Is there anywhere he can go, start, and have a good shot of winning? I mean, clearly, he's not going to just up and let Green Bay trade him to Houston or whatever, but there's kind of a lack of teams needing a big name quarterback in playoff reach right now.
Jacksonville, maybe? Dallas? Chicago is the obvious one, but I couldn't see them letting him stay in their division. He probably should've just kept his mouth shut, beat Marino's record and retired.

Most teams have QB's. The 3 most obvious choices are the other NFC North teams, and the Packers aren't trading him in the division. The NFC East is set if Gibbs likes Campbell, the South is set and the West is set. The Dolphins could be a possibility in the AFC East, but that might mean Favre taking a spot from a member of the Ginn family. The Ravens could be a possibility in the AFC North, but, it doesn't matter since the offense will still suck. The Jaguars might be a possibility in the South, and the only team without a QB and in contention in the AFC West is the Chiefs, and I can't see Favre and Herm Edwards meshing. Thus, not many landing places for Favre.

If any team would be stupid enough to have him, besides the Packers, it's the Dolphins.
I'm usually the first person in line to bash Brett Favre. For some reason he has never endeared himself to me as much as he seems to have endeared himself to the rest of the universe. Having said that though, I've come to realize that a great deal of the blame for his subpar stats from the past couple of years needs to be placed on the pathetic supporting cast the Packers have placed around him. Favre may force the ball WAAAAAAAAAYYYY more than he needs to, but perhaps he would be doing that less if he had 1) a running attack worth respecting, 2) multiple receivers worth a damn, 3) better blocking, or 4) all of the above.
I'm still not going to be rooting for the guy any time soon, and I continue to be tired of his off-field antics, but I'm pretty sure him playing for Chicago would make them a Super Bowl favorite.
The original article is Jay Glazer's @ foxsports.com, and now Favre's backtracking. According to that story, it sounds like Favre was his own leak. Either he's trying to play along now, or the trade market for him hasn't been there and he knows he's stuck.
Favre to Chicago is a non-starter. Besides it being unfathomable to both teams and a trade in the division, the Bears still seem to believe they can win it all with Rex. They may be wrong, but they're not giving up quite yet.
I'm not as close to the Jaguars, but I think, because they passed on QBs in the draft, they believe they still have a good enough QB there. Who is is, I dunno.
Unless Favre is a superior holder, I think Dallas will pass too.
(What kind of Packer fan/owner doesn't have "Favre" in his dictionary?)
Favre should not only retire, he should have retired three years ago. What's he got left? What's so important that he's gonna hang on so long past his prime? And is he simply in denial, or is he in it for the money at this point? Not that I can imagine he's on the verge of poverty or anything.

I would guess that he's just having a hard time imagining life as Brett Favre, ex-QB. And once he hangs 'em up, he knows there's no coming back. The record may hold some incentive, but maybe he just likes the business, the competing on game Sundays?
And it's not like he's the first (or last) to possibly hang around longer than maybe an icon should have - see Joe Montana.. Kansas City Chiefs, Joe Namath.. Los Angeles Rams, and Johnny Unitas.. San Diego Chargers as examples. At least if he can hang with the Packers, he gets something of a bonus when they write his place in history.

As a DolFan, I'll take him if you'll take Culpepper in return....

Do you hear that thudding sound? That's me banging my head on my desk at the thought of another year of Grossman finding new and ever more spectacular ways to screw games up. I'm nearly to the point where I would rather have Kyle Orton and his swanky neckbeard behind center.
I'd take Favre in a heartbeat. It would mean every Bears game is on national tv and we'd get to hear how he's just like a big kid out there every week!

I'd argue somewhat with the Joe Montana ref there, as he certainly proved he had plenty of ability left when he went to K.C. San Fran just had Young sitting there though so they could afford to get rid of him.
This is where you know the Packers screwed themselves. Aaron Rogers isn't any good. I don't have any special knowledge of this, though I've read rumors in the past. But if he really was a good QB, they would have forced Favre to retire or traded him, just as San Francisco did with Montana.
Problem is they took a chance by drafting Rogers and missed. Had they gotten someone great, Favre would be gone by now. But since they didn't, they certainly can't turn around and justify taking another QB when this one hasn't even gotten to play yet. They can't trade for similar reasons. So they're screwed. Totally and completely screwed until Favre decides he's done.
Normally I'd agree that it's probably time for Favre to go, and Packers management isn't entirely wrong for wanting to move on with the post-Favre era. The problem is that Ted Thompson is an awful GM. I'd rather Favre stay at QB and Thompson get the early retirement.

The Grossman hate continues to be overhyped. Grossman's interception numbers suck for the same reason Favre's does. Sure he forces a lot, like Favre but neither has a receiving core worth a damn. Muhammed is not a number one receiver and Berrian is a fourth stringer. Get Rex some guys who can actually catch. Also it was Rex's first full season so I'm not sure why people expect him to be a Pro Bowl quarterback already. As far as first seasons go his interceptions weren't any worse than Peyton Manning's first season.

Speaking as a Detroiter....
BWAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAAAAA!! AHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAAA! Oh, oh man. Seriously, just, no. Besides it's Favre, he'd probably get killed by the 5 or so remaining fans of the Lions from the '90s who remember he single-handedly kept our good teams from making it through the playoffs. Him and the friggin' Redskins.
See, that's why I agree with Favre's* complaint that led to this trade demand - NFC North is still a bad division.
Lions and Vikings only have playoff chances in the sense that everyone in the NFL has a chance at making the playoffs, and the Bears sure are not a steady bet. The Packers, with a young team outside of QB, went 8-8 last season. It's reasonable to figure a slightly improved team could go 4-2 in division, which leaves only 5 more wins they'd have to find elsewhere to be in the playoff mix.
It's really not as if the Packers needed to blow up their team and spend like the Redskins to have a shot this year - a couple more pieces would just improve their chances a lot. It didn't even have to be Moss, it just has to be anyone to improve the team and take advantage of the division. Instead, Green Bay has seemed to take a pass on the offseason.
