Kind of branching off the "Office" thread, NBC announced their fall lineups today. Here's what it will look like (new shows in bold):

Monday
8pm-9pm: Fathom (A Deep-Sea Team investigating mysterious creatures; starring Lake Bell, Jay R. Ferguson and Carter Jenkins)
9pm-10pm: Las Vegas
10pm-11pm: Medium

Tuesday
8pm-9pm: The Biggest Loser
9pm-9:30pm: My Name is Earl (A crook wins the lottery and decides to right his past wrongs; starring Jason Lee, Jamie Pressly and Ethan Suplee)
9:30pm-10pm: The Office
10pm-11pm: Law And Order: SVU

Wednesday
8pm-9pm: The Apprentice: Martha Stewart
9pm-10pm: E-Ring (A Drama about the Pentagon; starring Benjamin Bratt and Dennis Hopper; Exec-Producer is Jerry Bruckheimer)
10pm-11pm: Law And Order

Thursday
8pm-8:30pm: Joey
8:30pm-9pm: Will And Grace
9pm-10pm: The Apprentice
10pm-11pm: ER

Friday
8pm-9pm: Three Wishes (unscripted series starring Amy Grant making the hopes of deserving people come true)
9pm-10pm: Dateline NBC
10pm-11pm: Inconceivable (Medical Drama set at a fertility clinic; starring Ming Na, Joelle Carter and Jonathon Cake)

Saturday
8pm-11pm: NBC Saturday Night Movie

Sunday
7pm-8pm: Dateline NBC
8pm-9pm: The West Wing
9pm-10pm: Law And Order: CI
10pm-11pm: Crossing Jordan

Cancelled (or not renewed): Committed, The Contender, Father of the Pride, Last Comic Standing, Law And Order: Trial by Jury, LAX, Medical Investigaton, American Dreams, Revelations, Third Watch.

Summary: For those keeping track, that's three dramas and three comedies NBC will add. There are already two shows slated to debut later in the season ("Thick and Thin", a comedy with Jessica Capshaw; and "Four Kings," a comedy with Seth Green). The only thing I watch on NBC these days is "The Office," so I'm happy it's back. Interesting that L&O: Trial by Jury is done. And The West Wing on Sunday? That's seems like a drastic change. Wasn't it on Wednesdays?

I'm interested in the Jason Lee comedy, as I've always been a fan of his. However, just by reading the plot of the show, it seems as if it might make a better movie than TV show. But that remains to be seen.

And I've been an ER fan for a really long time, but now with the exit of Noah Wyle, I've gotta wonder how much more steam this show has left?

The Washington Post said that NBC is giving up on Wednesday nights and moved TWW from it accordingly.

From: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/05/15/AR2005051501054.html

On Wednesday at 8 p.m., where NBC has had so much trouble attracting viewers with entertainment programming, the network may concede defeat and plug the hour with an edition of the newsmagazine "Dateline," according to at least one version of NBC's new lineup.

Where is Scrubs? I remember hearing that it was already going to be back (because of the long committment it got some years ago), but I don't see it on the lineup. Is it a mid-season show?

As far as I've heard it's renewed for two more years, but they're starting it later (I'm thinking after the initial run of that Jason Lee show is over).

Glad to see Law & Order: Trial by Jury got axed. Now if CSI: New York would only get the same treatment, we'd have a little more franchise justice. Up until a few months ago, I would have axed Law & Order: Criminal Intent, too, but they're bringing back Chris Noth for that show, so I'll start watching it again.

Of course, my deepest L&O wish is that they'd give Sam Waterston the boot already. That throat wattle of his is approaching turkey-esque dimensions. But whom to replace him with? Hey, you know, Bebe Neuwirth is out of a job. And she's from the same TV universe. It's so crazy, it just might work!

Fear Factor is another one that'll return later.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you here, C.S.I.: NY is the only C.S.I. that I watch and that is because Gary Sinise so rules in his role.

Boy, Sunday nights are going to be appointment television for me even more than they became this season. With West Wing on at 8, Desperate Housewives at 9 and (hopefully) Grey's Anatomy at 10...well, pretty much all my favorite network shows will be on the same night, in sequence.

This is going to be rough....between West Wing, Simpsons, Housewives, Arrested Development, Family Guy, Trailer Park Boys, poker, football and the various Sunday night events (award shows, wrestling PPVs, etc.), my VCR will be working overtime.

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.--- Del Preston

Given that Dick Wolf called the cancellation of Law & Order IV "inconceivable," I find it appropriate (not ironic) that the name of the show that replaces it in Homicide's time slot is "Inconceivable."

I *heart* Amy Grant, but count me out.

Matt Santos on Sundays concerns me. I understand the strategy: J.J. Abrams is kicking our ass on Wednesdays, so now that the Bartlet Administration has some ratings and buzz back, lets get it the hell off of Hump Day and onto Sundays where it will carry some viewers to that time slot. High-paying viewers. Rich viewers. On the most-watched night of the week. Will NBC finish fourth in that time slot? Yes. Will NBC make tons more money on Sundays than in the past couple years? Yes.

Keep in mind this as well: West Wing is Sunday 8/7c for 2005-06, but not for 2006-07. Sunday Night Football.

Office renewed: hell yeah. Scrubs to mid-season: hell no. I'm hoping they at least order 22, not 13, so we get no repeats from January through May.

I'm all over the Jason Lee vehicle.

Yep. He's intense and acts like a cop. It's interesting, those shows. The Vegas CSIs are just scientists and check for hair samples and stuff and of course Grissom makes with the obscure cultural references. NY it seems they'recops 1st and evidence guys second and the Miami thing they just have to drive Hummers a lot.

Probably because E-Ring is a new show that will need the same demo that the West Wing already gets.

The West Wing's ratings are usually hovering just under the top 20. But what really saves the show (or has been saving the show) is the fact that the Demo that watches the show is a high dollar demo, and assuming that demo is watching TV on Sunday night's makes me incredibly nervous, even though West Wing/Law and Order/Crossing Jordan is a pretty good congruous block for that demo.

I don't understand how the network that cancelled Mister Sterling after six episodes a few years back is the same network that keeps Joey on the air...

I complained to another Liberal friend about some of the Left’s tone concerning the 2004 elections. I thought it insulting to hear those “red state” voters caricatured as red-necked rubes. My friend asked, “Well, don’t you think that people who live in large urban areas, who travel and read and speak other languages are better able to make informed choices?” It turns out it is superiority, not familiarity, which breeds contempt. - Pat Sajak

I totally agree. I don't get anything from CSI Miami or CSI New York...but I will admit I'm kind of digging the heel dick-ish Horatio character on Miami. I'll take the original over the two spin-offs any day.

Here's an interesting write-up from IMDB.com's entertainment news about NBC's up-fronts: http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2005-05-18/

Forget Ratings -- How Much Do Viewers Earn?

Making the point that ratings aren't everything in today's ad market, today's (Tuesday) Wall Street Journal observes that NBC at its upfront presentation to advertisers this week decided to keep The Office but yank Committed, which drew higher ratings this past season. The reason, according to the network, is that The Office draws a higher percentage of wealthy viewers than Committed. The Office, NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly told the newspaper, "was the most upscale comedy on any network this season. ... That's the type of product we want on our network." In its report, the Journal concluded, "What viewers with higher incomes watch on TV is becoming more important to the broadcast networks as they try to set themselves apart from the pack and sell their fall schedules to advertisers." However, the newspaper also quoted ad buyer exec Laura Caraccioli-Davis of Starcom Entertainment as saying, "Overall television is not a very upscale marketplace. ... The pool of TV advertisers seeking narrow, wealthy audiences is comparatively small."

Agreed. Enjoyed it *MUCH* more than I thought I would. The things that looked the most ridiculous in the trailer (the tank ride) weren't nearly as ridiculous when seen in the context of the movie.
