Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin pardons Tom the Turkey, then talks politics to a news crew.
What she does not know is that at least two helpless turkeys are being slaughtered alive right behind her, their legs wiggling as their heads are stuffed into a grinder. This poor lady cant catch a break!
At this point she is one of the prime GOP voices out there. Rasmussen had a poll that showed over 60% of GOP voters want her to be the nominee in 2012. Bush is on his way out. McCain is spent. McConnell is the leader of a rapidly declining minority in the Senate. Jindal is still up and coming. Barbour is too much of an inside player to be the national voice. So who do the Republicans put out as their national voice. Right now Palin has the name recognition, the governor's job, the devotion of a good chunk of the GOP faithful, and the charisma to attract attention.
Scary as it might be, she's kind of the de facto #1 GOP'er after Jan. 20, at least for the time being.

The problem is that the Republican party now only comprises about 40% of voters. That means, give or take, only 24% of the electorate likes her. This could change but right now the base isn't enough.
I agree with reasonable coverage of her but she is to easy a target and if you are the"liberal media" why do this and garner her sympathy.
I found this way funnier without the "Krazy Kaptions". The guy in the background looking over to the camera and his, "You're really going to shoot me doing this?" reaction as the turkey's legs are kicking was hilarious.

Actually the best comment here. All of us carnivores should see slaughter of what we eat at least once. In Ohio, we would pick the steer and the butcher came out, put a slug in its brain, hoisted it up, skinned and gutted it and threw the quarters in the back of your pick up. You then took it to the processing plant. Unfortunately laws were tightened up and it is no longer done. While i don't hunt, I admire the hunters who do and then eat their quarry.

Circle of life baby.
Amen! And slaughtering season can't come soon enough.
Sometime within the next couple of weeks, we'll cut the 2 older steers, the 2 freemartins, and the heifer with a hernia out of the herd and put them in a different barn. Once they're there, each of them will receive a .223 to the head and then we'll start the butchering process. We'll gut them (makes great coyote bait), skin them, and eventually cut them into halves, toss them on the back of the pickup truck, and take to the processing plant.
All 3 of my kids can tell you exactly where the beef that they eat comes from, even the 3 year old, and our 2 older ones want to come and help with the slaughtering this year. Our oldest daughter wants her 6th grade class to come to the farm as a science field trip so that all of the kids can see us slaughter.
As for Governor Palin, good for her that she ceremonially pardoned Tom and boo to MSNBC for trying to make something out of nothing.

I have to admit that's kind of funny. Has nothing to do with her, and it would have been funny no matter who it was.
I thought it was interesting at our local farm store's "Turkey Shoot" where you try to guess the weight of a live turkey that resides in the store up to Thanksgiving, the prize is a butterball, not the turkey itself. I asked and apparently that wouldn't go over very well (I got the impression that it was because the turkey was a pet).

When I was a young'un, a Turkey Shoot involved dice, and was basically a one person horse race (googling implies that my young'un years were drunken; think the drinking game, without the drinking). I'm pretty sure I won, but damned if I remember the turkey. That's okay, because a) it's better for my pysche, to not be directly causing the purchase and consumption of an animal and b) turkey is honestly not that good of a meat. It is dry and flavorless. Is it just me???
It is the policy of the documentary crew to remain true observers and not interfere with its subjects.
If you wanna reach the Co-op, boy, you gotta get by me.

It could be that when you have turkey it's been overcooked, so I would invest in some cold cuts (I'm addicted to mesquite roasted turkey, thin sliced, from anyone) just to give it a try when cooked professionally.
On the other hand, given my mom's apparent lack of cooking prowess, I prefer dry turkey at Thanksgiving. It's comfort food, what can I say? I also prefer Kraft mac & cheese to homemade.

The funniest part of the video, for me, was Gov. Palin's answer when asked about "any future plans." I don't know how to say it any more kindly than that she sounds like an 8th grader sometimes.

Now that's just being mean. Stop insulting 8th graders.
