I know they are not due to be released for two weeks or so, but I think we have a chance for something different this year.
Usually, I find the Oscar films pretty boring or at the least, less interesting and surely less fun than the other films in a given year.
But this year, I think we get Black Panther and I think we get Bohemian Rhapsody - two of my favorite pics of the year
I think Star is Born - but I wasn't a fan, same for A Quiet Place.
What about BlacKkKlansman?? what a strange film - but Spike Lee often gets nominated
Boring films that may be nominated: Eigth Grade. (I turned it off). First Man (melodramatic). First Reformed (the same)
The winner will be Vice though
My favorite movie, The Mule, will not be nominated.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.
That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse deserves the treatment Up and the Toy Storys got (Best picture nom). I feel it is also a lock for best animated (though who knows what the academy thinks)
Lisa: Poor predicatble Bart, always picks rock Bart: Good ole rock, nothing beats that
This was the year they almost had the Best Popular Film category, and I think that will influence the nominations. Best Picture was already inflated a few years back to include the blockbusters. Panther will get that slot. A Quiet Place probably.
After Shape of Water won, I feel like any well-produced film can win.

I liked A Star is Born very much; I reckon it gets nominated for Best Picture, Best Lead Actor, and Best Lead Actress. I'd like to see it win at least one of those categories. My guess would be Lead Actress. Lady Gaga was amazing.

I think Glenn Close gets the career-appreciation Best Actress Oscar this year. Long deserved too.

Melissa McCarthy was fantastic in Can You Ever Forgive Me? I am not sure if she will won, but she should get nominated. I thought her performance was better than Lady Gaga. Glenn Close was brilliant in The Wife and will most likely win. Don't overlook Emily Blunt for Mary Poppin's Returns.
If Vice does not win Best Picture I will be shocked. Like Crash winning best picture shocked.
Christian Bale should also be a close lock for Vice but I am a big fan of Ethan Hawke in First Reformed. He was awesome.
EDIT: I just watched Hereditary. Toni Collette was unreal. I'd love to see her win.
