The good guys are really kicking ass this season. I don't know if I'm just conditioned by previous seasons or what, but it seems like more bad things should be happening to our heroes. I suppose that's next week, when we have a meltdown.

I like the new, sullen Tony as Jack's partner. "Actually, I'm unemployed." You tell 'em, Tony.

Sure seems like Behrooz and Dina are gonna get found out next week, but maybe they'll give the cops the slip. The way Jack and the gang seem to be cleaning up leads me to suspect that the Mummy and his crew are either up to something else, or a front for other sinister forces. They got Mary Ann. They got... whatever his name is in the chopper. Something has to go wrong. (Something unexpected, not a meltdown that's been building for three or four weeks.)

Too bad about Sarah and the whole torture thing... I was cringing a little as that guy tasered her. Driscoll finally decides to take a page from Jack's book, and she botches it. Say, what about her daughter and the potentially lethal allergic reaction? No complications, I guess.

Also, mad props to super-sleuth Edgar Styles. Chloe 2K5.

What freaks me out is that we're only a third of a way through the day/season. What the hell else can happen? There aren't even clues; they gave us an indication from the very beginning that there was more to the plot than Heller's kidnapping, but now all the chatter seems to be just about the meltdowns.

One would think CTU would be better hidden, to prevent car bombs and such.

Does Tony and Powell’s little exchange (“Actually, I’m unemployed.” “I’ll make it worth your while.”) foreshadow Tony *maliciously* betraying his country at some point down the road?

I like not having to explain who Tony is to new viewers when Jack and Audrey do a much better job through their expository dialogue.

So, now what? You’d think Powell getting killed would be no problem since they have Marianne. But, shit, I have a really bad feeling we’re going to revisit the amnesia storyline next week.

For some reason, I thought the coolest part of the entire show was seeing Tony & Jack walk to the SUV together in hopes of foiling the helicopter departure. I was like, "Jack & Tony, back together & kickin' some ass."

No way, the coolest part was Tony watching Spanish soccer on the couch while drinking beer out of the CUBS MUG.

I have a bad feeling about the guy Heller brought in to do the sting to find the mole...he's shady...unless he was the guy that tried to open Marianne's car and got blown up...then he's dead.

Driscoll's daughter is gone for the week, also MIA is Audrey's English husband...guess we'll have to wait to see if he's good or bad.

I enjoyed that little exchange where Jack tries to reach out to Tony because he understands what he's going through. I liked it even better that Jack wasn't a jerk about it. We know sooner than later Michelle is going to show up later this season, so I hope she and Tony will reconcile at some point and Tony doesn't become a traitor.

And how about Keifer Sutherland's little PSA to placate the civil rights groups?

Are the real bad guys this season even Islamic? They look like white guys to me. Pretty much every season of 24 the REAL bad guys turn out to be rich white people.

Yeah I personnaly feel that it's more racist that the Islamic terrorists are unknowing pawns for someone else. That makes them just as evil but stupid at the same time.

The guy who Heller brought in was different from the guy who blew up with the car, as far as I could tell. And I agree, he seems awfully shady. Then again, that's what this show trains us to see - *anyone* could be a traitor.

PeterStork - I agree, Edgar rules all. Saving nuclear plants, ferreting out moles, winning the heart of Chloe, is there anything this man can't do? :D

It was pretty great when Jack was about to leave Tony's place before Tony stops him and tells him he's going with him to fight terrorists. Awesome. I don't think that he could be a traitor. I guess that he could be, because he's sending off that disallusioned with the USA vibe, but that plot would be a little to convenient/contrived for my taste.

And Edgar is the man. The CTU people who work in CTU have been a little weak this year, in terms of likability and being able to get things done. Sarah hasn't done anything except not be a spy. Curtis has had nothing to do as well. Driscoll is finally letting Jack run wild, but she's still not great. But Edgar. Oh, that Edgar. He is getting it done.

It's a little too soon for them to be making Dina Araz basically on the good side since she's running from her husband. I mean, she is still complicit in terrorism and she did kill American Debbie. Still an enjoyable storyline.

I couldn't agree more. Curtis has shown some signs of being cool. He did nail Marianne (who I am pretty sure is dead now, eh?), and he did stand up to Erin about the torture of Richard Heller. Judging by the Secretary's reaction to Richard being subjected to SDT, let alone needles, that was probably a good call. Unfortunately, he is still wrapped up in several layers of lameness, stemming from the fact that Marianne played him, and, well, just being Curtis in general. He just doesn't seem to have much charisma. Maybe he needs a soul patch.

Sarah hasn't done much, either, but I am sure that her reaction to the torture, whatever it may be, will open up some opportunities for conflict. She basically went from Erin's lap dog to her bitch (now that is a fuckin' clever pun) in a nanosecond. She has to come back somewhat pissed off. It's strange, already we have had two people tortured for no reason.

I concur with the majority, Edgar pretty much rules ass. He doesn't have to worry about being Marianne's bitch anymore, and he was VERY stand-up when it came to Sarah. "Mith Drithcoll, Tharah ith not your mole." That guy is cool. :)

Yeah, I liked how it morphed into a BUILT FORD TOUGH commercial, as they did a little off-roading to get to the chopper in time.

They should roll Sarah back out to her workstation before she wakes up and everyone can pretend that the arrest and torture never happened, and tell her she just fell asleep at her panel. Or "feww athweep" in Edgar's case.

I would have liked another episode set at Tony's place. He was probably all ready to watch Judge Hatchett once the game was over. At least he got to see The Price earlier in the day before Jack called him up, because he would have been right to be pissed if he'd been called away and ended up missing an episode with Plinko, Cliff Hangers or Hole in One (Or Two!). More time at Tony's could have had more awesome fighting with Tony and his special lady friend and he could have yelled stuff like "You know what, let her go to work, Jack! Those Grand Slams ain't gonna serve themselves!"

Tony should have had a van with some kind of desert landscape with a howling coyote on the sides. They could have painted it black and thrown on the red stripe to make it an A-Team van so later in the day they could pick up Chloe and Lukas Haas at the hospital and rolled around LA as an independent mobile ass-kicking unit to stop Imhotep from finding the Book of the Dead.

So, over the course of several years of show time, we've seen numerous nameless guards, Teri 24, Jamey, Nina, Syed Ali, Headless Goren, Darlene Conner, Jack's mountian man beard, Phone Company Guy #1 and the Eddie Grant Electric Avenue Gang all buy it on CTU premises and CTU headquarters itself was blown up at one point. But the Cubs Mug survived it all and continues to faithfully serve Tony. I hope Palmer pardoned it, too.

Great post. Don't forget Stephen Saunders, too. Also, for the life of me, I can't figure out who the Eddie Grant Electric Avenue Gang is...could someone remind me?

They were the crew who blew up CTU during Day 2 to dismantle the U.S.'s resources in stopping the nuke (though did they know that was the reason?).

However, they did not meet their end at CTU. Jack took them down on the roadside a safe distance away from CTU. Love that name though.

Eddie Grant was the guy in Day 2 (George Mason Day) who worked for Wald, part of the evil militia-type group that blew up CTU early in the day. The gang that Jack awesomely infiltrated by carrying around the severed head of a pedophile in a bowling ball bag for a few hours. I thought Jack killed him and his two thugs in the parking lot at CTU, but I think Shh is right, actually. Damn. I wanted to pad out the list so I could stick 24's beard in the middle.

There was, of course, another member of Grant's gang - Dave, the paranoid computer/bomb guy - who survived by getting the shit kicked out of him before he could go with them on the CTU attack, and we can only assume that Dave is still crippled on the ground back at Eddie's hideout where Jack left way back then. Just like my man Ronnie's body is probably still in the train station parking lot this season.

I totally forgot about Saunders!

Shhh, Dr...

Thanks very much. I, too, love the name. It takes me back to that awesome tune and a man with dreadlocks larger than he singing away on his couch about the fabled...Electric Avenue.

I loved it when Audrey said something along the lines of, "So, he saves her life, and she repays him by leaving him?" If she does go back to Paul at the end of the season, then that will be total foreshadowing. :)
