The look on Muckler's face in game 7 was a dead giveaway that this would happen. I woulnd't count on Lalime being around much longer, either. It seems like the new owner of the Sens wants results, eh?

Martin is a great coach but he's probably not the best fit to take Ottawa to the next level. He won't be out of work long and he'll do really well with his next team.

I don't blame Martin too much because the coach can only do so much. Everyone and their mother knew Ottawa needed more grit and Muckler got Peter Bondra. Everyone knew Ottawa needed some insurance in net and Muckler did nothing. They could've at least gone after a veteran backup.

Lalime needs to get out of town too for his own sake. He needs a clean slate so he can get back to playing his game and not worrying about being the goat in Ottawa. He's a really good goalie but it was clear by those two goals that he's got major confidence issues.

I heard the Phoenix Coyotes and St. Louis Blues were VERY interested in him anyway.

Having met Martin once, it's too bad, because he's a nice guy and all, but the franchise needs a different direction. Plus, as fuelinjected said anyway, he won't have a problem finding a new place to work.

St Louis has a coach under contract for next season. THey dont need another coach, they need a rebuilding.

I realize they go through coaches like I go through a 12-pack of soda, but could he go to the Devils perhaps, who need a coach all of the sudden?

The St. Louis one was some rumour I heard from a co-worker, so I stand corrected. The Phoenix one I keep hearing though...

At some point though, somebody has to take the fall for never getting the Sens to the Finals. And Martin was that guy...

Agree with Grimis. He has had many many chances, and just could never get a good team over the hump...

Who would be good in Ottawa now???

Martin will get another job if he wants one...

I agree that he would look good behind the Florida bench. No way he could complain about his goalie there.

Besides, what harm is there in having one more French-Canadian in Broward County? :-P

Unfortunate, cause it certainly wasn't his Martin's fault Lalime decided to start really sucking in Game 7.

Martin was named coach of the Sens when I first moved to Ottawa, so he's really the only coach of the team I have known. Plus, he was the coach of the Algonquin College men's hockey team just before I started going there.

And I agree with MARTYEWR...he was a super nice guy the time I got to meet him.

Having packed his groceries when I was a youngster I can tell ya he tips well....

It's bitter sweet to see him go. A great "X and O's" guy, but shows no emotion. Sometimes change is what's needed to get where they are going....and hopefully Ottawa can find someone as capable or better to replace him.

He needs to get into the Western Conference to escape the Leafs or else he'll end up in an institution.

Or, even better, he could coach the Leafs. MLSE won't fire Dinosaur Quinn, unfortunately, but it's a nice pipe dream.

Agree totally with this statement. Seems like a great X & O's guys, but his pressence never impressed me. After they lost Game 2 & 3(at home). He seemed so calm giving the old "bounces didn't go our way" speech... I thought geez dude make bounces go your way, don't sit back and chat about playing a good game but "what can you do" attitude. Maybe I'm just used to see bitter old hardass Pat Quinn saying how his team was "d*cking around" like he did yesterday that seeing such a laid back coach seems strange.

Jacques Martin is a good coach depending on what your goal is. I'll bet he could do great things in Phoenix, because relative expectations are much lower. Get a competitive team that can win a round in the playoffs and Coyote fans would be happy. Sens fans want a Cup and they want it now. Martin took that team as far as he was going to last year, so while this firing doesn't mean that Martin is a bad coach he's not the guy that's going to win now in Ottawa with that team.

Alfredsson should be next on the way out, though. I'd be willing to led Lalime slide for now if I'm a Sens fan, because he was quite strong in the playoffs the last couple of years. It could just be that he had a bad season. Alfredsson, though, is consistently useless in the playoffs. He's not much of a captain, he can't score when it counts, he plays no defense, and from watching that series it looked like the Leafs are in his head most of all. Guys like Hossan, Havlat, Redden, and Chara are solid, but the Alfredssons and Radek Bonks of the world need to be shown the door. They will never win in Ottawa as long as the Toronto Maple Leafs are lined up at the other side of centre.

I agree almost 100% with what you are saying, BVM, but what happened to Redden against the Leafs? He was mostly invisible. Some games I wasn't even sure if he was playing.

I'm planning on checking out some Vancouver Giants games this year for sure. The beer is cheap and the crowds are loud. I encourage anyone to go check out their local junior or minor team(s) because you'll have a great time.
