Apparently. Well, that's exactly what the WWE.com homepage says as of now. However, the site has promptly died, and clicking the link for further info currently takes you to nothing.

Here's the address, tho:
http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/brockupdate1

I'm thinking WWE.com likes 'working' us too much for me to believe this quite yet...

(edit) Finally got the full text, folks!

Lesnar update: negotiations break down
After verbally agreeing to terms with WWE, Brock Lesnar has decided to withdraw from any involvement with the company.

And then it says:

"Check back here for more on this developing story."

Which kinda contradicts Lesnar's stance. What development would withdrawing allow?

This is playing off Vince's "backstabbing" comments from the speech last night. Brock will emerge and go nuts on the WWE until he's allowed back in.

So, assuming this is a work (and that's been the safe assumption all along), what was the point of all that? If Brock's really coming back the only reason to say he isn't is to surprise us, but if they wanted to surprise us they wouldn't have announced negotiations to begin with. All they'll have done is make it really really obvious that they want to surprise us.

I suppose the Brock coverage could have all been a shoot, along the lines of the story on Jericho re-signing, and he really isn't coming back. But if so, it was pointless to hype the guy and then not deliver.

Id say its just WWE just drawing the story out. He probably has signed and they are just saying this so he can make his ''surprise'' TV appearence.

Can't say I'm surprized. Then again, I can't say I'm disappointed, either.

Maybe WWE knows that if they never mentioned Brock, it would be too easy for the sites to find out and then spoil it before he makes his debut. By announcing "yea he is coming back", and THEN announcing that he backed out, it leads you to believe that the latter is more true. And thus, more of a surprise when he does show up. It's way too complicated, but I wouldn't put that past them.

This is a shocking lack of cynicism from The Chief. My perception of reality is all dizzied up.

Somewhere, I read that WWE was bragging that their site traffic went up something like 200% last month. Probably because of the way the firings were handled - listed a couple at a time.

Notice the "click back here for updates".

Strategy to sell ads maybe?

If this news is legitimate, and I believe it is as WWE.com has yet to have a single proven "work" to it's credit as far as I know, then I am annoyed. I thought for sure that Brock was coming back last night, and was actually dissapointed (at first anyway) that it was matt hardy.

Bah.

Damn stupid gorilla. What does he think he's gonna do without the WWE? They must REALLY have offered him a horrible contract or something.

He read the fine print about literally kissing Vince McMahon's ass on TV.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Vince come out on Smackdown within the coming weeks to make some sort of announcement.

If Lesnar's re-hired, does that mean he pretty much won his lawsuit without actually winning it? I mean, he wants to work in wrestling but can't because of the stip...yet he WILL be wrestling...

I'm slightly confused, but I still stand by opinion and my lack of disappointment.

Not really.

I don't think Brock particularly *wants* to work in wrestling, he just realises it's the only thing left that he can make a good living from after his football attempt flopped. The ideal thing for him was working occasional Japan dates where he would be earning big money for a much lighter schedule than he'd have to for Vince, but apparently even his (non-wrestling) appearance at a Japanese show last year broke the terms of his no-compete clause. So with his lawsuit not having a chance in hell of succeeding, along with not being able to work anywhere else for the next 10 years, he had no other option than to crawl back to Vince and ask for his job back.

I think it boils down to the fact that WWE doesn't need Lesnar, and Lesnar isn't really passionate about wrestling. When you have that sort of combination, you're not going to end up with much.

I think I heard somewhere that it came down to the lawsuit was probably going to be won by Lesnar and WWE would bring him aboard to avoid them losing it wich has been done with other emplyees who were fired then re-hired to avoid this kinda thing.

On the contrary. When the fed's "big stars" of the future are Orton (ugh), Batista (old), Carlito (not exactly lighting the world on fire), and Cena (shelf life issues), to say the company doesn't need a ready-made ME'er with impressive size and loads of wrestling skill is a bit short sighted.

Oh, I totally agree that WWE is hurting for main eventers that can sell PPVs and that Lesnar could really help out there. However, that's just a temporary solution to a temporary problem. Lesnar has worse shelf-life issues than Cena, because he always had trouble developing a personality.

IMO, if they brought Lesnar back, it should be to get a guy like Rey Misterio mega-over. Otherwise, he's there to just fill in main event slots until they over-use him again. Like they did last time.

Lesnar does have quite a few matches left in him. Batista/Lesnar for starters, Brock/HHH, maybe a followup to the Lesnar/Benoit feud, etc.

I still wouldn't say that they "need" Lesnar. I don't see Lesnar as being much bigger of a name than a Batista or a Randy Orton. To me, Lesnar will always represent being in the first link in the chain that led us to Orton. Lesnar, like those two, is a product of the WWE "Monster Factory"/"Power Plant" that was bred to be a great athletic worker, but still lacked the overall personality that WWE had when guys like Austin and Angle were on top.

Lesnar has worse shelf-life issues than Cena, because he always had trouble developing a personality.

What's wrong w/ "big guy who likes to hurt people"? He had that one down pat. Brock doesn't need to be cracking jokes and acting all goofy, nor should he. Batista went down that route a bit, and it took away from his mystique. Angle went there too much, and I dare say it hurt him as being seen as a #1 guy.

I don't see how Lesnar would be a short time fix. If he decides to give it all he's got, he can become 1 of the best big men ever in the business, and a fixture in the company for years to come. It's a little shaky, cosidering his past behavior, but he's got phenomenal upside, moreso than Orton.

Using him to get Rey over is a waste, since Rey is already over, and likely won't be pushed as a World Title guy due to his size.

The company is just so stale right now, and Brock would be just the guy to shake things up & provide some excitement.

They need to bring Lesnar back as JBL's bodyguard...

That's a terrible idea. The best bet is to set up Batista vs. Lesnar for WM. Keep Lesnar undefeated, keep the belt on Batista the entire time, and hype it up as 2 ass-kickers meeting to decide who is the ass-kickingest. And given Vince's love of big men, I don't see why they shouldn't go that route, provided Vince doesn't opt for making Brock "pay his dues", which would pretty much be akin to flushing money down the toilet.

I totally agree with you on Brock and Batista not needing to be cracking jokes and acting goofy, but please give me a comedic heel Kurt Angle anyday over Kurt trying to be another version of Triple-H that just attacks and beats people down whenever he doesn't get his way.

I think Kurt can be a little funny and goofy in a heel-ish way and still be a #1 guy.
