I still remember this as one of the best matches I have ever seen in person.
I too am proud to have been part of that standing O. It was that match that cemented my feelings for Eddie's ring ability.
I wish I could take back the times that I said "how many times do I have to see Eddie and Rey go at it...." Now I can only wish to have seen one more great Mysterio Vs. Eddie... If only the "ONE MORE MATCH" chant would work in this case! Damn!
Please, I pray for this to be the greatest work of wrestling history. Regardless of how much I would hate that the WWE went there, please be a sick work.
RIP Eddie

I was reading through a Pacers forum I go to when I saw this in the Sports Pub section. I wouldn't have put it past that board to post this as a morbid joke, but I went to WWE.com and... there it was.
I must have cried for about ten minutes, hugging my mother and sharing with her some of my memories of Eddie Guerrero. I was sure to mention the night of WrestleMania XX, after Chris Benoit (another of my favorites) won the World Title, and he and Eddie celebrated in the ring together.
After using up two or three Kleenex, I needed another couple Kleenex as I watched the press conference with Chavo. I'm glad that WWE is having two tribute shows for Eddie, and no doubt I'll need an entire box of Kleenex as I watch RAW tonight. In fact, I feel ill-equipped to recap a show like this, but I'll put forth my best effort anyway, because the show must go on.
Eddie, you'll always be missed by everyone who saw you perform, everyone who knew you, and all who were inspired by you. You were one of the greatest performers in the history of professional wrestling, and I'm truly glad to have been able to see you in person, and as the WWE Champion no less, on the night when you pinned The Big Show and forced him to retire (not that wrestling retirements ever last, of course).
I'm also pleased to know that you were a born-again Christian, as that's probably the only decision you could have made that's even more important than cleaning up the substance abuse. Rest comfortably in Jesus' arms, Eddie, and know that you touched so many lives.

Nuclear Winter: Celebrating two years of mediocre posts. When I read this news this morning, it hit me hard, but it took me most of the day to truly realize the weight of it.
When my dad came home from work, before we got to talking about football like we always do, I had to pull him aside and say, "Hey, I need to tell you some really sad news." The words were getting stuck in my throat as I told him.
Tonight, when I got home from work, I sat down and watched the press conference, the highlights of Eddie winning the title, and his celebration with Benoit at WMXX. And I cried my heart out.
Raw tomorrow is really going to be rough, but I'm sure it will be a fitting tribute to Eddie.
I only wish I would've had the chance to see him in person (I would've seen him at this coming Survivor Series, my first wrestling show).
But his WWE(F) stint is particularly memorable for so many reasons to me. Him badmouthing The Rock in Spanish on Raw one time during the Invasion.
This probably isn't the time to nitpick - but Eddie wasn't part of the Invasion.... He disappeared from about the time it started until the time it ended, due to an injury, and of course the termination as a result of the drinking. He returned right before Backlash 2002, and took it to the Rock later that summer.
It was around that point he was slated to start feuding with Austin before Austin took off as well ... A feud between the two of them would have been interesting to say the least, bad kareoke bar singing aside. ;-)
A real shame, but unfortunately, time does eventually run out for all of us. I like to believe that Eddie was given a second lease on life to show us what he was really made of, before being taken away for good. Because this wasn't our news four years ago, we can now look back at:
- Eddie, a former WWE champion - Embracing his best friend during the Mania main event - Going out clean and sober, as opposed to far worse
It should be a time of celebration, not sadness. Eddie conquered his demons, and left on a high note, with nothing to regret or be ashamed of.
Behold the "Wise" Words of Renegade Raine, the Bishounen Hunter:
God...I don't know what to say, but I am deeply saddened by this. Apparently the whole INTERNET is sad too, as even the narutofan forums has THREE threads on Eddie right now.
To me, Eddie was the perfect wrestler. Great wrestler, great performer, and worked well as a heel or face. I don't remember being this sad over a celebrity death for a very long time.
When I saw this thread listed under the last 100 posts section after logging in about an hour ago, it really sent a chill down my spine.
There's so much that I want to say right now about how life isn't fair and how life in wrestling is even less fair and how this really sucks, but I'm sure everyone else is thinking the same things, so I'll pass. We all know that Eddie is really one of the greats whose talents and performances can be put up against those of anyone in the history of this sport.
Just a quick story before I end this. One memory that sticks in my head about Eddie right now for some reason is something that happened about a year ago on Smackdown. It was during his feud with Kurt Angle when he stole Angle's stuff and was auctioning it off. I can remember that the skit was so cheesy and crappy in its conception, but there was Eddie Guerrero in the middle of the ring saving this segment all by himself. He had so much charisma and so much of a genuine bond with the fans, that, for me at least, it just hit all the right notes. And that was why Eddie Guerrero is one of the all time greats. As a face you loved him and identified with him, but as a heel you couldn't wait to see him get what he had coming to him (even though you secretly laughed at his shenanigans).
RIP Eddie. Thanks for the memories - we won't forget you being the consumate performer.
I guess it's differant when a guy that hasn't been in the limelight (Hennig, Davey Boy, Hawk) passes on. Because I haven't been this shocked since about a wrestler passing Monday Morning May 24th 1999, when I found out about Owen. Still having a hard time accepting it.
I don't keep up with the current product, but I was a fan of Eddie, and recognize him as one of the top performers in the world over the past 10-12 years.
And while this isn't the proper time to dwelve too deep into the subject of steroids. One can't help but notice that bodies in the WWE are getting alot bigger over the past few years. If any good can possibly come out of this, maybe some main eventers in the organization will take a step back and reconsider their choices in life.
All dead all dead but I should not grieve in time it comes to everyone all dead all dead but in hope I breathe of course I don't believe you're dead.........and gone all dead..........and gone

A lot of emotions going through me.. my first thought..and probably why I have slowed my WWE watching down is that it wouldnt be a ''work'' would it? WWE surely wouldnt stoop as low as that. The I read a few more different sites and sadly it was not a work.
Like a few I think it hits me harder because Eddie was an active worker in the middle of a major storyline...and he has been for the better part of the last 3 years. And again , I was fortunate enough to see Eddie live when they came to Perth in April. He and Rey fought the Bashams and for the first 5 minutes the byplay between Eddie and Rey and the Bashams had all of us in hysterics. Then we got to see his ring work and while not as athletic as some of Eddies work i have seen on tv ..it was still good nonetheless.
Oh man, the news of Eddie's passing hit me like a shotgun blast to the chest. As a huge fan, I'm taking his death far worse than any other wrestler that has died before him.
I shed tears when the news of his death really sank in. I'm sure tears will be welling up in my eyes when I tell my son tommorrow morning that one of his favorite wrestlers is now dead. And I am sure that I will be bawling like a baby when I watch the RAW & Smackdown tributes.
I'm really gonna miss you Eddie.........dammit.

I haven't logged on to the Internet since Saturday and due to living in England WWE news is not in the press all that much here so I was completely oblivious to this until about half an hour ago and I honestly could'nt believe what I was reading, It really felt like I'd been hit by a truck as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, I think it hits even harder when this happens to an active wrestler that is still riding high and is as entertaining as he ever was inside and outside the ring. The angle with Batista was the only thing that was keeping me watching Smackdown lately, and having only watched him Saturday morning driving out in his lowrider with his old lie cheat and steal music playing only makes this feel more sudden and shocking to me. My heart truly goes out to all of his Family and Friends.
Eddie, just for you I am personally ripping up my daughter's poster of the Rock.
Damn, this is not fair.
RIP, Eddie. You were far too young, and far too talented.
Why the hell did I have to read this at work? Now I'm gonna lose it...

I think this hurts more because we just saw him Friday night. Most of the wrestlers that died have been out of the limelight for sometime. Eddie was still on the top of his game. And it goes to show you that it all could be gone in a snap of your fingers.
I am in shock right now. Did not hear this until this morning at work. Eddie was probably my favorite performer over the last three years, and was at times the only reason I watched SD! the last 18 months or so. I was so glad that he turned his life around and made it to the top of the mountain last year. And it looked like he may have been poised to make one another run at the title. Thanks for the memories Eddie, you will be missed.
Just woke up this morning (after a fitful night-- I literally had a shock-induced migraine about this), and came back to the board hoping, somehow, that the entire thing had been the creation of my feverish and delusional mind, or something.
Sadly, that's not the case, though God knows I wish it was.

The reports of her rape are horrific. The facr that WWE (allegedly) encouraged her not to report it is even worse. She lived a very sad life after what she thought was a dream job. RIP.
