If they have the arena as a 'backup,' then they're going to have some angry fans. The Oilers' arena only seats 20,000 or so.
The old-timers game beforehand seems almost more interesting. Gretzky~~!

In the issues of December 16th, 2000 to November 10th, 2001, we may have given the impression that George W. Bush had been legally and duly elected president of the United States. We now understand that this may have been incorrect, and that the election result is still too close to call. The Economist apologizes for any inconvenience. --- The Economist, 11/17/01
Edmonton in November is not something I would be worried about for hockey weather. If this were Denver or Kansas City you might have something to worry about....
I've surprised they haven't tried this in basketball yet, even though one could say they do by using domes(i.e. Michigan State v Kentucky at Ford Field in December) but can you imagine Duke v UCLA at the Rose Bowl?
"You will never get that TV show. You'll never, ever get the Republican TV show. The Writers Guild of America, my union, is at a minimum, 99 percent leftist liberal and, like me, socialist. And we don't know how to write it. We don't." - Lawrence O'Donnell, former Capitol Hill aide; co-producer/executive story editor/writer for "The West Wing"; and, creator/Executive Producer of "Mister Sterling" on why Republicans and conservatives are "practically invisible" on TV during CNN's "Relibable Sources", 3/25.
The Globetrotters use to play in outdoor stadiums all the time back in the day but I could see basketball players complaining about the breeze throwing off their shots.......come to think f it, it would give Shaq a built in excuse for his free throw problems

ROAD TRIP!!
Welcome to my world. But hell, why couldn't it be Flames/Oilers? It'd be cheaper, and they'd definately sell out faster than Canadiens/Oilers. I guess they just want to have CBC get good ratings.
Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup The Final Four New Jersey Devils vs. Ottawa Senators Minnesota Wild vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks
I think it was Michigan/Michigan State that played in front of over 80,000 outdoors a year or two ago.
What may be even cooler than the actual game will be the legends game of old-school Oilers (lead by Gretzky) against old-school Canadiens (lead by Lafleur.)
You know, if the Maple Leafs were to try something like in SkyDome....they'd sell out the building easily. Torontonians love their hockey. REVENUE~~~!
