According to the Digital Bits, the DVD for Lord/Rings pt 1 will be out in late summer, probably with a trailer for Two Towers.

It will, get this, be the long version (sheesh) and probably be 2 and maybe 3 discs.

It's possible, in the future, that there will be a DVD released with the entire trilogy wedded together for one big super 9+ hour movie.

I'm scared that friends of mine are already planning the viewing party they hope to have when all 3 movies are out on dvd. Though I gotta admit, I could have sat and watched 6 more hours of that Peter Jackson goodness.

According to the recent Entertainment Weekly, it is already been confirmed that the Fellowship of the Ring DVD will contain 20 - 30 minutes of new footage, and it will most likely be Froddocentric.

There's also supposed to be a second version with a bloodier R-rated cut.

Though after that Lurtz decapitation, I don't know how much more bloody they can get.

I have a feeling this is going to be the kind of movie that gets a LOT of different releases on dvd over the next couple of years. I keep hoping eventually we'll get the "Peter Jackson is a Sick Sick Man" Version, where he releases a box set of all three movies, with each cut extended to about 4.5 hours per movie. That much Tolkien might be more than mortal man could stand.

That's why I try to get DVD's for presents, that way if a better edition comes along I don't feel AS bad about buying a souped-up edition.

Will have to think about the Clerks 10-yr anniversary edition. I've bought it VHS, received the Collector's Ed as a present, but won't be in any big hurry to buy another ed.

Long way of saying, I'll wait until I'm reasonably sure that there are no more possible editions before I buy FOTR. Of course, that depends on the price, and how many times I would feel the need to rent the durn thing.

Guess I'm just a thumbs in the middle guy.

Nine hours? I work at a movie theatre, and after seeing the movie so many damned times, I think I'm going to scream...but a nine hour DVD would be almost as good as Anna Kournikova showing up at my house and...uh... Well, ALMOST as good.

Three weeks of reruns is reasonable for a show. Any longer than that, then there is just cause to complain. It could be a lot worse. You could wait 7 weeks (like for Angel), or 10+ weeks (like for a new episode of Futurama).
