Here's Shaun Assael's ESPN story: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2998062

WWE did not release the names of those suspended. A source close to the investigation said that WWE was told that the following wrestlers were among the clients of one of the pharmacies under investigation, Signature of Orlando: Shoichi Funaki, Dave Bautista, Adam "Edge" Copeland, Chris "Masters" Mordetsky, John "Johnny Nitro" Hennigan, and Shane Helms. Chris Benoit, the wrestler who killed his wife and son before hanging himself in June, was also a Signature client, as were two other wrestlers who recently died, Eddie Guerrero and Brian "Crush" Adams.

And how stupid does Chris Masters have to be to get caught AGAIN? Did he think no one would notice that he walked in one day looking like a human Creatine ad, magically lost his physique the next day, and then magically got it back the day after?

Not to defend the guy, but what do you expect when HHH & Vince make fun of his diminished physique on live TV, not to mention (reportedly) HHH & Edge dogging him backstage and/or in production meetings?

WWE wrestlers are so screwed this time

Dave@wrestlingobserver.com

Sports Illustrated has received information on the drugs and dates received by various WWE wrestlers, all of whom fall after the institution of the Wellness policy.

Based on these dates, the entire policy's credibility is shot in the sense there were detectable drugs purchased by talent through Internet doctors, a practice banned by the company's Wellness policy.

In addition, Ken Anderson (Mr. Kennedy) comes across like a complete fool becasue his last package was sent in February, one full year after he claimed to have gotten clean due to the Policy. Between October 2006 and February 2007, Anderson received Anastrozole (which is not a steroid, but used to counter affects of steroids such as development of female breast tissue), Somatropin (a Growth Hormone) and testosterone (an anabolic steroid).

Others listed in the article were:

Chris Benoit receiving Nandrolone and Anastrozole in February 2006.

Eddy Guerrero receiving Nandrolone, Testosterone and Anastrozole two weeks before his death.

Chavo Guerrero receiving many drugs, including Somatropin, Nandrolone and Anastrozole as late as May 2006.

Shane Helms receiveing testosterone, Genotropin (Growth Hormone) and Nandralone as late as February 2007.

Randy Orton receiving Somatropin, Nandrolone and Stanazolol as late as February 2007.

John Hennigan aka John Morrison getting Somatropin, Anastrozole, Testosterone, Stanazolol and HCG as late as February 2007.

Shoichi Funaki receiving Somatropin in March 2006.

Brian Adams received Nandrolone, Testosterone and Somatropin in December.

Charlie Haas received Aanstrozole, Somatropin, Stanazolol, Nandrolone and HCG as late as January

Edward Fatu (Umaga) received Somatropin as late as December.

Darren Matthews (William Regal) recieved Stanozolol, Somatropin, Genotropin and Anastrozole as late as November.

Adam Copeland received Somatropin, Genotropin and Stanazolol as late as February. This must have included new evidence because government evidence on Copeland received by the Observer in May listed Copeland as not having received anything doctors were under investigation for in several years.

Sylvan Grenier received Somatropin, Nandrolone, Genotropin and Stanazolol as late as July 2006. Grenier has was fired by the company two weeks ago for unrelated reasons.

The company by the wording of its policy would be forced to suspend these wrestlers, aside from Benoit and Guerrero, because this would indicate flagrant violations of the policy after implementation.

The company suspended ten wrestlers, but this list only includes nine active wrestlers, two of whom, Helms and Copeland, are out indefinitely due to injuries.

Orton, Morrison, Matthews and Fatu were all key characters on television. Given the nature of the television as late as Tuesday, WWE could not have made the decision to suspend until Wednesday at the earliest, and most likely the decision was made this morning.

Chavo's real first name is Salvador, like his father and grandfather.

Damn. How sad is it when you see Funaki and William Regal on the list? Those would be two of the LAST guys I'd expect to be on the list.

This point can't be made too often - it's not just the jacked up monsters who may are taking, it's everyone.

(I type this while watching Phil Mickelson and the PTI guys are all "drug test in golfing?!?!? Hahaha, no one here has a bodybuilder physique!", which is awesome.)

I was thinking Regal could start RAW by suspending Orton for kicking John Sr. in the head and also being hopped up on goofballs, but then I can't figure out how Regal suspends himself.

Exactly. People see Batista and they think that he's what a guy on steroids looks like. In actuality, Batista is what a hard-working genetic freak on steroids looks like. Roddy Piper and Jake Roberts have both admitted to using steroids in WWE in the 80's, and neither of them had bodybuilder physiques. Jamie Noble was fired from WWE a few years ago when he filed an insurance claim wherein he essentially confessed to using steroids.

Having said that, it's entirely possible for a WWE wrestler to fail a drug test due to excessive painkiller use, though the published lists indicate that all these guys were, in fact, ordering steroids.

That's a rough break for Funaki. His last package came only a month after the Wellness Policy went into effect, but that's still recent enough to net him a suspension.

So to sum up the SI list via Meltzer, the 10 appear to break down:

Raw - Orton, Kennedy, Umaga, Regal, Haas.
SD - Chavo, Funaki.
ECW - Morrison.
Injured - Edge, Helms.

Linked to Signature Pharmacy, but apparently no transactions since Feb '06 - Batista, Booker, Santino, Masters, Simon Dean.

And don't forget Rey Mysterio is linked to the Dr. Astin investigation.

Again, these suspensions are only based on information from the State's Attorney in Albany, this has nothing whatsoever to do with WWE's in-house testing. Other than (as has been pointed out) the fact that WWE's testing didn't catch any of them, so what does that say about the testing?

Even 20 minutes notice that a test is coming would allow someone to take a masking agent, and there is also the "I can take as many steroids as Benoit was getting if I have a prescription" loophole.

So (IMO) it's not so much that "The Champ is Clean", as it's "The Testing is Flawed". I'm guessing Linda will occupy the chair next to Jerry McDevitt in Washington.

If those are the ten who are immediately suspended, this will give the WWE to finally give us some fresh faces and angles. Of course, fresh faces and angles take a while to build up so they are going to have to bite the bullet financially for a while.

I don't know why they don't announce who is suspended because it will be obvious by the wrestlers who are missing the shows. It could be because of legal reasons and the upcoming lawsuits.

Another choice I guess is these suspensions could be delayed like baseball does.

The difference here is that there's no collective bargaining agreement between a union and management that calls for the suspension to be delayed until your appeal is heard. You work for WWE, you play by their rules; the only reason to dely a suspension would be for storyline reasons, and then you're basically saying "we'll suspend you, but not if you're in an angle crucial to a PPV."

I'll mirror the standard "it's about time" sentiment, and add the morbid idea that my interest in next week's Raw has now skyrocketed.

With Shane McMahon already scheduled to appear on the next Raw, I figure he probably ends up in a match for the next PPV, just to fill in a spot and give them one more "name". Perhaps this will also lead to a bit more attention to the tag belts, as we were talking about on another thread.

And if there ever was a time for WWE to try to bring back some names, this is it. Chris Jericho, for example, could easily be plugged into a main event feud--there has been some talk about him returning, so maybe it will happen. Lesnar and Goldberg obviously are far from likely. Anyone else who would make sense?

Perhaps some of the lower-card veteran guys--Shelton Benjamin, let's say--should be put into the ECW title picture. It's pretty barren in terms of names, and with all that's going on they're obviously not going to be able to move anyone really big there.

Color me embarrassed for the Cena/Haas statement. I am really looking forward to see how this all plays out. I guess the question I have is whether or not WWE suspends wrestlers for the amount of time based on the policy and number of infractions or will they have to keep these guys off TV indefinitely as a PR move? It is going to be real interesting next week.

Really? You think Jericho returning and Benjamin to ECW are THAT outlandish? It's not as though I said they were locks, just things they SHOULD do (or try to do, in the former case).

Question: Anyone forsee any of the suspened and publicly embarassed guys turning on Vince and ratting him and the company out for their hypocritical stance due to all of this?

Also, didn't Triple H publicly state a few years ago (in either an interview or his book? I forget) that there's nothing wrong with steroid abuse?

I can't remember specifics (I was only 10 or so), but wasn't one of the problems with the original steroid trial from 94 that there wasn't enough testimony from employees and witnesses for the jury to convict him?

I believe he said that they weren't as bad as people made them out to be, that they "weren't like heroin" or something.

The best case scenario they could work if Regal gets suspended is to put in Sandman as the GM. He claims he was gypped out of the position in the Battle Royal with Regal playing "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" outside the ring and jumping in at the last second after Sandman had won.

Either that or have Sandman beat the piss out of him and just take the spot back. Regal's "out of commission" for the duration of his suspension, he comes back and there's a brief Regal/Sandman feud.

That would be probably one of the easiest storyline explanations to work with in terms of the suspensions.

RAW definitely has its work cut out for them with nearly every top-tier talent besides Cena being suspended.

The only two that are left that are the top-tier guys are Cena and Triple H. *groans* And I think we've all seen more than enough of both. Sure, The H has been out for some time, but I was just hoping we all got a reprieve for a little while before RAW became the Triple H show once again.

Ideally, I'd love to see Shelton Benjamin, Cody Rhodes, and Jeff Hardy get a push on RAW. They're probably two of the only mid-carders left that have been given enough TV time to have a reasonable elevation to main eventer status besides Carlito.

Looks like it's time that Val Venis got that push out of Jobberville!

Not unless they get fired. People still employed by the company simply don't speak critically of the company when it comes to serious issues like this.

Has the Length of the suspension been announced? In the WWE 2 weeks is a lot of time of according the them. What was Orton's punishment when he went Roid Rage in a hotel room in Europe?
