hey W's,

I recently recorded a comedy/rap song with Jamie Kennedy and Bob Saget that i would love to get your feedback on.

I have it streaming for the next 24hrs on the link below.

We are trying to determine if the song is done, or needs more work.

if you get a chance to check it out, please let me know good or bad what you think. I can take it, so dish it if the song is shite.

thanks alot,

Stu

Holy fuck, that's really Bob Saget. I feel dirty.

No, seriously, that was, as the kids say, "the bomb".

thanks alot guys!

I am thinking about taking the answering machine message out of the begining of the track. Its almost inaudible and is kind of muddy. Other than that, it's pretty solid.

Do you think people would buy a comedy/hip hop cd? Or would you say its more of a "free" internet-ish kind of thing?

Well, define "people," you know?

I'll be there with $14.99 and bells on to get a copy, and colaborating with Jamie Kennedy probably won't hurt, either because that's the exact kind of near mainstream level of celebrity you need to cash in on an album like this.

Also, there are a few songs on your myspace profile that are sure to get some "Morning Drive Time" radio play, just based on the awesome pop-culture references that really hit for people in the 18-35 CD Buyer Age Group (it's pretty much the same concept that launched and sustained my old radio show for five years and has kept the Satire alive, though you're certain to make more money off of it than I do). That kind of stuff is great publicity. I mean, do you think most DJs are going to be able to resist playing Bob Saget rapping? Hell no. People hear that, and you've got yourself a few more sales.

And by mentioning Saget and Kennedy, I am by no means trying to downplay your contribution to the album. You've got a great flow, and you nail all four of the songs I heard, it's just that Kennedy has his own TV show and Bob Saget is a quasi-American icon. Nothing against you, Stu.

So, yeah. Sell it, I'd say. I mean I don't know that you'll put up Eminem numbers, but you certainly have a good shot at being the Hip-Hop Weird Al, which is something.

just wanted to thank you for taking the time to listen and give me such good feedback! I never considered the whole "wierd al" scenerio, and to be honest, i probably should have.

I would be interested in having you check out more of the material, if you are interested, PM me and we can make some arrangements.

if anyone else around here hasnt heard the track yet, or would like to comment on it, feel free to post it here.

I listened when you posted it. I liked it OK for one time through, but there were elements that I think would annoy me if I heard it 10 or 15 times. The guy making the scratching noise, for example. It could probably go either way - thumbs in the middle? Good concept and the rapping was definitely OK, just some of the other stuff thrown in might tip it for me.

I think Guru hit it about right, stu. It was funny the first time through, but I don't think I would put it on continuous play. Overall, it was very chuckle-inducing.

I dont know how this happened, but since we have began discussing this song here on the-W, shit has just exploded.

We hit #1 in 3 catagories with the song on myspace, and Mtv News ran a story..

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1502639/20050519/lopez_jennifer.jhtml?headlines=true

crazy shit.

I guess i have to hit now.

I have taken the answering machine message out of the begining and fixed up a few things, however, I agree - the song is good for a few plays, its gonna get old fast.

I think i should take the song off of the net, take out the swear words in place of funny sound effects and send it to all of the morning drive shows on monday. Who knows what can happen next?

Yes, the song and the whole act is a gimmick, but as wrestling fans we all know, a good gimmick is a draw.

Best hip-hop song featuring Bob Saget ever.

But seriously....

What seperates this from being creative and novelty-record goofy is that the beat is right. It sounds like a hip-hop record, as opposed to someone who's TRYING to make a hip-hop record. Plus the fact that Saget's peppered in and isn't the whole dish helps. Also, the fact that I heard it and didn't immediately think "this sounds like [x]" is good.

EDIT: left field suggestion instead of the high-pitch scratch. This is one of those "try it and see if it works and if not forget it" things, and I listened to it a few times to see what hit me. But instead of the scratch, double or triple track the Bob Saget chant that's in the chorus with it so that it sounds more pronounced and/or maybe a word in there to fill in the space now available by taking out the scratch. But I do better with remixing rock records than hip-hop, so take it as you will.

hmmm

thats not a bad idea..i will definatly mess around with it...

PS- and im not bullshitting either, how crazy this thing got since i put it up reached new heights...on friday Jay-Z called Jamie's people and asked us to come be in his new rocawear billboard add! We went (ofcourse) and did the shoot last night. It was at universal studios and it was set up like a fashion show. Jay Z was standing in the middle of the runway and in the front row were 10 celebs that Jay Z invited. Pharell, Jamie K, The entrouage guys, Brandon Davis and the W's own, stu. It was surreal. He was the nicest guy, so appraochable. He took us all out to dinner afterwards..it was all off this saget shit.
Apparently Bob has been getting tons of calls about it and has already ton a ton of interviews since the mtv piece...

crazy shit.
