The Minnesota Timberwolves will announce a new head coach Friday afternoon, and WCCO's Mike Max has learned the new coach is Dwane Casey, the assistant coach for the Seattle SuperSonics.
The Timberwolves organization has scheduled a press conference for 4 p.m. to unveil the team's new head coach.
Kevin McHale, Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Timberwolves, denied reports Thursday that an offer was made to Casey for the Wolves' head coach position.
Geez, that last paragraph really covers their asses, doesn't it?
Casey was blemished by scandal within the UK basketball program when he was an assistant under Eddie Sutton. An Emory Overnight package containing game tape from Casey to recruit Chris Mills popped open to reveal around $1,000 in cash. This was the event that led to UK's probation, Eddie Sutton's resignation and the hiring of Pitino at UK.
Good luck to Casey in Minnesota; Sutton can still go to hell.
FWIW, Casey sued Emory and won after that all went down, and he always maintained that someone else put his name on the envelope.
As a Sonics' fan I'm kind of bummed because he was almost a co-head coach with Nate, but he deserves the opportunity to be a head coach, I think. The Wolves' job is pretty darn good for a never-been-head caoach to get.

Well, for one year, anyway. Then they've gotta give him a max deal (which he deserves) to have even a chance of keeping him. I still can't understand why he wants to go to the Lakers, though.
