Wow. I thought that maybe the spoilers had exaggerated how bad the Rey squash was. But if anything, it seemed even worse than I had imagined. At this point, I'm not sure even if JBL were to job to Rey if it would do much to help him and not just hurt JBL.
The Bored are already here. Idle hands are the devil's workshop. And no... we won't kill dolphins. But koalas are fair game.

Just to note: The Giant beat Hogan and won the WCW World Title in his first televised match.
He beat Hogan via DQ though when Hogan's manager Jimmy Hart interfered in the match. In the course of the interference, Hart turned on Hogan and became the Giant's/Dungeon of Doom's manager. Then it was revealed that as Hogan's manager Hart had inserted a clause in the contract that the title could change hands via DQ, and thus The Giant was World Champ. He was then stripped, and the title was up for grabs in WW3's 60 man battle royale, won by Savage despite the fact Hogan never went over the top rope. All of that to get the title from Hogan to Savage, and that isn't even delving into the Monster Truck Showdown on the Roof between Hogan and The Giant. At least Flair turned on Sting that night. As for attacking Austin during the McMahon/Austin cage match: Austin wasn't the champ at the time.
The Giant's WWF debut also showed how stupid his character was supposed to be, as he ended up causing Austin to WIN the match that he interfered in.
I also remember Austin beating Big Show in his first match the next night on Raw after a few chairshots. I could be wrong, but I don't think that the Austin squash ever happened.
My decision on whether this is good booking or terrible booking is really going to come down to how they handle the eventual title match with JBL. I know the dirt sheets are already calling it for JBL, but that is just so stupid I can't believe it. I know I said the same thing with Rey, Orton, and the title shot, but I still won't believe it until I see it. Squashing Rey for several weeks and then stripping him of the title is just absolutely awful booking. On the other hand, being repeatedly squashed while JBL runs him down, only to eventually dig deep, rise up, and overcome the size difference against JBL at Judgment Day, well that's great booking. So I'm going to cross my fingers, try real hard to forget they've already burned me with Rey once before, and hope that someone, anyone, in the booking committee has a lick of sense.

It was the Raw right before WrestleMania XV - Austin gave Show five assorted chairshots (to the hip, leg and head), knocked the Rock off the apron, then Stunnered Show and pinned him.
I personally thought doing that match was an insanely stupid move, as in my opinion, it nearly killed Show right off the bat - I thought for sure they were going to push an Austin v. Show main event later that year and that it would've drawn (how is Austin going to take down a monster?) but they threw it away on a WrestleMania-hyping Raw, and it took months for Show to get back on track (feuding with Foley for a couple of months, joining the Union, then teaming with Undertaker till 'Taker was injured, then winning the World title in the midst of that stupid feud with Boss Man).

Actually Big Show (or was he still going by the name Big Nasty) losing to Austin on that RAW before Wrestlemania XV is something that he NEVER recovered from. I could never take Show as serious a contentder after that. It's the only match I can recall where my perception of a wrestler was completly changed permanently, no matter how he was booked afterwards.

You know, looking at what I said, I'd agree - he didn't recover, ever. He comes in, he's basically considered a main eventer right off the bat, easy money against Austin - and with that one throwaway match, he's done.
While I don't think Rey should be jobbing left and right I don't really feel the need to debate it. Whatever your opinion on that matter, it won't change how AWFUL the show was.
As for belts being props... allow me a 2 syllable rebuttal: Arquette.
Other than seeing Super Crazy work his ass off and Kash put forward an actual EFFORT that was a terrible show.
