The New York Post (motto: We occasionally print in English) reported today that ESPN decided not to renew their contract with Mel Kiper, Draft Expert.

This apparently was news to Mel, who thought they were still negotiating.

According to Andy Polley, on the Sports Reporters today, Mel said they were still talking and he hoped that a deal could still get done.

- Would the draft really be the same without Mel?

I don't get this at all- Mel is the voice, and face (and hair) of the draft. Why would they do this?

I guess they'll have to promote Corey Chavous to the main desk for his draft analysis.

Well, as long as they dont have more Beano Cook, I am cool with Kiper being gone.

But, then who will the Colts GMS fight with?

The Baltimore Sun reported this morning that negotiations are ongoing and Kiper(Baltimore's own) fully expects to be back with ESPN soon...

I think the Four Letter leaked the story as a negotiating tactic.

I mean, people disappear once they leave the network, even if it's for "bigger gigs" (Kilborn, Eisen, KO).

DisnESPN simply cannot do this to us drafniks. It's bad enough that Louisville lost it's DisnESPN radio affiliate and I don't get to hear him on College Football saturdays anymore.

There is *NO ONE* who can cover the draft like Mel.

See, if it was me, I'd say *ANY ONE* can cover the draft like Mel.

Personally, I think Mel is one of the most overrated figures in all of sports journalism. I'd be really, really happy if I never had to see his pompous and perfect coif on my TV ever again. Of course, that's just my opinion and allegedly rational and informed people may disagree.

This is the newspaper that said that Dick "Charismaless" Gephardt was going to be John Kerry's VP. Translation: I wouldn't believe a Post exclusive even if I had been smoking with Ricky Williams for a few hours. ;)
