I was hoping to get excited about at least ONE of the five pilots Adult Swim showed last night, but....
According to their previous press release/upfront, "Superjail" and "Fat Guy Stuck in Internet" have already been picked up. WHOOPEE. I'm just not sure what kinda legs "Superjail" should have.
Being one of the few dozens of people to actually remember the MAAKIES run on SNL (it lasted all of, what, two episodes?) I think my expectations were unreasonably set coming into watching "Drinky Crow Show" - I probably would have liked it more if I'd gone in blind.
What was the other one...."That Crook'd 'Sipp" - also made no impression on me. I think I may be too old.
If you held a gun to my head, my favourite was PROBABLY "Let's Fish."
I didn't post it earlier but let's pad out this post: as announced at their upfront, here's their list of returning/new comedy series:
Aqua Teen Hunger Force (YAY) Assy McGee (BOO) The Boondocks (EHH) Fat Guy Stuck in Internet Frisky Dingo (WTF) Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law (YAY) Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil (I think this is the second year they've announced it) Metalocalypse (YAY) Moral Orel (BOO) Robot Chicken (YAY) Saul of the Mole Men (EHH) Squidbillies (EHH - YAY) Superjail Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job (YAAAAAAY) Venture Bros. (YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY)
Kinda wondering how "Korgoth" fell off the radar. Didn't they announce a pickup last year?
Also, I believe they're still planning web-only episodes of "12 Oz. Mouse," "Perfect Hair Forever" (in fact they aired on of THESE as part of the annual April Fool's Day joke schedule) and the new George Lowe show, name of which escapes me but is probably something like "The George Lowe Show."
Nope. I love Moral Orel and try to watch it as much as I can. I don't understand why people don;t like it compared to the other crap that they show on adult swim.
Fry crack corn and I don't care Leela crack corn I still don't care Bender crack corn and he is great Take that you stupid corn!
"just because you ARE a character does not mean you HAVE character.."
Squidbillies has more jibbery style oinkery than Moral Orel. For that alone it wins.
I don't know how you follow up the last double episode of the Ventures but I will be watching.

Okay, about last night, I was drinking a good deal. Feeling mighty fine, I realized that even with my inebriated state, I felt no love AT ALL for Superjail. It was the worst thing I've seen since that Milk-Chan debacle. And why are they using Beavis and Butthead style animation I ask you.
I actually really enjoyed the Drinky Crow show though (ha). It was wacky~! without being too over the top like Superjail, although the last few minutes were kinda crazy.
I also felt no love for Fat Guy Stuck In Internet.
And those are the two they picked up (SJ and FGSII)? Man, I knew I was kinda out of the demographic, but geez.
I've really stopped watching a bunch of the AS stuff. Futurama, Family Guy, ATHF and Boondocks are about the only things i make a point to see now. The rest is not worthy of my time.

I'll second your enjoyment of it. Just finished the first season set to review for a website I do reviews for (www.chud.com - PLUG!) and I have to say it's a pretty good show. I think some of the lukewarmness of response might come down to the fact that it's more clever/intelligent in its pointed criticisms of organized religion than it is actually is laugh-out-loud funny. But still, it's a show that deserves whatever love it gets.
Edit to say that I liked Superjail.

I'm with you. I hardly ever watch Adult Swim anymore. I miss the golden days of Home Movies, ATHF, Sealab, The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman, and Space Ghost, or even later stuff like Futurama and Mission Hill. A lot of these are gone now and most that are left like ATHF have devolved into really stupid stuff like bloody ultra-violence for the sake of bloody ultra-violence. I guess it's to fit in with stuff like Metalocalypse, Saul of the Mole-Men, and Korgoth.
I don't want to sound too much like one of those "back in MY day..." guys, but I really miss the understated humor and funny non-sequitors of stuff like Space Ghost (which I hated the last few episodes of because they filled it with tons of blood and drugs and stuff like saying "bang a dog up the ass" 24 times which I'm sorry, that's just not Space Ghost).

Other than Home Movies, which is great, I'd put Venture Brothers ahead of any of that no contest. Tom Goes to the Mayor was fantastic, and Moral Orel is pretty damn good. I even enjoy Robot Chicken. I think they're putting much more interesting product out right now than in its supposed 'glory days', but what do I know?

Damn, yeah I forgot about Venture Brothers. That's one of the greats. I don't really like the rest though. Tom Goes to the Mayor and Robot Chicken have had a few awesome scenes among a lot of crap, at least for me. I also really dislike Morel Orel.
Different strokes for different folks and all that, I guess. I'll just stick to my precious DVD collections, although I am excited about the rumored Venture Brothers movie.
