Well, Grant Hill is going to get surgery on his ankle for the 4th time. At this point, the whole situation is getting pretty sad. I really think it's time he hung it up.
In other news, the Magic have traded Mike Miller and some schlub for Drew Gooden. I don't think this was too bright of a deal. WHile Gooden can hit the boards and help on defense, the Magic are down to one player who can score. Now that TMac is all alone he will be double and triple teamed consistently. Garrity and Gooden better step up BIG.
Orlando will be lucky to make the playoffs. Until they get a legit center they are going no where.

It all depends who actually decides to enter the draft. There really isn't any great hype for any of these guys...
Senior-wise
David West Xavier 6'9" F Jason Gardner Arizona 5'10" G Nick Collison Kansas 6'9" F Kirk Hinrich Kansas 6'3" G Troy Bell Boston C. 6'1" G Kyle Korvar Creighton 6'7" F Hollis Price Oklahoma 6'1" G Matt Carroll Notre Dame 6'6" G Keith Bogans Kentucky 6'5" G Reece Gaines Louisville 6'6" G
Also a few underclassmen who could make an impact
Carmelo Anthony Syracuse 6'7" F Mike Sweetney Georgetown 6'8" F TJ Ford Texas 5'10" G Emeka Okefor UConn 6'9" F
There are probably more, but none really jump out at anyone...

From the desk of Swordsman Yen This year is pretty much the Lebron sweepstakes. However, there's Darko Milicic, expected to get drafted 2nd after Lebron. He's a 'footer from Yugoslavia who has the speed and agility of a point guard. I hear that he has a lot of upside, coming from the Yugoslavian basketball system and fairly young (about Lebron's age, I think).

Actually, he's a little younger than Lebron, and that was one of the reasons why the NBA agreed to shift the age for foreign player entering the draft to 18 when the draft occurs rather than 18 on deadline date, as Darko turns 18 between those two dates.
The only military skill provided by the French is demonstrating the methods of surrendering.

They did all that just for him?
It was for a few reasons: 1) It was part of the giveback the NBA gave the Players Association in extending Round 1 of the playoffs from 5 to 7 games, along with allowing veterans of I believe 4 years experience to report a few days later for training camp. 2) If they didn't make the change, in all likelihood the league would have been sued on the amiguity of its policy, and in all likelihood would have lost the case. Thus, a clear policy wihtout having to go into the court system.

What is odd is that Gooden was practically "hand picked" by Jerry West. And West, obviously no dummy, must have a really good reason for giving up on him, especially for for someone like Miller. Hell, I liked Miller, but he wasn't really doing anyone any good not being able to bang the boards or play inside defense.
The Magic usually end up looking like fools and haven't made a good deal since they fell into T-Mac...I was hoping Philly would take that albatross Hill off the Magic's hands, but no dice. He's under the knife (again) and the prospects of having anything worthwhile come out of him are looking grim - which I have always felt they (Magic brass) should have known...getting off an airplane ON CRUTCHES to sign should have set off a few warning bells.
But they still are the best mediocre team in the league - SIX YEARS RUNNING!
Lebron can go elsewhere, I refuse to believe the hype - I would still prefer Duncan to anyone else in the league.
Oh, sorry CRZ...you axed that the other day and then switched topics to duct tape and plastic(don't ask)
As of Sunday, it's back to DeClercq / Kemp, as that little "drug related mis-understanding" is over and done with. Also in the mix are alleged players Burke and Hunter, but neither of them can play dead, so I don't count them.

Flea, Duncan's staying in San Antonio and having wifebeater Kidd as his playmaker next year. The no state income tax policy in Texas offsets that advantage Orlando has. And, I know a team that will gladly take Grant Hill off Orlando's hands. Send him to Boston, and the Magic can get back the man, the myth, the legend to play center: yes, Vin Baker.

Well, Florida also does not have a state income tax, so I don't know if / how that would be a factor. IIRC, Duncan turned down the Magic's offer a couple years ago due to loyalty towards SA and Robinson / the chance to win another championship. Can't fault him for that, but rumor has it the Magic will pursue him again. The bright side to not signing Duncan back then(as well as Hill be a fucking cripple) is it allowed T-Mac to become the Tops of the Pops. That probably wouldn't have happened as quick with Duncan / Hill in the mix.
RE: Boston. I'd trade Hill for Bird's retired number. Same difference.
From the desk of Swordsman Yen The advantage that San Antonio has is the Larry Bird Exception, where they can go over the salary cap to counter the offer of any other team. Orlando's acquisition of Shawn Kemp put them $15 million over the cap for this year, so the only thing they can offer Duncan is the $4 million mid-level exception, hardly even close to what he's worth. The only other teams besides the Spurs that will have serious cash to throw at Duncan are the Clippers and Nuggets, so I would guess Duncan stays put in the Alamo City.

the nuggets consistlenty in the past and now have cut their payroll to get mony available to sign free agents, the problem is nobody wants to play there after the losing stigma is attached to the franchise
If someone gets urinated upon do they get pissed off or pissed on?
I guess i'm the only one who thinks this is a good trade for both sides.
Grizzlies - Gooden was having a good year and will be a good player but they have Gasol at Power Forward, Gooden wasn't doing well at SF, so they can put Battier there. - The one thing they are missing is a shooter, enter Mike Miller. - Jerry West knows what he's doing so it has to be a good trade
Magic - they need an inside presence, so they bring in Gooden - Miller is a better all around player than Garrity and Armstrong, that's for sure, both they can both shoot 3's so they still have their outside threat - Nobody is mentioning Giricek in this trade, he IS averaging 11 points per game, so they are getting two players who average a combine 23 points for one player of 16 points - they are filling two positions in exchange for one - Gooden and Giricek are both rookies, they are only going to get better
Tmac went for 52 last night and didn't even play the 4th quarter. In their first magic game, Giricek scored 15 and Gooden went for 20pts and 10 rebounds. And the Magic beat Chitown. So far so good...or is it?
TMAc has been crying ever since his best friend was traded away. They made a big deal out of this on PTI by comparing it to the MJ/Oakley thing from years back. Now Jordan had legit reasons for wanting Oak to stay. Mostly that he watched Jordan's back and kept him protected. All that Tmac is losing is his stoner buddy. If Tracy needs someone to puff with I'm sure there are 7 more guys on the team that will ablige him.
Here's an exerpt from today's fishwrap-
"I asked T-Mac after the game if he had any more friends," Rivers said, laughing. "If that's what he's going to do every night, we're going to trade 'em all."
I'm sure McGrady will get over it and make some kind of new friends, just give him some time to adjust. I think the thing they should really be worried about is how unhappy he is to not have a lot of help for him. Although this trade does help them I think, it wouldn't hurt to get another star player. It can be pretty frustrating having to carry a team and not get help. Ask Kevin Garnett.
