Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Minnesota Vikings running back Onterrio Smith has been notified of a third violation of the league’s substance abuse policy resulting in a year long suspension. Smith will have the opportunity to appeal.
Under terms of the substance abuse policy, a Stage Three member of the substance abuse program can be suspended for one year for either testing positive or failing to comply with his treatment program. Smith already served a four-game suspension last season for a second violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Smith was caught in April at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with a device designed to beat drug tests. As a three time offender of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, Smith would not be permitted to participate in any team activities. He could apply to Commissioner Paul Tagliabue for reinstatement after serving his suspension.
I wonder if this will go to court, sine there is no proof he was using. Unless attempts to conceal or cheat the system counts as failures.
I wonder if it actually has anything to do with The Wizinator that was found.
I remember the spokesperson saying that something like that wouldn't work in an NFL test anyway, because they have to lift their shirt up and pull their pants down to their ankles, which doesn't leave any room to conceal a device like that.
That makes me think that maybe it just happened to be at the same time as when the story came out.

To all the Viking fans out there, where does this leave the RB postion?
Bennett is a china doll and can not be trusted. Williams will most likely continue vulturing the short yardage runs/TDs. Will they let Moore be the featured back or will they give the rookie a try?
You can do it Otto! You can do it Otto!
Make this spare, I'll give you free gelato!
Then back to my place where I will get you blotto!
The Vikings are a poor-man's Denver Broncos. Someone will step up. Moe Williams had 972 yards from scrimmage through 9 games in 2003 when Bennett was hurt.
Bennett will be the guy as long as he's healthy, because he's the fastest. Williams will be the short yardage back. If/when Bennett gets hurt, Williams can easily become the featured back. Otherwise Moore did average 5.8 yards / carry last year.
Someone will step up.

Honestly, I've never been particularily impressed by Smith anyway. He's probably the best all-around back the Vikings have, but he's not particularily fast or elusive or powerful. He's just completely and totally average.
As it is right now, the Vikings are in a fairly good position in terms of a "running back by committee" approach. Bennett (so long as he's healthy) is one of the best speed backs in the NFL. He can't catch or take a tackle for shit, but if you're the Minnesota Vikings, and Michael Bennett is a recieving option with the WR depth you have, you're in trouble. Williams is the short yardage guy, and Moore is the spell back. Then, if nothing else, the Vikings also have Fason (though from what I understand, he will be used as a kick returner alongside Troy Williamson for their rookie years). So, it's not like they're hurting for help at the position.
Tonight I wanna ruin my life, I wanna throw it all away, In a spectacular way
It is not yet known what triggered Smith's latest violation but sources were adamant that it had nothing to do with an April 21 incident in which the Vikings back was stopped at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in possession of a device, "The Original Whizzinator," which is marketed as a way to beat drug tests.
Two team sources said Smith told them he had missed a league-administered drug test, which, according to the NFL guidelines, is tantamount to a positive screening.

Ciatrick Fason ... this guy is a stud. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he were the starter by mid-season (if not earlier) ...

Pardon my sick curiosity, but why the hell is it the Original Whizzinator? Is there a new and improved Cherry version or something? Diet Whizzinator? Longer and faster Whizzinator?
I'll understand if you all just threw up in your mouths reading that...
Presumably the makers of the Original Whizzinator (available at http://www.whizzinator.com/ , although, according to Reuters, the companies that make these products are being subpoenad by the Gov't) want to make sure that people are getiting the genuine original, and not some copy-cat Whizzinator. Other products that do the same thing are "The Wedge" by Health Choice of New York (you hide the wedge between your butt-cheeks), and the "Quick Fix" of Spectrum Labs of Cincinnati ( http://www.urineluck.com/ ).

Can someone please tackle, for my entertainment, how Herschel Walker is responsbile for Adrian Peterson playing for the Vikings today, and how that was a good trade because of this?
