WWE.com (wwe.com) is reporting that Road Warrior Animal has been released.

I'm kinda surprised about this one, considering who his brother is and all ... plus the fact that I thought he was going to be an agent after his in-ring career was over (which can still happen, I guess).

Guess the Road Warriors DVD sales had hit their peak ...

I won't miss Animal. Not one bit.

It occurs to me that it's been nearly a year since the last big purge of underused or generally useless WWE talent. It was late June/early July of last year when Gayda/Haas, Dawn Marie, Gangel, Joy Giovanni, etc. were fired. (Funny how those are the ones I remembered.) Seems like we're on the cusp of this year's clearing house. Especially with all those new ECW guys to pay and with another Diva Search on the way. I'd conjecture Animal is probably the first of the next wave of firings. I'd hate to be the Gymini or, well, anyone who appears regularly on Velocity in the next few weeks. This time of the year must be like Christmas to local indy wrestling promoters.

But will they fire Matt Hardy? That's what I want to know.

He's a perfect fit for ECW.

The Edge/Lita/Hardy triangle was practically an ECW angle in itself.

I think the opposite, actually, because they're going to be running a third house show tour and they haven't really signed enough ex-ECW guys to handle the load. People will be shuffled and moved over to ECW, and the guys who might have been cut end up filling spots. I wouldn't feel secure if I were a Rob Conway or a Scotty 2 Hotty, but I wouldn't be worried quite yet.

(now, if/when ECW crashes and burns 13 weeks from now, things get scary.)

Animal as a single on a house show circuit probably wasn't a good idea for either side, so it makes sense for him to be let go.

I never even got the point of having Animal around. "Lets try to increase the sale of this DVD set by having one its stars on TV every week looking old, fat and washed up." WTF kind of thinking is that? A few promos and maybe an endorsement of some up-and-comers would have been sufficient.

HBK: You’re flat broke aren’t you?
MJ: Please let me wrestle on RAW!
HBK: Fine, but I ain’t wearin’ no fruity tassels.
MJ: Are these your mirror pants?
HBK: Give me those!

He would have been better served in a Paul Ellering role. A manager for a badass tag team that wrestles in the occasional 6-man tag match.

As far as the house cleaning goes, if it does come to fruition & Val Venis survives, then I'm convinced that he has pictures of Vince and/or Johnny Ace in compromising postions with farm animals.

Hardcore Holly, no doubt, has those same pictures as well. And they only over the past year or so managed to get them out of the hands of Billy Gunn.

I don't know, dude - I used to think that long ago, but people have been saying that about Scotty for YEARS now and he never goes anywhere. After the apocalypse comes, the only thing remaining will be the cockroaches and Scotty making an appearance to do the ocassional job.

It was hardly a fluke, False. There's a story here no one is picking up on, especially not the three announcers, the Bickersons. And the story isn't the Divas of Doom "saving" the division.
