Molly kicks the dogsh*t out of him. I feel sorry for her when she went back and watched the show, and heard those crass and stupid comments.

You realize that's all just an act, right? And that he's supposed to say those things? I suppose every face he's accused of cheating or badmouthed also should be insulted, along with every other babyface who has ever wrestled in the history of the sport, because those comments obviously apply to them, too. He also used to say a lot of horrible things about the Hart family. So I suppose that's an insult not only to them, but also every Canadian and eldery person in the world, as well as every Canadian wrestler who is now old. Add to that every other eldery wrestler and every single Candian wrestler, too (yes, that means CHRIS BENOIT!!!!). Wait. Helen Hart recently died, so his comments are also insulting to every person who has ever died or will die.

Man, the whole WORLD should feel insulted and degraded by Jerry Lawler's comments.

I repeat: The whole thing is just an act.

It is an act, but it's an annoying, pointless act. And it would be nice to have a commentator who actually comments on the match ocassionally, instead of screaming about tits (which completely downplays the much-improved womens division.)

And there's something disturbing about Terri "I Wouldn't Fuck Her With A Stolen Dick" Runnels being part of the verbal attack on the infinitely hotter Molly Holly. (Of course, I also am sick to death of every chick who doesn't look like she's from fucking Somalia being labeled as fat, too, so...)

Lawler goes with what they give him. Period. And I was a fan of Heyman's, when he replaced Lawler, but to be honest....

I kinda' like Lawler now. Lawler in my mind always put the right people over. He's always been a big, vocal suppporter of Angle (not lately, because of the split from hell), and basically I think he and JR have chemistry that Heyman and JR lacked. There's something about these two being old friends and their little side jokes. You got the feeling that when JR and Heyman went off on each other (while being funny) that it was REAL. A little too real. Sure, there's things I ahte about Lawler ("Latino Heeeat" and "Puppies"), but dammit, I innately like the guy.

IF you're going to blame anyone in this "Molly got a big ole' butt" storyline, blame Trish! She said it first!

The WWE needs to replace Lawler and JR. They are both old and stale. I am suprised that Vince buy any decent wrestler out there so our competitors can't get them McMahon has not already signed Joey Styles. When JR retires or gets fired again is Cole and Tazz really going to take over? Or the Coach? The WWE needs to start to think what it will do in the future.

Joey Styles? The guy who did nothing but make up cutesy names for basic moves and yelled "Oh my God!" every five seconds? I'm not a huge Lawler fan, but at least Lawler is occasionally funny--doesn't happen often, but it happens.

I'd replace him with Don Callis, provided that Callis was only an announcer and not involved in any other kind of angle. He was great in ECW before the "corporate" angle started.

I really think Ross could do better if he were allowed to, though that doesn't explain his numerous mistakes. I think he has to put so much energy into the "JR" persona that he can't focus on the actual work of announcing. But what do I know, I quit watching after the WWF became the WWE....

I like to say that the Heyman/Ross combo was AWESOME. The way Paul E. constantly pissed JR off was just damn priceless. My only beef was his constant screaming and incessant shilling of the ECW alumns.

Someone mentioned Joey Styles. Put him on SD with Tazz and send that damn Michael Cole in the damn backstage area. He's so damn clueless and can't call a damn match for more than 3 damn minutes.

Plus I kinda miss Joey's screeching. :)

You know whose commentating I dug? CROWBAR's! He was really good at calling the play by play and did it in a pretty cool imitation (homage???) of Gordon Solie.

"All born equal unless you're Canadian
Then halfway through decay like Uranium
You define what's death-defying
Get the most out of life or at the least die trying
Are you Evil Knievel jumping a train?
Or running with scissors like Frasier Crane?
Have really good times doing really bad things
‘Cause the show ain't over ‘til the fat lady sings
Like Elton John with his candle in the wind
It's hard to blow out a flame as big as him
But we've all got to Wang Chung with the Grim Reaper
Whether you're Einstein whether you're Beaker
Death is certain so it's definitely worth flirtin'

Lawler says what he says to get exactly ONE person over: Lawler. Sure, Heyman pushed the ECW guys too much, but at least he tried to get *some* wrestlers over instead of worrying about his own place in the company.

But that's the thing. There's supposed to be a face commentator and a heel commentator. And Lawler is in no way a heel commentator, no matter how many times he talks about LATINO HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAT. It's the same problem on Smackdown. Tazz was supposed to be a heel. What ever happened to that? And if the animosity between JR and Heyman is real, so much the better. They're not very good actors, so having it be real is probably the best way to have it *seem* real.

Heyman probably would have been better if he'd just been an announcer and not also involved in the Invasion angle. Still, I found him annoying, and it wasn't heel heat annoying, it was X-Pac annoying. He probably should stay in the manager role if he's going to be in front of the camera at all.

WWE doesn't need to screw with the announce teams, they need to screw with the crap that the wrestlers put out. Next week's show is going to suck, they probably won't start writing it until Monday. What can Lawler do about that? Lawler's going to have commentate and bring heat to matches that no one is going to care about. By the way, what story lines does RAW even have now?

The sad part is that the best announcers are wrestling right now. Ivory, Raven, Stevie Richards, and Al Snow come to mind off the top of my head.

Edit: What really scares me about Lawler is his constant pervert comments. He now reminds me of a dirty old man and just skeeves me out.

Check out Lawler's track record ( and criminal record for that matter ) with young and I mean very young girls and you will see that the pervert part ain't no act.

Lawler and Vince have gotten to the point that my girlfriend will not watch wrestling with me any longer. This can't be a good thing for ratings. Does dirty old man Vince bring more ratings than he loses viewers with this act?

If my girlfriend won't watch the show... it limits my ability to watch it. This is a bad thing.

My wife feels the same way about Lawler. She calls him,"That puppy guy." Wrestling will always be a male domintated show but they should try to at least not piss the female half of the world off. Plus all the stupid immature crap that only 15 year old virgins like. I am 30 and find shit like Dreamer's puke bucket and Molly's ass annoying. Much less things like the KMA club and Trish barking like a dog.

I will say that Lwaler's act does turn off some. I know I can't watch a woman's match with a female at my house because of him. All we hear is..."Puppies! Puppies!" It sucks when one of the best matches of the night has to be accompanied with that crap.

Heyman actually got storylines over, he actually helped the show. He actually helped JR in calling a match. Lawler does none of that. That is my main beef, he does not contribute anything at all. I am sure he is fun to be around and probably a great guy backstage, but Heyman was much better.

But let's face the facts, Lawler is going nowhere. WWE is doing nothing but looking to the past to help the current product. Heaven forbid that they try something new! Everytime try something new and it doesn't mean immediate success, they kill it.

I actually put out the idea when Trish won the title to go to Smackdown and have a talk with Stacy about not making the same mistakes she did. Stacy could tell her to mind her business gets in a mini-feud with Trish and then after Trish beats Stacy Vince could bring in a real challenge Ivory to have a mini-feud with Trish... But the WWE felt that the orginal idea of "Hey I'm going to steal your spotlight by showing off my underwear" storyline

As for Lawler, I'll give him one thing, he's witty and humourous at times. He does have some quick lines from time to time, like Raw when Dreamer threw the vomit bucket at an NWO memeber and Lawler questioned "Did a clown throw up in it?"... J.R & Lawler does have a nice familiarity with each other, and great at setting each other up, they make it look so easily. Actually Lawler without JR is really bad and take away the few positives he brings, I like the JR "persona" so I think he's great.

As for negatives, he doesn't get anything over at all, wrestler or moves... And most obvious the poor women, he just doesn't care. He looks at them all the same, doesn't look at them as individuals it's just a bunch of women. 3 years ago I could live with it, when we have Terri, Kat, BB and Debra they were all one in the same. I think the majority of the girls now deserve more respect as individuals.

As for the Heyman/Lawler comparasion, Heyman got over Rhyno and his move like crazy "Gore, Gore, Gore" so much that the crowd started standing up and screaming when it's set up, making every Rhyno match that much better. While Lawelr got a degrading women chant "we want puppies" over... As a JR fan I liked him also working with Heyman, it was a much bumpy ride listening to King/JR but that's not nesessary a bad thing. I enjoyed Heyman really getting to JR.

As for replacing announcers. I think you have to do somethign with Smackdown. Atleast JR/KIng gives you a few giggles once or twice a show but you get nothing on SD. The only time something witty is said on SD it has to come from the wrestlers. I'd love to see Styles/Cyrus inserted at SD. But I wouldn't lose any sleep if Lawler is replaced, but I'd be really happy if we at home have a buzzer and can electro shock him every time he says puppies or comments on tits during a real match.

Lawler grates my nevers at times.

He seems to have 2 modes...Witty...and "Puppies."

More often than not, he's on "puppies" mode.

See, everyone now seems to think you need a face and heel announcer...not true. All you need is a Straight guy and a Color guy.

Granted, in wrestling, the color guy is usually in support of the heels (Think Bobby Heenan, Jesse Ventura)

Now Lawler is the color guy. And JR is the Straight guy. But I think the WWE has directed JR to be the "Face Shiller" while Lawler gets to be "Heel sympathizer (not so much supporter, just sympathize) and T&A shiller"

Granted, JR and Lawler do have a natural chemistry with eachother, but I think that just has to do with the fact that they have worked together for so long.

I think it may be time to get some commentators that are as good as Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan. These guys would call matches, and the Color guy (Heenan) would nto only support the heels, but would also throw out some wit that would have me laughing for a while. Even in Heenan's last days with WCW he had me rolling.

Bah, but what do I know?
