Thomas Haden Church is the villian, but they aren't saying who he is playing. He resembles Willem Dafoe enough to be an Osbourn relative. I don't think he has the physical size to be Venom. Any thoughts on what other Spidy villians he could be?

That makes sense. He looks enough like, but is more of a "name" than Dylan Baker (IMDB), who played Curt Connors in Spider-Man 2.

There's also been internet talk of Black Widow as well. Maybe they're be going the 2 villan route a la Batman Returns.

Maybe the villian in #3 will be a slow airplane mechanic...

By that rationale, the villians in the first two movies should have been...

#1- Jesus
#2- Coked-up, wearing a silk bathrobe, armed to the teeth and obsessed over the song "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger.

Either of those movies I would have paid to see. :)

I was actually picturing the villian in #2 as a Jew from Anatefka who was wishing he was rich, having seen Fiddler on the Roof with my then girlfriend a week before Spiderman 2 came out... :-)

I figured that would happen anyway...or are they gonna draw out Harry taking over as the Green Goblin again?

Considering McGuire, Dunst, and Raimi have all stated that they don't want to do more than three Spider-Man movies, I don't see them dragging out Harry's story any further.

I've only heard Dunst say she's done with Spider-Man. When did the other two say they wanted out?

Small trivial point, but I believe it's actually the Black CAT. Both characters are hotsy totsy broads in black outfits, so the confusion is understandable. Black Cat is the Catwoman rip-off who used to fight Spidey, until she did a face turn and became his girlfriend for a bit. Black Widow is the former Iron Man communist/cold war villain who also did a face turn, messed with Hawkeye, shacked up with Daredevil and became an Avenger.

Some of the Black Cat rumors are based on speculation over the landlord's daughter in Spider-Man 2. There was also a rumor two years ago that Eliza Dushku was connected to the role.

CONFIRMED (or all but) AS RETURNING: Tobey Maguire [Peter Parker/Spider-Man], James Franco [Harry Osborn], Kirsten Dunst [Mary Jane Watson], Bruce Campbell, J.K. Simmons [J. Jonah Jameson], Thomas Haden Church [villain (Sandman, Venom or Hobgoblin)],
PROBABLY RETURNING: Dylan Baker [Curt Connors], Rosemary Harris [May Parker], Daniel Gillies [John Jameson], Bill Nunn [Joe Robertson], Ted Raimi [Hoffman] & Elizabeth Banks [Betty Brant]

CREW: Sam Raimi [Director], Alvin Sargent [Writer], Scott Stokdyk & Anthony LaMolinara [Visual Effects]

NOTES:
-"I'd probably make as many Spider-Man movies as they would ask me." - Sam Raimi (Feb 1, 2005) on how many sequels he's going to make.
-"If I have the same passion after this (Spider-Man 3), I would love to direct (No. 4) and hope they would ask me." - Sam Raimi (Dec 1, 2004) on sequels.
-Tobey Maguire has said that he's not signed beyond #3, but if the script and money was right he'd stick around. Kirsten Dunst has said she's gone as soon as #3's done.
-Villainous speculation has settled between The Hobgoblin, The Sandman & Venom. Raimi says he likes the Sandman, everyone wants Venom, and Hobgoblin makes sense (in that he's not an Osborn).

Sandman seems to be the road they're taking. Venom's just out-THC is far too old for the role, there's a shitload of backstory tht'd have to be covered, and Raimi doesn't like the character. Hobgoblin's possibility, but if they were gonna go the second-goblin route they'd have stuck with Harry, and besides, I don't think they're keen on going back to the problems they had with the costume design on part one. Sandman seems the next logical choice-it's the character Church most resembles, it's a potential CGI orgy, and Maguire's gone on record as lobbying for the concept to be used.

EDIT: Holy crap, you know who else THC kinda looks like? Cletus Kasady. Would Raimi possibly go for Carnage?

I guess I have to eat my words on Raimi, but I could have sworn I saw an interview where he said he was gone after three.

Raimi doesn't like Venom. I don't see how anyone who doesn't like Venom could even *stand* Carnage. After the first two films, are we really ready to jump to the "Super powered mass murderer" stage just yet?

If Larry David actually shows up for a cameo as the Vulture, this will automatically be the best movie of all time.

David's alleged cameo as Vulture makes me think....what if the villains for Spidey 3 are actually the Sinister Six, except with Goblin Harry taking over Doc Ock's role as the organizer? Vulture (David), Sandman (Church), and then you can have loads of fun with Electro, Kraven and Mysterio.

I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? One last thing: while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tight-Ass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits." --- President Jed Bartlett, The West Wing

Nah, Sinister Six would be too complex to pull off. Raimi seems to like the more simplistic approch. Here's something that came to me earlier: With David rumored for a cameo as the Vulture....maybe THC's playing the younger Vulture? They'd need two actors to pull that off, right?

Amazon really did a number on me over the weekend, altering all their page output so that my scripts are quite broken, so I have to decide if it's worth fixing or cut bait and suddenly find I have a whole lot more free time than I used to have.
