With the stimulus check coming, and my mother-in-law's continued computer problems, I've decided to get a new computer, and give her our current one (which has no problems, and I know how to fix anything that comes up).
So my question is, would I be better off getting a computer from Best Buy, Circuit City, or somewhere similar or get a friend of mine to build me a computer?
Is it relatively the same price to build your own vs buying pre-built?

For most basic computers, it's going to be comparable, if not cheaper just to buy the computer.
If you're talking about some special items like exotic, water cooled cases, or extra large power supplies, then you might be interested in the build your own route. Stuff like that can get pricy either way.
Hey, I've got a problem with my computer display, and since I haven't been able to find a solution anywhere else on the internet, I figured I'd give you guys a try. I get these black horizontal lines across my monitor every time I turn the monitor on.
