Since when did they become displayed on every post? I'm not saying I'm the most credible person around, but Christ, some yahoo ranks me a 3 and now everyone says, "Haha, that guy is a 3 he must suck ass so I shall skip his comment.". When in reality I might have posted something worthy that someone might not expect from someone ranked a 3, but because he saw I was a 3 he missed a chance to possibly change his life forever all because of some freakin' goof ball and his 3. You know what I'm saying here CRZ? If everyone votes me a 3 than maybe that will hold more weight, but my dog will still think that I am a 9 and that you will never be able to take away.

At least a week and probably a couple ago. They're he posters rating at the moment they made that post, so by the time you reply to this, it'll be different.
Maybe they're giving you a 3 as a shout out to your avatar over there.
It's been longer than a week. I first started noticing it several weeks ago, and maybe even a month.
I don't pay attention to the rankings, and I'm guessing not many other people do either. Unless someone is completely unintelligible or making outrageous statements, I'll usually at least skim every post in whatever thread I'm in, regardless of each person's ranking.

Here - have an 8

Those are all some very good answers. However, my credibility has been shot to hell, as I'm now one of the lowest ranked Wieners on the board. I go around three months and get one lousy vote that is a 3 which now looks good compared to the 1.8something that I'm now sporting thanks to the nine of you whackjobs that bombed me in the last 12 hours. This has become very disstressing, and I may now have to call my mother to see if at least she still loves me. Jerks.

Originally posted by Big GAnd I gave you an 8 as well.
I'm just checking something here, when Big G quoted SRF4 no rating is displayed. Is it that no one had rated him yet, but had by the time he posted again?
...like that first time you dryhumped your high school girlfriend- sweaty, repulsive, messy. -DEAN~!

That's correct. I now have been rated by two people
EDIT: ambiguous

I gave you a 10 BigG, for being such a swell guy. One of those pay it forward kind of things.
Hmm...maybe if the other person who rated you tells you what they gave you we can figure this thing out. I know it's been done before, but its worth a try.
Yeah, I went to the trouble to figure it out a couple of months ago .... and got a decent result, but it's not right (as I think I had to add some massively tweaked in factor to get it to come out right). I will add, though, that the rankings I ended up with were eerily accurate to the rankings given.
(It's on some thread here, not going to look it up.)
I think the admins of this site might want to consider the history of kuro5hin.org and its comment rating system. At first, comments were rated anonymously (much like users seem to be rated anonymously). It didn't take too long for people to "mod-bomb" others -- give all of one's comments a low rating. This produced a lot of frustration.
Eventually the ratings lost their anonymity, and people became more accountable for their ratings. That didn't fix everything of course, as people could still create a bunch of accounts for the sole purpose of mod-bombing their enemies, without any links to their normal account.
Recently there have been other changes. The one that I think the admins might want to pay the most attention to is that each comment needs to get a minimal number of ratings (six or so) before scores start appearing (it displays "none" for the rating until that threshold is attained). The idea being that a small sample of ratings isn't enough to measure the quality of a comment (or, for this site, a user).
The kuro5hin admins had access to the ratings as well, so in the same sense they were not "anonymous", but for all practical purposes, they were anonymous because the community at large had no idea what was going on. They only knew that some unknown (to them) persons had been targeting their comments, and had feelings of helplessness and frustration, which wasn't good for the community.
Things appear different when you're not an admin (or a member of one of the inevitable mutual appreciation societies whose members give each other high ratings).
My advice is to drop the rating system altogether. It's a dangerous game. K5 has had to revise its system multiple times, and people always found a way to annoy each other.
My question is when you are rated in the 2's or less, such as yours truely, doesn't that put that person on the same playing field as a troll or some other vile message board species? Now 17 of you have made it known that you think that I suck ass. Now should I take the hint and go far far away, or keep plugging away until you do find a warm spot in your cold and dark hearts for me?
