Entirely unimportant in the overall scheme of things, but with the server now residing in Florida, shouldn't I only be 1 hour from the server? Or don't you plan on dealing with that?

This midwestern "summer" has been an absolute blast. I'm loving the fact that my burning bush is starting to change color and my wife's blue boy roses are preparing for winter. It's been an amazing blessing to my wallet because we haven't had our AC on much at all. If this is global warming in Southwest Michigan, give me more of it.

My theory is that if I can buy a house and pay it off, that I can deal with a little snow. Real estate is so overpriced here right now that I could just about do that if I got out of my place at the market price.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

No. Rent the rest of your life if you have to. Leaving SoCal for the Midwest is foolishness. Go get a place in the deep south or something. But you don't want to deal with a foot of snow in the driveway of the home you own. I don't know why the hell any of us who were born here stay here. Hell, I don't know what DuSable was thinking when he stopped here and said "the weather stinks and it smells of onions. We are HOME!"

OR, you could come up to the Great Northwest (TM). Mrs. JJD and I bought a nice little 3 bdr/2.5 bath house about a year ago in a new subdivision that's going to end up with about 1000 houses in it (or more), and people are already selling their houses for $10K more than what we paid (and we're out in the damn boonies, too).
No lie. The prices here in Pierce County are SOARING. There was an article in the paper about a month ago about it and a guy who has a house in North Tacoma that he listed at $215k. It's become common now for buyers to include escalator clauses in their offers, and by the time the prosepective buyers beat each other to death THIS guy closed his house (LISTED at $215K, which I bet he thought "I hope I can get this") at $252k!
Plus, if you REALLY want snow, there are mountains 45 minutes away for that sort of nonsense.
EDIT: It occurred to me after the fact that I should mention that the guy's $215k turned $252k house was hardly a manse or anything. I think it was an older 4-bedroom home in North Tacoma (which is what really drove the price up).

Why not try South Georgia? Atlanta is over-priced, but you could live 30 minutes from Macon or Valdosta and get a really nice 2000+ sq ft. home for $75,000-$150,000 depending on the neighborhood....

Stop encouraging him to move I have two more years of school, and I'm starting to really like it here. I wish there was a bit more weather... but we don't have to visit people all that often here. Everyone comes to us.
