Any chance of a "comics" forum popping up? I've noticed several threads discussing these thingies, over in "Random". It's not just the same 3 or 4 guys, either. With a separate forum, "Random" wouldn't be hi-jacked by comic threads.
Not to brown-nose too much, but there seems to be a higher quality of sorts on this message board. Alot of comic boards are full of...well, trash. I think a "comics" forum around here would be full of quality stuff. Not the typical "who would win in a fight: Wolverine or Optimus Prime" crap.
But I could see two problems with it. First, alot of movie releases might pop-up under "comics", making it difficult to moderate, while sapping away from "Movies &TV". Second, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the Zims don't seem like comic nuts. They might not be too thrilled about dedicating an exclusive forum to the topic. That'd also make moderating difficult.
//edit: I go to ComiCon almost every year, and I've spent enough time around comic people to know that I don't want to attract any more of them here than are already here.
(edited by Guru Zim on 22.11.04 1249) Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

I just can't stand the people that read them.

Of course, you didn't go the year that I was there and we went to the Murph, did you?

Heh. No problem, then. A few new forums popped up during the recent re-organization, so I felt somewhat justified in asking.
Yeah, it could be a whole new can of infectious worms. New posters might arrive, not familiar with the vibe of this place... then proceed to flood the boards with their fan fiction, bad art and "who would in a fight" junk. The less of that, the better.

Ironically, this is how I feel about wrestling fans.
Interestingly enough, I don't disagree with you.
I suppose I should be more clear. I don't mind individual comics readers (Hi Honey! Be home soon, promise) but as a whole, they are not what I want here at the forum.
If we didn't already have a select group of wrestling fans, I'd probably make the same generalization about them. We are lucky that CRZ attracted a certain type of fan, so the wrestling forum is fairly safe.
We won't have that kind of luck with a comics forum.
I may put a books/magazine/comics/manga forum in place in the future, but I have to tell you, I don't particularly want this place to be a haven for comic book stuff. Surely there are other communities that are interested in this?
I just don't want to put the effort out moderating something that I have very little interest in. That's also why there isn't a seperate Nascar forum.
//edit: I should also add, since you are new here, that this board was originally the message board for a wrestling site - slashwrestling.com. Had it not been, we probably wouldn't still have a wrestling section at this time. Slashwrestling.com went dark in October of 2002. The importance of wrestling at this site has slowly diminished.

Frequenting several comic sites... I can see why people who frequent here don't really want to post on comic forums. Many of the regulars there are, well... pretty annoying folks. Moreso than usual.
If this plug is deemed inappropriate, I apologize, but judging by CRZ's reaction to the suggestion of a comic forum, I guess he might not care about me steering people who want to talk about that somewhere else. My own site is BASICALLY a comic book site, and the forums, while nowhere near as busy as the W (not even close), aren't yet cluttered with your typical comic site patrons - I'll link right to the comics forum - http://www.stillontheshelf.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=22 . Might be a good alternative for you.
Just an option... I like talking about comics, but I come HERE to talk about other things. Feels too repetitive going over it all again here...

Oh, there are lots of places, which is why I doubt this board would attract new people so much as it would introduce a new topic for the existing users. I would assume the Politics board is just the same old wrestling fans talking about politics instead of wrestling, for example.
That said, I have no interest in a comics board here, because this is the last place I'd go for comics discussion. (Actually, I just noticed my favorite comics board has a wrestling section, and I've never ever wanted to go there either.) I don't care if you guys make a comics forum or not, but for a minute it sounded like the reason was "We don't want any NERDS on our cool boards," which would be ridiculous given that wrestling fans and guys who talk about sports on message boards aren't much higher on the social ladder.
But you didn't mean it like that, so my bad.

You have no way of knowing, but I've been lurking on the board since Slash went dark, and visited Slash even further back. So you seem to think I'm astonished by the disproportionately high amount of wrestling talk, when in fact that's the only reason I've ever come here.
While I frequent any number of comics boards, I think it's cool to know that people who you "know" online share some of your interests not related to "the main focus of the board."
And while there are fair number of people that cross-pollinate here and the DVDVR board, I can think of only a handful that I "see" in ohter places I go online.
That said, I understand your hesitancy toward wanting to attract "the great unwashed." Going to cons to me is more of a business thing now, and not a fan thing, so seeing all the "more extreme" people there make me cringe.
