CRZ or Guru--
Is there a way that the board could be tweaked so that when you (1)edit your posts or
(2) quote another poster without copy/pasting
that the HTML is not suddenly made visible?
Are the block commands [ ] an answer for this or does it include not allowing any HTML as Guru alluded to earlier?
For an HTML amatuer like myself, seeing all that code is sometimes overwhelming (not to admit a little confusing). I know enough now to NOT delete some tag that will kill a thread, but I'm always wary (typing on eggshells).
Or maybe I should just study Mrs. DrOp's HTML book? =)
I only know that I can change; everything else just stays the same.

I'm sure there's a WAY, but it's no quickly apparent to me. I'll have to talk with Guru and see if there's something we can do to give you "help" as to which tags are "must keep."
The short version is to always make sure that the "table" and "td" tags have a matching "/td" and "/table" at the end - that's the one that bites us.
I *do* have a clever idea, but I don't know if we can incorporate it into the code. Ah, Guru's just on AIM, I'll go bother him now.
It's a real bitch to make the "Originally posted by" code thing come up with the name of the person who you are quoting. You wouldn't think so, but it is. Chris and I spent about 3 hours the other day (maybe he spent longer, I dunno) trying to make the [quote ] tag work the same way.
The problem is that the same thing that stopped us from being able to do it in [quote ] might stop us from getting it to work with a substitution. After talking with Chris, his idea was to put 3 different [dontdelete] type tags in there... which we can probably do.
I'll either mess around with it later today when things slow down, or CRZ will play with it tonight. I had a server crash this morning so I'm in early cleaning up after that mess. (stupid MS*SQL)
Surprisingly (mostly to me), that all made sense to me! =)
Thanks, guys. I was just thinking that there were probably others like me (or even less knowledgeable/ knowingly careful than I am) that might be confused and unwittingly destroying threads all over Weinerville.
And I'm you guys probably didn't think "fixing every third post because Poster X ruined the thread" was going to be part of your more "hands-on" admin approach...
=)

Anyway, Drop, I tried my "new" quoting technique on the message board. Just don't delete the three "quote" tags in brackets and you should be okay....unless, of course, you're doing something messy like nesting quotes withing quotes and ohhhh myyy
