I'll be curious to hear the commentary from JR during the Goldberg/Lesner match. If there's a lot of the inside comments (like the sarcastic comments about RVD never complaining about anything), then I'd expect it's legit. If this were a setup, I'd expect we'd have seen hints of it on TV by now (assuming they don't insert something into Smackdown).

Come to think of it, hearing Tazz and Cole's commentary tomorrow night may provide some insight too.

This screams to me of a swerve to get people wondering about who will win mania, since it seemed to be a given that it would be Brock. On the otherhand, maybe the WWE and The Chicago Bears could work out a trade, Brian Urlacher for Brock Lesnar.

Smells a lot like the time Austin walked out and took his ball home. The guy was burnt out and needed break. He got one. He came back. Lesnar knows he's got the choice of being a longtime drawing power and top man in wrestling, or the poor man's Brian Bosworth in football. I'll put myself in the swerve camp for now.

I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on this one. Now, I could be wrong, but this just doesn't seem to add up to me. You've got a big money, top-card guy like Lesnar, who's built up like nobody's business, and he all of a sudden quits. No rumors about his unhappiness, no big problem to instigate it, he just quits. And the company that dumped so much time and effort into him just lets him. Doesn't sound right to me.

Brock is such a great athlete that it wouldn't shock me at all if he walked onto a NFL team, though probably not as a starter.

However, even Angle tried out for the Steelers and got cut. Brock is such a huge athletic guy that I think he'd get a better shot than Angle though.

If this were a swerve it would mean WWE actually admitting they give a shit about the IWC, which I'm pretty sure ain't gonna happen. The only thing they possibly have to gain from this is a few late buys from smart fans curious about the 'Berg/Lesnar match, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't go this far just for that. Remember that most casual fans wouldn't know about 'Berg's departure-and even if they'd figured out that was the way the wind was blowing, they still wouldn't know about Brock's resignation.

So I'm saying no swerve. but the weekend TV will be the real telling point.

What? He bought a private plane because he was so upset about the travel schedule and there've been things about his attitude and everyone thinking he's a primadonna for a long time now. This is really weird, to be sure, but it really isn't exactly like it's out of nowhere.

Man, this sucks. This is going to leave a huge hole at the top of SD. Football? Whaaa?

Hopefully, he just takes a bunch of time off to heal up any injuries, clear his mind, relax, & recharge his batteries, then come back when he's ready. He's a big asset to the company, and I'd hate to see him gone forever. He's gotten so good at such a young age. If he were to stay healthy & not get burned out, he's got the potential to be one of the all-time great workers, and certainly one of the best big men ever.

Hopefully Vince doesn't humiliate him on the way out, which would definitely sour Lesnar on ever returning to the company. Treat him well, leave the door open for a future return.

This certainly is depressing news.

Whom do they replace him with? Do Rhyno and/or A-Train get bumped up the card?

What kind of logic is that? This sally up and quits on everyone and Vince isn't supposed to make him look bad for it because he's good? I don't see what on earth Vince McMahon or anyone else owes Brock Lesnar right now.

I smell work, but I've thought that since the first rumors.
However, addressing some of the NFL issues.

1) I don't think he'd be in the draft, as his graduating class already has come and gone. He'd be unrestricted, but its doubtful he'd get anything above minimum non-guaranteed, as only an idiotic team would give him a signing bonus with no experience and screw up their cap. Or, the Cardinals will give him 10 million. Same thing.

2) Someone should tell Brock if he's going to the NFL they actually have real steroid testing, not Vince steroid testing. Might make a slight difference.

3) Isn't it supposed to be football players going to wrestling, not the other way around?

4) If he's a prima-donna now bitching about his schedule etc., how is he going to feel when a team keeps him maybe on their practice squad and sends him to play in NFL Europe because he's not talented enough to make the league. Actually, I doubt he could make a practice squad, and would probably get his ass kicked a few times in training camp fights by guys trying to make the team or by veterans who think he needs to be taught a lesson.

Latest news out of Hollywood is that Sid Eudy was offered the role of Jesus in The Passion. Unfortunately, that fell through due to Sid's continued insistence that he be crucified under the title: King of the Squirrels.

It's real. Things like this do happen in wrestling, more frequently than us "smarts" would like to admit, and WWE is not going way out of its way to impress us. LYING to the locker room? The rumors are that most of the locker room seems to hate Brock. So, they lie about him leaving, then Brock sticks around? Great morale booster.

It's times like this that I think the IWC can be too self-conscious. Granted, many things have been done to swerve us in the past, but at this level, you have to wonder what the point would be.

Even now, knowing that Brock is leaving, he is still the favorite to win (he's the WWE-bred superstar). Not only that, but in a match where there are no belts on the line, it's not the clear main event (The Triple Threat is most likely), so this match can't be that important to mess with.

Goldberg hasn't been on TV for weeks, which makes people think Lesnar is an easy pick, but the people who don't follow the rumors on the 'Net probably think Goldberg is the favorite since guys who are off TV usually win their "return" matches.

Also, the timing for something like this is a little too much. Yes, it adds doubt at the very last second to pressure a sale out of us, but there will be no indications of Lesnar leaving on SMACKDOWN! for us to really think he'll leave.

When Austin walked, if that was a work, it was much more self-destructive to WWE than it was helpful. Austin came back a changed man, a broken man, and ended up a Company Man. Vince lost one of his top stars at a very key point where he may have needed him (since the nWo wasn't working out), and that hurt.

But, isn't that exactly why Lesnar is leaving? He's 26 and has done EVERYTHING. What new doors does he have to smash through? What's there left for him to do? He's feuded with the Undertaker, what, THREE times already? And they want him to do a fourth? He's going in circles. He may not see the longterm upside here.

Well, if true, I was way, way off. I still find it hard to believe. Leaving for the NFL? He was a NCAA champion....wrestler. Was he a high school star of any sort? If so, why did he wrestle at Minnesota, instead of pursing a possibly much more profitable future in football? What is he 27 or 28? When is the last time the guy played football? There are lots of big guys (Brocks size) who played in college and high school who won't be drafted by the NFL. Who is even going to give this guy a tryout? Do large non-football players just have to put their name out there? It makes no sense. Maybe it is just an excuse. This is just really confusing.

Because if there's one guy that the NFL will want to cross-promote with, it's Vincent K. "XFL" McMahon.

He's a big name with an established WWE character that could step back into a prominant spot and be accepted by the fans.

It's not all that different from Rock's situation. He's pretty much a full-time actor now. Sure, the WWE/Vince gets a producer credit (or something to that effect) from his movies, but he's pretty much packed in his wrestling career, save for special appearances & short term runs.

I just don't think it'd be wise to completely shut the door to a guy that could conceivably help you down the line. If he's guaranteed to never return, I could see doing it (I wouldn't like it since I'm a fan of his). But as long as the chance is there for him to come back refreshed & ready to go, keep it amicable.

Well, them burying him isn't going to stop them from working together again, since fences can be mended on both sides if there's a possibility of making money.

He's walking out on the company while they have plans for him. They weren't too amicable when Austin did it.

I just hope if Brock does go to the NFL and makes it he plays some sort of offensive position, so that Ray Lewis can punk his ass out. Or stab him, whatever.
