I know it's a few days late, but I wanted to get people's thoughts on the first episode, if you saw it. It was billed as something completely different than anything on TV right now, and I gotta agree. The color scheme, the shots....gotta give director Barry Sonnenfeld credit, he did a great job. And while the plot isn't the strongest, they made it work and more importantly, made it FUN. It was full of whimsy and wonder, if you will.

I don't know how long they can keep it up, but I'll be watching.

I liked it a lot. Visually (and aurally too, to an extent) it felt like it was something you'd expect from a Dr. Seuss movie. I think I remember reading that they've gone way over budget for the season already, and it sure does show it. Love the narration too.

I think the story is kinda interesting. How long can they go without having the romantic leads get together? Their longing is palpable and pretty sad. I'm glad that I wasn't let down because I had very high hopes for this show.

I spent all day Wednesday looking for the awesome and then I sat down at 7:00 central and I found it all on ABC. Incredible pilot, not that I'd expect less from Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls) and his wit mixed with the brilliant visuals floored me. Instant season pass.

This is the kind of show that ABC wouldn't put on the air unless Fuller was able to give them 12-13 good story ideas about where to take this premise, so I don't we have to worry about it running out of steam creatively for a while.

I'm just curious to know how Ned has managed to go 18 years without ever even accidentally making contact with his dog.

My wife loved the show, but that's bugged her over the last few days as well. "Why didn't he touch him on the way back home after he brought him back to life." Grrrrr.

I let that one go. If I can accept the premise, I can accept that he didn't touch his dog all that time. I just was thinking that Digby's pretty old for a dog. Does Ned's touch also grant immortality as long as he doesn't touch them a second time? Maybe they can't die of natural causes?

I loved the show because it's like nothing else on TV. (It's a LOT like several books and movies, but that's beside the point.) I was worried that the whimsical feel of the show would turn a lot of people off, but I'm hearing mostly positive reaction.

The reveal of why Chuck's aunt couldn't see her was fabulous. And "Bitch, I was in proximity!" had me rolling.

There's nothing else on Wednesdays at 8, but even if there were, this would be my appointment TV.

I think it's definitely something like that. Maybe not immortality but they just don't age anymore. In the beginning of the first episode the narrator says the dog is so and so age and "not a minute more". So even though Ned brought his dog back to life I think the dog is still whatever age the narrator said.

I also have a theory about who dies when you leave somebody alive for 60 seconds. Instead of somebody in proximity I think it was the last person who touched them.
Examples:
- Ned brings back the dog a squirrel dies, the dog could've been chasing the squirrel and touched it.
- Ned brings back a fly and his mom dies, the narrator didn't connect the two but it could've happened that way and since the mom swatted the fly it would be easy to think the fly touched her at some point.
- Ned brings back Chuck and the funeral owner dies. They showed that the funeral owner often takes jewelry off the deceased so it'd be easy to see him touching her for some reason.

Of course if this is true this also means the last person to touch Ned's mom was Chuck's dad. Was it a friendly touch or an affair maybe?

Anyway, this is a fantastic show. Easily the best show so far and that's saying something because I actually like some of the others (Chuck and Reaper) quite well.

Sadly, I think this is one of those shows that's so good that you'll only be able to see the last four episodes on DVD. Of course, I felt that way about LOST and Arrested Development (which got about three seasons more than I thought it would), so let's all knock on wood.

I just caught this at ABC.com. It was really really good. I don't remember any other show being in this format. It definitely worked for the first episode, hopefully it doesn't get old. The story, while not the most original in the world, has enough little quirks to make it very unique. I will definitely try to keep up with this one even though I'll never be able to watch it live. But, that's what weekends are for.

I had that same feeling. It might be TOO good for network TV.

It had a real Tim Burton (back when he was awesome) feel to it for me, and that's not a bad thing.

Very good pilot, and unquestionably the best of the new series that I have watched, which includes Bionic Woman, Dirty Sexy Money, Cavemen (I know), Chuck, and Carpoolers.

I caught this for the first time last night and I loved it. I'm going to have to hunt down the first episode on TV. Not seeing the first episode, let me ask you this: did Kristen Chenoweth sing in the first episode too? If she did, this show will be required viewing.

She did not, but don't let that dissuade you from watching the first ep.

I'll try to catch it on abc.com after I get off work. I think this one will get a season pass from me too.

My favorite line of the night was "and Digby, being a fan of salt..."

I don't know what it is, but there's some sort of resistance with me getting into Pushing Daisies. I've seen the first two episodes but it's not clicking for me. I'm not sure why. I love Bryan Fuller's last two series, Wonderfalls, and Dead Like Me. I like classic Tim Burton, which this show apes, along with the Addams Family movies. I like Lee Pace, who was Carolyn Dhavernas's older brother in Wonderfalls.

But I feel exactly like the only character who I like and relate to: the old black guy who runs the morgue.

As I watch this show, every few minutes in my head, I go "Mmm hmmmm."

I don't mind the show, but the narration has got to go. It distances me from the characters and plot -- and sometimes just serves as a crutch. I can understand why the "pie-lette" needed a narration to sell the premise, but the plot needs to stand on its own at some point.

The narration of "untouchable" love is gonna to get old quick.

It's kind of like the office guy who shows up with extensive power-point and then insists on reading it all at you. I can read.

Boy, I couldn't disagree more. I love the Jim Dale narration. It adds to the fairy-tale aspect of the show and they've already started playing around with the narrator cracking jokes and such. I could see Dale's role becoming like that of Ron Howard on Arrested Development.

I am quite happy to report that I was totally wrong. This is the only new show I've managed to stick with this far into the season.

It just keeps getting better and better.

This week had the best televised tribute to They Might Be Giants since Tiny Toon Adventures.

Their world seems like a really nice place to live. I would love to visit NARM. :)

I agree. I think Chenoweth and Greene should sing every week. I want there to be a plot reason for Ellen Greene to have to sing "Somewhere That's Green". That'd be awesome.

At your recommendation, I just read a summary of the plot of Pygmalion and I think that will be perfect. Thanks a lot.
