I used to hate Owen Hart. But now I realize that in retrospect, he was an awesome performer. He falls into the category of all those heels I hated when I was younger, but now I look back and realize they were pretty cool, much like Ted Dibiase, IRS and the old Goldust. Now, here's my question: Why did Owen Hart get so angry when people yelled "Nugget"?

The Owen CHARACTER got mad because basically he was being compared to a piece of feces. Shawn Michaels was the one who coined the phrase -- told him he was like that little nugget that refused to go along with the rest of the crap that got flushed...and no matter how many times you flush, it's still floating there. This was after the mass Hart exodus post-Survivor Series 1997.

Jason Sensation's parody also helped things...

I'm guessing that A) If he showed he hated it, the crowd would keep doing it (see also, Angle, Kurt) and B) would you like being called a little, unflushable piece of shit?

Okay, awesome. Thanks! I was somehow thinking that he was being compared to a lil piece of gold, and that made him all peeved, so I was quite confused.

SerWolfe! I'm shocked and appaled that a Walker such as yourself was unaware of the greatness that is Shawn Michaels [circa 1997]!

Being a native Calgarian, and having grown up on Stampede Wrestling and Owen Hart matches, I always loved the lug. He could carry anything short of Yokozuna to a great match.

Sailor: OK people, you heard the lady. Back into the hold. We'll try Canada.

Awesome! I was hoping that I wasn't the only person in the dark about this. Alright, stay tuned for more intriguing trivia questions from yours truly.

A bit off the subject, but related to the subject...

Prior to his Career Killer/Fat Chick Thriller stage, I believe WCW had Mike Awesome rip off the Nugget gimmick by having him go out, cutting a promo and screaming "I AM NOT A MULLET!" to absolute silence. I don't know if they were paying homage to Owen or if it was just another Russo tactic to see if his WWF work would strike gold in another promotion.

I thought Triple H was the first one to call Owen a nugget, because they had some sort of feud when Owen came back.

I'm pretty sure it was Michaels... IIRC, it was around the time he was popping out of the crowd doing his "Black Hart/sole Survivor" deal, and I could've sworn he was attacking pretty much anyone connected to Shawn.

What Eke is referring to is a house show called "WWE's Biggest Party" in Norfolk. I checked for tickets yesterday and the front rows are already sold out..at least the ones that have 3 seats in a row...
