A weak first show, yes, but one that features Angle destroying Justin Asshole is quality TV for me.

RVD might be the most imcompetent champion I've ever seen. Paul was feeding him cues for his victory speech, and his fumbling could have been easily solved had he just worn one of the belts. He looked bungling. Edge showed him up with a short but great promo, proving again that, of the three guys in the title hunt, he's easily the most qualified. Edge was in full ECW mode last night, and I can't decide if he should move to that roster and rule the roost or stay on RAW and play the top in-ring heel.

The vampire was weraring the same colors as Taz, suggesting he'll be the Inhuman Suplex Machine. A mat-based vampire wrestler might be the coolest thing in a long time.

I've never seen Big Guido before. Gudio's big. Yeah yeah yeah. He's not small. No no no.

However, they should have held off on bringin him in until a few shows from now. He could be the type of wrestler who can take a ton on punishment and keep coming back and not knowing to just stop moving forward. A great jobber to start but a strong face in a few months. I hope they keep him because they possibilities are endless with him.

Nah, next week they'll have Sandman cane the Sasquatch, or maybe one of the greys from the Roswell crash.

Best thing to come out of this show: Edge is totally winning the belt at Vengeance.

Also, ZOMBIE.

But yeah, this is the first time in a while that my sometimes-stretched positivity has been completely broken. I hope they can deliver much, much more over the next few weeks.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

I understand that, with WWE backing this ECW, they can afford to increase the production value of the show, but I miss the intimacy of the old shows. They had the neat mats and announcer tables and ring barricades - it felt like I was watching WWE presents ECW. I know that IS the case, however, I miss the skewed camera angles during promos and I don't really need a video-tron for all the wrestler videos, especially if you're gonna try to dress down the entranceways.

That said, the show also stunk. I was amused by the Zombie bits, especially cause I thought they may be poking fun at the cartoonish personas of some of the WWE stars (read: Undertaker). Other than that, though, I didn't see anything that made me think ECW would be any different than a "bad attitude" WWE. None of the other ECW stars that weren't at ONS were showcased (Roadkill, Doring, Snow, Richards and Little Guido all shoved into a battle royal - Credible manhandled by Angle).

I did have to laugh at Heyman for all his bluster about WWE invading his show, seeing as how he spent the past month interjecting himself into major parts of Raw and Smackdown. Oooooh, ECW is coming to Raw! What the hell was two weeks ago when 10 ECW guys jumped Cena during the ONS contract signing?

"This one spins." RVD's promo was weak, but did have the line of the night.

ECW simply needs a few weeks and a larger roster. Even when the original ECW as born it had been an established promotion, so it didn't have to start from scratch as it is now. They need enough wrestlers to have a seven match PPV with a few guys being left off of the card. Hopefully they will introduce guys with the proper pace and within 2 months the show will be self-sufficient. They already have an FBI-Big Show feud in the making. Sabu is emerging as a star and should be able to feud for the title in a month or so. They'll find someone for Angle to deal with, and so on.

Hopefully they'll set up a tournament for tag titles which can establish a couple of tag feuds as well as the inevitable team breaks up and former partners feud. ECW has already succeeded in that my interest in wrestling has increased quite a bit - I'm hoping my patience with the product will be rewarded in the long run.

True I'm willing to give them a pass on not have any storylines other than the title belt. Likewise I'm going to give them a pass on there not being any of the development talent they are supposedly going to use on the show because again like TNA it's hard in one hour to show established guys and new guys at the same time. However, what they should be able to give us right off the bat is some wrestling. I don't care if it's the extreme stuff they brag about or the luchador style they claim to have brought to the USA or if it's great wrestling like Benoit/Eddie/Malenko, but a WWE style hardcore match isn't going to cut it.

This show sucked hard. Plain and simple, I couldn't have been more disappointed with it. I was a huge ECW mark, but this was a freaking travesty. Paul Heymen and Tommy Dreamer have done a nice job of talking WWE into bringing it back just so everyone can basterdize and spit on its grave. I'm going to quote Steve Corino on this one, "It's dead. Let it die"

Would it have been ECW if he had been dressed up as a Musketeer instead?

ECW has had it's share of ridiculous gimmicks, with our without The Zombie

Now that I think of it, a Zombie Musketeer character has money written all over it

But why are you gonna say "F You" to the one channel that has agreed to show your show? I totally get Scifi's point on this, its the Scifi Network so they should try to show something related to that on the network.

I felt pretty much the same about everything. Zombie was probably the highlight, although I don't think I'd want to see him on a regular basis. The joke would get old quick.

As far as the show goes: it didn't overwhelm, but they were trying to do a lot in a limited amount of time. This one was the intro show, where they reintroduce every wrestler to the new audience. That doesn't leave a lot of time for stories or plot development. Cutting the striptease would have probably helped give them a bit more breathing room. But now that the players have been introduced, they should be able to start laying some stories and setting up rivalries.

They should have cut Big Show from the Battle Royal, though. Everyone already knows he'll be a monster. He didn't need to cement that point by making the rest of the roster look like saps.

EDIT: One other thing I noticed. Is it me, or does that new mix on Angle's new music seem specifically designed to eliminate the "You suck!" chants?

The Zombie bit is EXACTLY the kinda thing that the old ECW would've done. They used to use goofy in-joke characters for squash matches all the time.

I've been saying for a long time now that if WWE really wanted to make the fans stop chanting "You suck!" at Angle, all they had to do was change his music. Looks like they finally decided they wanted to do it. I personally would have changed the music during some earlier face turn, because the chants have always been really, really awkward with babyface Angle, but at least they got around to it eventually.

Exactly. If there was one thing on the show that actually did make me think "ECW" it was the Zombie, which is probably why it was my favorite part of the show.

While I agree that the show was quite bad, I also remember that the early days of TNA were fucking awful too. They found their legs eventually and here's hoping the new ECW will too.

Though, if the shows keep going like this with no changes, Sci-Fi might yank it off the air before the end of their summer commitment.

But they need a change of venue...stat.

That's a pretty good comparision - they also had a 13 week trial period. And they have (somewhat) turned it around.

The problem there is that it took far more than those 13 weeks to turn it around, and they would've been a footnote in history if someone with a lot more money to lose (Panda) didn't bail them out after those first 13 weeks. ECW already has smoeone with a lot of money to lose - is he going to want to keep going with it in 12 more weeks?
