Oho! The Happy Days connections don't end there! Eddie Mekka (Carmine Raguso the tough-guy singer-dancer from Laverne and Shirley) was ALSO in Blansky's Beauties as Joey DeLuca, tough-guy singer-dancer. Aha!

While I have noted and do applaud the hate being directed at "Laverne and Shirley" and "Charles in Charge", I'm stunned that no one has named the toilet from which both sprang: "Happy Days". That show was just painful to watch. Not only was it an unfunny sitcom, but it was a musical. "Musical" trumps any point anyone can raise as they nominate any other show. C'mon, I can't be alone here.

Edit: Guess maybe I shouldn't have skimmed so quickly over all the posts. Oops.

Great catch with Joey DeLuca/Carmine Raguso. It's one thing for writers to recycle ideas and characters, but this was out and out cutting and pasting from one show to the other. Anyway, a couple more on-screen "Happy Days" connections (though not as blatant as the previously mentioned Pat Morita and Eddie Mekka characters): Bambi and Sunshine were two of the showgirls who worked at the Oasis and also lived in the same apartment complex as Nancy and her two nephews, the above mentioned Joey DeLuca and Anthony DeLuca, a leering twelve year old who was always trying to make time with Bambi. Sunshine was played by Lynda Goodfriend, aka Lori Beth, Richie's girlfriend (and then wife) on "Happy Days" while Joey DeLuca was played by none other than Chachi himself, Scott Baio.

Having just remembered it now, and god knows WHY....

It was OKAY for a sitcom until they found the key one night to bringing in about 10 trillion viewers and then proceeded to shove said key down our throats....

Oh yes...... I'm talking about Ellen.

A show not half-bad at the beginning became The Show About A Lesbian. Every other joke was "I'M A LESBIAN - LOL!"

The ratings hit the crapper faster than someone who's had far too much bran.

Anybody used to watch WCW Monday Nitro? This one gets my vote. Especially towards the end of it's run, it had everything: bad writing, bad storylines, bad acting. Just plain bad.

Some of you people have no souls. First off some of these shows weren't supposed to be good. Saved By The Bell was practically an inside joke, or at least it was to me. It kept you wondering things like, why don't they portray Lisa as attractive when she blows Jesse out of the water? Well, we know why, but I digress.

Family Matters was another one. First of all it featured something I never thought I'd see: the Bushwhackers working as heels. It also featured a hilarious Eastern European car with a door for a front end. And death to those who don't think Jaleel White is a genius of physical comedy. He could trip on anything and knock anything over, usually both and quite convincingly.

Hooray to whoever said Mama's Family. I can't think of anything worse humankind has ever ever produced. I haven't seen Growing Pains on here, which was just Family Ties without the charismatic cast. Just Shoot Me was just AIDS on tape, it was so bad. Why David Spade couldn't have died instead of Farley I'll never know. Well, besides not being on heroin. MASH was painfully unfunny, and then tried to be prophetic at the same time. Alan Alda seems like a used car salesman, not someone I want to spend hours watching.

I also hate any show where the crowd howls at an attractive woman like horny construction workers. Grow some class.

I'm going to add Harry and the Hendersons, since the "long-running" rule got dropped many posts ago.

But Full House about takes it followed by the Cosby Show. Yes, for cultural/political significance it was a great step forward (or would have been if they didn't all act like they were white), but still. Bill Cosby was to the 80's what Tim Allen was to the 90's, a guy bleeding a gimmick dry. He wasn't really funny, he was just Cosby. The show was sweet and sugary despite it's realistic beginnings (Theo, that's the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard) and eventually was little more than an excuse to put Bill Cosby with a cute child so everyone could say how cute the whole thing was, and then there would be a pointless dance routine or jazz perforance loosely connected to the plot through Cliff's father, who's best work was as the voice of Panthro on Thundercats, IMO. If anything doesn't hold up, it's this.

The Cosby show was really bad. I don't think it's so much that they were too white though. They were too bland is more accurate. I am talking Full House level of blandness here.
How about Boston Public that show was terrible. Oh wait it wasn't a comedy then it was even worse.

Punky Brewster was terrible.. but I can't give you an accurate count of seasons, since it became a cartoon.

How long did Brady Bunch run? Man, I hated that show. When I was a wee lad, it used to come on at 4pm after the daily afternoon cartoons. I could never sit though Brady Bunch.

Yeah, I agree with ya about One Day at a Time.. everytime I see a football game with Dave Wannstedt, I think of Schneider. Is the guy that played Schneider still alive? If so, they should track him down to play Comedian/Eddie Blake for the long rumored "Watchmen" movie.

Oh..and because suckas gots ta' know, I was leafing through Best Buy's flyer last Sunday and saw that "Who's the Boss" has been released on DVD.

Who's the Boss Marathon stars on Nick@Nite Monday night at 9. I think it's a week long marathon, so you get to see Alyssa Milano grow up. And you get the count the number of times that they repeat plotlines (Tony: "But you're still my little girl" Samantha: "You have to let go, Dad" Repeat dozens of times.)

What about Sports Night, the comedy that was too funny to be good. Why Comedy Central picked that up and showed it I have no idea. We're talking baby kicking terrible here.

Lisa: They used it to settle fights at taverns

Good Times was AWESOME up until James died and they brought in Janet Jackson to ruin the show. The humor holds up today, and if you look at it like the show ended in the episode when James was offed, then it's up there with some of the best ever, particularly for Florida's "damn Damn DAAAAAAAAAAAMN!" at the end.

As for the topic, Eight is Enough. Just the Ten of Us. I also always hated M*A*S*H, but I believe this may be because Fox Chicago aired WWF Superstars, and since I didn't pay attention to time when I was a kid, I knew it was over when the M*A*S*H theme started, which always made me mad.

And if formulaic repetitiveness is a big factor, then why has no one mentioned I Love Lucy?

Damn, the coincidences just keep on comin'...yours truly was hired a couple of years back to shoot video of Southern Maine's baseball team competing in the NCAA D-3 World Series in Grand Chute, WI (about 30 min. south of Green Bay, in the Mariners' single-A affiliate's stadium.)

Are you serious? That show was great when I was like 13 to about 17...You had 3 good looking women (Somers in her MILF stage, Christina Lakin (Al) turned into a major hottie by the end of the show, and ditzy older sister (not the chick from My 3 Dads) was a cutie and a half), you had Cody (Sasha Mitchell) who was great b/c he was so ridiculously stupid (and then finding out he was some sort of a karate badass made it all the better), the nerdy kid was great too...it was so ridiculous that it was good if you ask me

I wish Nick @ Nite would pick up "Out of this World", "Small Wonder" and "My Secret Identity (or the launching pad of Jerry O'Connell's career)" and show them for like 3 months back to back like they did on TBS like 13 years ago...I had the biggest crush on Maureen Flanagan back when I was like 12, and it was pretty sweet to see her in that B-Movie with Scott Wolf getting naked

I agree. It's on ABC Family at 2 PM everyday, and now that my summer job is simply to sit in an office and make sure that the building doesn't burn down, while occasionally taking deliveries and pointing people to the bathroom, it's part of my daily TV viewing.

It's good cheese, and has occasionally funny moments. And the other hot sister was Karen, the brunette.
