What a crappy way to start the morning. Not that I ever got to actually listen to him in the U.S. much beyond Peel Sessions, but you know, his influence was immeasurable and all that.
(BBC NEWS) Veteran BBC broadcaster John Peel has died at the age of 65, while on holiday in Peru.
Peel, whose radio career spanned 40 years, was on a working holiday in the city of Cuzco with his wife Sheila when he suffered a heart attack. ...
After announcing Peel's death on Radio 1, the station played his favourite song, "Teenage Kicks", by The Undertones.
Sad new indeed. The local college radio station (kcpr) has been playing stuff from various "Peel Sessions" CD's all day. Lots of great bands played live for him and there are quite a few of those CD's out there. I definitely recommend them.
It's a damn shame, as the man was a great force. I used to listen to his show all the time (I'm from the UK) and he played some amazing music and got me into more bands than I care to mention.
